C1 The Zombie Farm System

Centuries ago, a ginormous earthquake reverberated across the trembling earth, causing the mysterious appearance of Blood Vines all over the world. Within the short span of a single night, they stretched over the horizon and reached thousands of meters above the clouds.

Horrified, humanity attempted all kinds of methods to destroy all the Blood Vines, but only to no avail!

When the Blood Vines bloomed, their pollen scattered into the air, gradually trickling down onto the ground like a drizzle. Any human — upon the inhalation of those pollens — ended up turning into soulless zombies, marking doomsday for the entirety of humanity!

...

A whole week had passed since Qin Hao first transmigrated into this apocalyptic world!

Throughout the entire week, he lived a life even worse than those rodents you would find in the sewers.

Let alone the zombies, he would not even dare to approach any survivors within his vicinity! After all, he had personally witnessed what those desperate survivors would resort to doing!

"A world where man eats man..." Qin Hao heaved a heavy sigh as he laid helplessly on the cold, hard roof.

Beneath his house stood three rotting zombies staring up at him as their slimy saliva oozed out of their jaws, dripping slowly down onto the lifeless ground!

With nowhere to escape, Qin Hao had only two options before him — either starve to death on the roof or go down to fight the zombies.

Moreover, without food to replenish his strength, it would only be a matter of time before Qin Hao ran out of energy. If he continued to stay there and do nothing, he would eventually meet his demise.

"Fuck it! Let's do this!"

The odds of him winning against three opponents were certainly quite low. However, even if he did end up dying, he could at the very least say that he died like a true man despite only being seventeen years old.

[Ding! Host located! The Zombie Farm System is now binding...]

At that moment, a somewhat robotic voice jolted through his mind, causing him to stop his actions.

A system?! Qin Hao nearly fainted from his excitement!

[Ding! The Zombie Farm System has successfully bound itself to the host. Congratulations to the host for obtaining a Novice Gift Bag. Would you like to open it now?]

Qin Hao opened it without hesitation!

[Congratulations, host! You have obtained: Lasso of the Undead x 1. (This grand and majestic item cannot be discarded or destroyed).]

"Lasso of the Undead? Sounds cool! But hey, System, are you sure it can work?"

Qin Hao made a small complaint to himself before receiving the item.

[Ding! Congratulations, host! You have taken your first step down the path of a necromancer! Any undead captured by the Lasso of the Undead can be cultivated into an item. Although its quality will be solely dependent on the level of the land, it will nevertheless definitely be of great use to the host!]

[The Zombie Farm Interface is now loading... Ding! The Zombie Farm Interface has successfully opened!"

Suddenly, a strange interface popped up in Qin Hao's mind.

In the middle of the interface appeared six pieces of land.

Furthermore, two icons showed up in the top left corner. One of which seemed to be that of a fence, supposedly where the captured zombies would be held captive.

The other icon looked like some sort of warehouse. Apparently, it could store both the things produced in the zombie farm and items obtained from outside.

Lastly, on the top right corner was an experience bar, storing the experience points gained from taking down zombies to upgrade the land.

From what he had just found out, the quality of the land was divided into seven levels — the Yellow Land, Crimson Land, Dark Land, Golden Land, Amethyst Land, Azurite Land, and Onyx Land.

According to its description, the higher the level of the land, the more powerful the items it produced would end up being. Moreover, upon upgrading to the Onyx Land, it would even be possible for one to grow the legendary Peach of Immortality.

The further he skimmed through the descriptions, the greater the exhilaration jolted through his mind. After all, zombies loomed everyone across the lands!

Unable to hold himself back any longer, Qing Hao picked up the Lasso of the Undead and looked down mischievously at the zombies roaming below. As it happened, he stood just close enough to capture the zombies.

The instant the lasso wrapped around the first clueless zombie, it quickly disappeared without a trace. Thrilled, Qin Hao hurriedly pulled up the Zombie Farm Interface and clicked on the fence icon. When it finally popped open, he could indeed see a zombie within.

Seeing that, Qin Hao dragged the newly captured zombie over to the yellow land and placed it down on the soil. At that moment, the zombie automatically buried itself into the ground, leaving only its head exposed. A second later, a sprout could be seen growing out of its head.

Curious, Qin Hao clicked on the little sprout and read the written information.

Name: Blood Grass

Status: Sprout

Function: Strengthen one's constitution upon consumption

Growth cycle: 24 hours

Number of Available Rewards: 16

Note: Needs to consume an ordinary zombie to fully mature.

On the verge of passing out from hunger, how could Qin Hao possibly wait any longer upon hearing that it was edible?

Without further ado, he quickly captured the remaining two zombies to hasten the process.

In the next second, a total of sixteen Blood Grass appeared in his storage.

He clicked on their icon, and then sixteen Blood Grass appeared in his hands.

Unable to hold himself back, Qin Hao quickly tossed one into his mouth! As he took his first bite, a burst of sweetness crackled around his mouth and a warm current surged through his entire body. He suddenly noticed that his fatigue had completely dispersed!

Before he even finished chewing his first Blood Grass, Qin Hao noticed his nose heating up slightly as blood suddenly streamed down from his nostrils.

"Well damn! This Blood Grass is far too much for my body!"

Nothing daring to eat any more, Qin Hao stored the rest away for now.

Standing back up and moving around, Qin Hao could feel his entire body rising with unsually great vigor!

With there still being one zombie left, Qin Hao proceeded to cultivate it. Unfortunately, what popped up was but an ordinary sweet potato.

Before, Qin Hao might have not liked it. However, it was a matter of life and death in this apolocalypse!

Qin Hao had personally witnessed what a human would do just for a single bite of food.

Thus, Qin Hao stored it carefully in his inventory as if it was a treasure and prepared to continue cultivating more zombies into other items. But what if there weren't any other zombies below the house?

Rolling his eyes, Qin Hao suddenly burst out singing at the top of his lungs!

"Let's learn how to meow like cats!

"Together, we m-meow! Meow! Meow!

"Acting cute and lovable when I'm with you!

"Again, we meow! Meow! Meow!

"My heart is beating fast now..."

The original cute love song had been utterly ruined by Qin Hao's screeches!

In spite of that, it had nonetheless served its main purpose as all the zombies in the vicinity had been attracted over to him.

In the blink of an eye, the house was filled to the brim with a horde of zombies!

Despite there being countless zombies, none of the ordinary zombies possessed the necessary intelligence to climb up the three-meter tall roof. Standing proudly on the roof, Qin Hao continued putting on a show in front of the crowd.

"Now, now... don't be in such a hurry. One by one~ One from the left and the other from the right~" Qin Hao let out a devious grin.

After playing around for three whole hours, Qin Hao finally captured all the zombies below.

Opening up his zombie farm, he found there to be nearly a hundred zombies stored within. Without further ado, he proceeded to begin planting each zombie into the soil.

He paused half an hour later, pulling a long face as he cursed to himself —

"What the hell is a Giant White Rabbit Carrot? What terrible naming sense! Have you considered the feelings of the carrot when naming it?"

"Why did another apple tree pop up? An apple tree that doesn't bear apples... how much more useless can it be?"

"And a garlic?! What I'm fighting against are normal zombies, not ones from Chinese legends!"

"And what's with all these Libido Boosting Grass? What does this system take me for? Wait- actually, that might be useful to me someday!"

Qin Hao continued spouting out complaints as he used up all the zombies that he had cultivated with great difficulty. Despite his greatest efforts, he only got a bunch of random agricultural products!

The only selling point was that all of them were extremely fresh. Even so, some of the fresh greenery were slightly coated in mud, which made Qin Hao fume in rage.

[Hey, you darn system! Come out and explain yourself clearly!]

Unsure whether it was the system actually getting embarrassed or purely a coincidence, he still clearly noticed some kind of reaction to his complaints!

[Ding! Having completed the novice mission with great excellence, you have obtained a reward: Gene Mutating Drug x 1. Please take a careful look!]

"Mutated gene?! What now? Am I going to become part of the X-Men?"

Although the system did not answer his question, Qin Hao was confident that the system would not do him any harm.

Gritting down on his teeth, he quickly injected the genetic drug into his arm.

Within seconds, excruciating pain shocked through his entire body. Every single one of his cell appeared to be collapsing and regenerating at the same time!

After resisting the pain for about one hour, the mutation process finally came to an end.
