C10 Tidy up the History Book

Ye Chen halted.

He fixed his gaze on Zhu Wen, articulating each word deliberately, "First, I saved Miss Qianning not by chance, but through my own capabilities. Second, I've never claimed to be the Little magic doctor. Third, you profess to be a disciple of a renowned doctor, yet your inadequate skills nearly caused harm."

"You fail to introspect, instead opting to ridicule me. Do you even deserve to be called a doctor?"

His words cut through Zhu Wen like a knife.

Zhu Wen's anger flared, "Deserve? Do you think you're unbeatable? Would you dare to test your medical skills against mine?"

Ye Chen replied, "Medical skills aren't meant for competition; they're for saving lives! Reflect on that."

"What's your name? Give me your contact information."

The nanny tried to call Ye Chen back, but he left her with nothing more than a view of his retreating back.

"A doctor like him is the epitome of integrity; he's the real deal."

"Ye Chen sought no reward. He took nothing. He truly set an example."

"But he lacks strength and has a loud voice. Beyond his eloquence, he seems to know nothing else!"

"No, he's all talk!"

Aware of the criticism around him, Zhu Wen felt a wave of shame and discreetly withdrew from the group.

"Congratulations, host, for completing the mission. You've been awarded 5 points of mental energy."

Ye Chen reopened his attribute panel.

Host: Ye Chen

Mental energy: 25 (Average is 10)

Skill extraction: High School Knowledge, Taiji Fist Technique lv 1, Historical Knowledge, Acupuncture, and Ancient Doctor Diagnostic Skills

Special Skills: Reading ten lines at a glance, Reading a hundred lines at a glance

Ye Chen reviewed his skills. His repertoire was limited. With sufficient mental energy, he was confident he could acquire many more.

The following day.

Ye Chen had expected Su Xueqing to take him to the school library, but to his surprise, they arrived at the city library.

Reportedly, this library held one of the largest collections in the nation, boasting hundreds of thousands of volumes and the prestigious title of a national library.

"Ye Chen, these are the historical texts we'll be sorting through today."

Su Xueqing pointed to the two history books before her and explained, "These history books are unique hand-copied editions, riddled with errors and missing many words. Our task is to meticulously read each word, identify the errors, and attempt to restore the lost text to enrich our understanding of history."

Ye Chen nodded in understanding. This was the book organization work Su Xueqing had mentioned.

"Do they have the same task as us? But why do they have so many books?" Ye Chen asked, astonished.

Several people around them were deeply engrossed in their history books, with stacks of more than a dozen volumes in front of them.

"They are history buffs with extensive knowledge in the field. We're just here to seize the opportunity to better ourselves, so naturally, we must work within our limits," Su Xueqing replied.

Ye Chen got the picture.

"Let's get started then!"

"Xueqing, you've arrived."

Just as Ye Chen spoke, a handsome and scholarly man approached.

Su Xueqing gave a slight nod. "Brother Sun, please address me by my full name; I prefer it that way."

"Alright then," Sun Mingyuan said, touching his nose and offering an embarrassed smile.

Despite the awkward moment, he was not deterred from engaging with Su Xueqing. From the moment he first laid eyes on her, her beauty had captivated him. With her ethereal presence and gentle charm, she was the epitome of his ideal woman.

Standing next to Su Xueqing, Ye Chen was also in Sun Mingyuan's line of sight. However, Ye Chen's plain attire seemed to elicit a flicker of scorn from Sun Mingyuan, who promptly disregarded him.

"Su Xueqing, Teacher Tang is visiting today. If there's anything you're unsure about, you can seek his advice," Sun Mingyuan informed her.

"Teacher Tang is coming?" Su Xueqing's eyes sparkled with anticipation.

Teacher Tang, known as Tang Tianshan, was among the most renowned scholars in Jianghai City. With a lofty reputation and a multitude of students, his influence extended throughout Jianghai and across the nation.

Su Xueqing had invited Ye Chen to help with the history books as a means to catch Teacher Tang's eye.

"Ye Chen, make sure to put your best foot forward. Teacher Tang often poses a few questions during his visits. If you can answer them, you might even have a chance to become his disciple," she encouraged.

Ye Chen inquired, "Has anyone been able to answer his questions yet?"

To Ye Chen, earning Tang Tianshan's approval and becoming his disciple was clearly no simple feat.

It was evident that very few could rise to the challenge of answering his question.

Su Xueqing silently shook her head, "Not one."

Ye Chen nodded, unsurprised by the response.

Beside them, Sun Mingyuan's brow furrowed.

He hadn't anticipated the close rapport between Su Xueqing and Ye Chen, with Ye Chen seemingly foolishly aspiring to become Teacher Tang's disciple.

It was common knowledge that among the students tasked with organizing the history books, only a handful were worthy of becoming Tang Tianshan's disciples.

He was the most likely candidate.

Yet here was Ye Chen, not only close to the woman he fancied but also vying for the coveted disciple position.

Sun Mingyuan couldn't help but view Ye Chen as a rival, his demeanor quickly turning icy.

"Su Xueqing, who is this?" he asked.

"He's my classmate, Ye Chen; we're working together on organizing the history books," Su Xueqing explained.

Sun Mingyuan offered a smile. "Ah, so you brought him to broaden his horizons. A student's involvement in such work can greatly expand their knowledge, which is immensely beneficial for future studies."

"You're mistaken," Su Xueqing corrected him, "I brought him here to work."

Work?

Sun Mingyuan's frown deepened.

Organizing and revising history books was not a task for just anyone.

This job required not only extensive historical knowledge but also a solid foundation in writing. Could Ye Chen, a mere high school student, be up to the task?

Sun Mingyuan shook his head dismissively. "Organizing history books isn't a job for just anybody. A small error could misguide the youth and perpetuate incorrect history. Su Xueqing, are you certain he's capable?"

"And if he errs, are you confident you can bear the consequences?"

Sun Mingyuan certainly didn't want any stumbling blocks in his path; he aspired to work alongside Su Xueqing.

Su Xueqing's natural scent was intoxicating. Just a whiff was enough to invigorate Sun Mingyuan and lift his spirits.

He wouldn't let someone who appeared out of the blue spoil his good fortune!

"I have full confidence in Ye Chen's abilities. His academic performance is consistently at the top of his class, making him a truly exceptional student," Su Xueqing added.

Exceptional student?

Isn't everyone here an exceptional student?

Sun Mingyuan was unimpressed.

If Ye Chen intended to keep him away from Su Xueqing, Sun Mingyuan knew he'd have to outmaneuver Ye Chen.

Sun Mingyuan continued dismissively, "Being academically gifted is irrelevant. For science majors like you, history is merely an elective. With your privileged background, you've undoubtedly received comprehensive education, including in history."

"But I doubt he's had the same advantages. His grasp of history probably doesn't even compare to yours!"

It was clear to everyone what Sun Mingyuan was insinuating: he was suggesting that Ye Chen was poor.
