C9 Misdiagnosis
Zhu Wen produced a row of silver needles from his robe.
"Auntie, Miss Qianning will be all right five minutes after I complete the acupuncture," he assured the nanny.
"Thank you," the nanny replied.
After disinfecting the needles, Zhu Wen picked one up and began the acupuncture procedure. He worked swiftly and efficiently, finishing in just two minutes. Wei Qianning's complexion shifted from a purplish hue to a healthy pink, and her breathing steadied. She was on the mend.
"Is this the Soul Stabilizing Five Needles technique of Master Ouyang Bo? I've heard so much about it, yet I've never witnessed it firsthand. Truly remarkable," someone remarked.
"Mr. Zhu is Master Ouyang's esteemed disciple. If Master Ouyang is considered a divine healer, then Mr. Zhu certainly deserves the title of Little Magic Doctor," another added.
"Little Magic Doctor!" the crowd cheered in unison.
Zhu Wen smiled at their accolades, having achieved his objective. Yet, he modestly responded, "I am merely a humble physician. Healing the sick and saving lives is my innate duty. I do not merit the title of Little Magic Doctor."
The crowd nodded in silent agreement, their eyes brimming with respect.
Indeed, Zhu Wen was the epitome of a person with virtue.
"Auntie, your mistress is well now. She'll awaken shortly," Zhu Wen informed the nanny.
"Thank you, Mr. Zhu. You are her lifesaver," the nanny expressed her gratitude.
Turning away, Zhu Wen faced Ye Chen with a cold, dismissive look. "Didn't you claim that Miss Qianning's chances of survival would be slim if I performed acupuncture on the Central Acupoint? Yet, she's about to come to. What do you have to say now?"
"You'll see soon enough," Ye Chen replied calmly.
Earlier, Ye Chen had been puzzled.
Zhu Wen's medical expertise appeared quite advanced, so why hadn't he recognized that Wei Qianning was suffering from a cardiovascular embolism instead of misdiagnosing it as a pulmonary embolism?
It wasn't until Zhu Wen had started the acupuncture that Ye Chen realized Zhu Wen had oversimplified the situation.
Zhu Wen possessed exceptional skills, enabling him to diagnose a patient's condition.
However, Zhu Wen's training was incomplete; he had failed to detect Wei Qianning's congenital heart condition.
Moreover, in his eagerness to showcase his medical prowess, he hadn't delved deeply into Wei Qianning's symptoms, leading to the misdiagnosis.
The misdiagnosis could cost Wei Qianning her life!
"Why are you still here? Are you waiting for the Wei family to come after you before you'll leave?" the nanny asked, furrowing her brow.
"How can he be so shameless? He deceived everyone and now he's refusing to leave?"
"Do you actually want Miss Wei to be in danger?"
"Let's call the police and have him arrested. He's a fraud!"
Suddenly, the nanny's shout pierced the air, startling everyone.
"Mr. Zhu, it's terrible. Miss Qianning suddenly vomited blood."
The sight of Wei Qianning's once rosy complexion turning black and purple, as she spat out a large mouthful of blood, terrified everyone.
"This can't be happening. I just used the acupuncture technique my master taught me to clear Qianning's lung channels. What's going on?" Mr. Zhu's voice trembled as he felt her weakening pulse and broke out in a cold sweat, overcome with panic.
"Had you not been so obstinate, how could you have misdiagnosed Wei Qianning? I told you she had a cardiovascular embolism, yet you treated her lungs. It may have seemed like the right treatment, but in reality, you've only increased the strain on her organs, leading to her coughing up blood," Ye Chen stated icily.
"Impossible. Who do you think you are? You think you're qualified to criticize me?" Zhu Wen retorted defiantly.
"Can't you see that Wei Qianning has an innate heart condition?" Ye Chen asserted with conviction.
Zhu Wen's pupils dilated, and his hands shook uncontrollably.
"She has an innate heart condition?"
The nanny, equally shaken, nodded emphatically. "Yes. The Wei family has consulted numerous renowned doctors, but none could cure her."
"Why didn't you say something sooner? Don't you realize that withholding information could lead to a misdiagnosis?" Zhu Wen collapsed under the weight of his error.
Zhu Wen had been confident in his diagnosis because he assumed Wei Qianning was like any other person. But with her innate heart disease, she was far from ordinary. More crucially, if his treatment approach was wrong, it could be fatal for Wei Qianning.
In the future, he would face not only the Wei family's fury but also widespread infamy. His career in medicine would be over.
"What? The Little Magic Doctor actually misdiagnosed Miss Wei Qianning's condition?"
"Did we all wrong Ye Chen?"
The nanny was startled into realization and quickly grabbed Ye Chen's hand. "Ye Chen, I was disrespectful to you earlier. It was all my fault. Could you please save Miss Qianning?"
Ye Chen shook his head. "Let the Little Magic Doctor treat her. I'm just a fraud."
Ye Chen turned to Zhu Wen and said, "Given Miss Qianning's state, she has at most three minutes left."
Zhu Wen was drenched in sweat, unable to think of a solution. Only the arrival of his teacher could make a difference, but there was simply no time.
Now, the only hope for saving Miss Qianning lay with Ye Chen, but for Zhu Wen to humble himself before Ye Chen felt as agonizing as death.
Yet, he dared not face the consequences of inaction.
"Ye Chen, I was impulsive earlier. Please, save her."
Ye Chen shook his head again. "But I don't have a certificate of medical practice. If anything happens to her, I can't take that responsibility."
"You..."
Zhu Wen was at a loss for words, not expecting Ye Chen to be so intractable.
"Ye Chen, I implore you, save Miss Qianning! She's truly on the brink."
Tears streamed down the nanny's face as she was about to kneel in supplication.
Ye Chen quickly stopped her. "Everyone, step back. Hand me the silver needles."
Ye Chen set to work on saving Wei Qianning.
He administered a total of nine needles, all strategically placed at vital points around her heart.
The nine silver needles appeared to form a miniature array, orchestrating the circulation of blood.
Particularly when the final needle was inserted, it served as the masterstroke. The nine needles, like joyful sprites, began to quiver subtly.
"Is this the Guiyi Acupuncture? To witness the Guiyi Acupuncture in my lifetime leaves me without regrets."
"What is the Guiyi Acupuncture?"
"Legend has it that once all nine needles are deployed, as long as the person has a breath left in them, they can be brought back from the brink of death. But I was under the impression it had been lost to time."
Zhu Wen's complexion turned ashen. With his level of expertise, how could he not recognize the Guiyi Acupuncture?
He didn't see it as anything special. After all, the Guiyi Acupuncture technique had long been lost. Was it just luck that Ye Chen succeeded?
As expected, once the Guiyi Acupuncture was administered,
Wei Qianning's complexion regained its healthy glow, and her pulse normalized.
"Remember, try to avoid any significant emotional fluctuations in the future. I can save you once, but I can't be there to save you every time. You need to take good care of yourself."
In reality, Wei Qianning was still semi-conscious. She could hear Ye Chen's advice, but she couldn't wake up to express her gratitude to her savior.
"She's out of danger now. Once the ambulance gets here, you should go to the hospital for a thorough check-up," Ye Chen told the nanny.
Overcome with emotion, the nanny replied, "I don't know how to thank you enough! I completely misjudged you earlier, and I'm truly sorry."
"We're sorry, Ye Chen, we all got it wrong."
"You're actually the real Little Magic Doctor!"
The onlookers felt embarrassed and began to apologize one by one.
Ye Chen casually waved his hand, dismissing their apologies.
At that moment, Zhu Wen found himself ignored and subjected to everyone's cold stares.
Always haughty, he had never experienced such a chilly reception before. "You just got lucky. Do you really think you're some kind of miracle healer? What a joke!"
