C17 A Huge Compensation
Yan De?
The Yan De from the Four Underground Kings of Jianghai?
Onlookers gasped in recognition.
Yan De's reputation was legendary; parents would even invoke his name to frighten their children into behaving.
Merely mentioning Yan De could turn a child's tears into immediate obedience.
He was the boogeyman of many a childhood.
"Honey, please save me. I'm about to be beaten to death."
Lan rose from the ground, her tone defiant.
"Honey, help me take her down. I have no idea where Ye Chen found this wretched woman, but she hit me."
Yan De's face darkened with fury upon seeing his wife bloodied.
His gaze was piercing, his presence radiating lethal intent.
"Did you hit my woman?"
Yan De's eyes swept the area, landing on Wei Qianning, who stood encircled by bodyguards. His murderous aura was palpable.
"Yes, I did. She insulted my friend and wouldn't apologize. I was merely ensuring she faced the consequences."
"How absurd. My wife can bully whomever she pleases. It's a privilege for your friend to be insulted by her."
"Now, I'm offering you a privilege. Kneel and apologize to my wife this instant, and compensate her with one million yuan, or I'll break your limbs."
Yan De's laugh boomed, his words dripping with conceit.
"Why should I apologize? She wouldn't be in this situation if she hadn't insulted Ye Chen," Wei Qianning retorted indignantly.
"Why? Because I'm stronger and I have more people!"
At Yan De's signal, dozens of men emerged from the nearby Land Rovers, brandishing an assortment of weapons.
"So you're saying that might makes right, and whoever is stronger can bully others at will?" Wei Qianning asked icily.
"Exactly. In Jianghai, there's no one I can't defeat."
"Well, I'm eager to see how you plan to defeat me today."
Wei Qianning stood her ground fearlessly, facing off against the crowd with an unyielding spirit.
"Are you Wei Qianning? The heiress of the Wei family?"
Yan De's brow creased with concern.
The Wei family was a formidable opponent. They might lack underground influence, but their financial resources were vast.
The Wei family had stakes in two bodyguard companies, and it was rumored that they had the support of martial artists. These warriors were not individuals that the average person could approach; they were capable of taking on a hundred adversaries single-handedly. Even he would not dare to confront a martial artist lightly.
"This incident doesn't concern you. Just hand him over, and we won't hold you accountable," he stated.
Yan De had no choice but to back down. After all, Ye Chen was the root of the evil. If he could just kill Ye Chen, his wife's fury would be appeased.
"The ones who struck your wife are under my employ. This issue does involve me. I refuse to surrender Ye Chen. Make your move," she declared.
Wei Qianning quietly activated her phone and sent a text message to her family. Yan De was a desperado, and if a fight broke out, her few bodyguards would be no match for him. For her safety, she required her family's assistance.
"Do you actually want to fight me?" Yan De signaled to his followers with a few discreet glances.
His followers caught on immediately and subtly encircled Ye Chen and the rest.
"I will protect Ye Chen," Wei Qianning resolved.
"Alright, you have the audacity to masquerade as the Wei family's heiress and to mistreat my wife. I will not let this go unpunished. Attack!" Yan De's statement was well thought out.
In truth, he didn't believe Wei Qianning was an impostor; he knew her identity was legitimate. But he needed a justification for his actions, a safeguard for himself. That way, if the Wei family sought retribution, he would have an excuse.
Ye Chen saw Yan De move to attack and positioned himself in front of Wei Qianning.
Suddenly, a dark figure lunged at Ye Chen. Turning, he saw it was a metal rod. A hit to the head would surely injure him.
"Ye Chen, watch out!" exclaimed Wei Qianning, concerned.
Ye Chen smirked. His mental energy was now three times that of an ordinary person, and his boxing skills were formidable. He could easily evade such a basic attack in a myriad of ways.
Ye Chen arched his body, allowing the rod to whoosh by. He swiftly retaliated, his fist crashing into one of Yan De's followers.
The man's bones emitted a series of crisp snaps before shattering.
Ye Chen moved through the crowd, his fists flying.
In under two minutes, all of Yan De's followers were down on the ground, their fates uncertain.
Ye Chen massaged his fist, which appeared to be red and swollen.
He had exerted too much force.
"Ye Chen, you're incredible. Are you a martial artist?" Wei Qianning was utterly astonished as she clung to Ye Chen, her chest brushing against his arm and sending his heart racing.
Ye Chen simply shook his head, remaining silent.
He had come across information about martial artists in books, yet he was unsure if he qualified as one.
"Would you teach me martial arts?" Qianning batted her eyelids and rested her head on Ye Chen's shoulder.
Her playful demeanor was endearing, every little gesture captivating.
"We'll discuss that later. First, we need to deal with them," Ye Chen said, turning his attention to Yan De.
It was clear that Yan De was an ambitious man, showing no sign of fear.
"What do you want?" Yan De had never imagined a high school student could be a martial artist.
Though uncertain, as he had never heard of a martial artist as young as Ye Chen, Yan De could not fathom any other identity for Ye Chen, who had taken on dozens of his men alone.
"It's quite simple. You wanted to break our arms and legs, so I'll break yours. Fair, isn't it?" Ye Chen proposed.
"Breaking my limbs won't benefit you. I can offer you a substantial amount of money," Yan De, aware of Ye Chen's financial needs, tried to negotiate.
"How much are we talking about?"
"One million yuan," Yan De offered.
"One million? One million for one hand. You have four hands and four legs in total," Ye Chen replied coolly.
Eight million? That was laughable.
Yan De might have been a mob boss, but money didn't come easily.
He wouldn't part with such a sum for Ye Chen, but since he couldn't overpower him, he had to compromise.
"Master Ye, I'll pay you four million for my limbs. As for the lady, you can decide her fate. How about that?" Yan De suggested, producing a bank card and extending it toward Ye Chen.
"Honey, you can't leave me. We've been together for so long."
"Get out of my sight. If it weren't for you, would I have lost four million? You brought this on yourself."
Yan De delivered a slap to Lan's face.
Ye Chen couldn't tell how forceful Yan De's slap was, but it was enough to knock Lan unconscious.
