C185 The Assassin of the Lin Family Lin Dong's Enemy
"Lin Family!"
"We've been ordered by the Lin Family's top brass to take your life!"
The two assassins yelled in unison.
They had witnessed Lin Dong's strength and icy demeanor.
They knew that if they didn't make a good impression, Lin Dong would surely exact a harsh penalty.
The cost might be death, or the loss of a limb, or perhaps an essential internal organ.
They wanted to avoid any of those outcomes at all costs.
So, when Lin Dong posed the question, they spilled everything as if spilling beans.
"Lin Family?"
Lin Dong crossed his arms, his brow furrowed in slight confusion.
"Which Lin Family are you referring to?"
"How many Lin Families could there be in Jiangyang City? Obviously, it's the one with the highest status and power!" one of the assassins retorted.
A realization dawned on Lin Dong.
The most formidable Lin Family in Jiangyang City was the very one he was set to inherit 30 billion in assets from, as a reward from the system.
Now, the Lin Family's higher-ups had sent someone to eliminate Lin Dong.
He was deeply moved by this revelation.
Clearly, the Lin Family had learned of his inheritance rights to 30 billion and wanted to silence him to prevent him from claiming this vast fortune!
And what about the woman who had given him the warning note earlier? What was her role in all this?
Lin Dong's thoughts raced back to the woman who had called him before.
Was there a connection between her and the people who attempted to assassinate him tonight?
The myriad of questions weighed heavily on Lin Dong's mind.
Once calm again, Lin Dong addressed the downed assassin he was pinning with his foot, "Which member of the Lin Family wants me dead?"
This was Lin Dong's final and most crucial inquiry.
Identifying the mastermind would allow him to retaliate accordingly.
Lin Dong was not one to let a loss go unavenged. Since they had gone to such lengths to kill him, he was determined to make them pay a steep price!
That was non-negotiable.
The lead assassin on the ground heard Lin Dong's question.
He inhaled deeply, alleviating some of the pain in his arm, then through clenched teeth, he managed to say, "I don't know."
"What did you say?"
Lin Dong's frown deepened.
He pressed down harder with his foot, and with a grating sound, his sole pressed even more firmly against the chest of the assassin on the ground. The bones in the assassin's chest were bending under the pressure, threatening to snap at any moment.
The assassin sprawled on the ground underwent a drastic change in complexion.
He was no stranger to assassination, having taken lives on more than a couple of occasions.
Yet, when faced with the imminent threat of death, the fear he felt was palpable.
Ignoring his pain, he cried out desperately, "Don't! I truly don't know. My only contact with him was through a go-between. All I know is that they're associated with the Lin Family!"
Crack!
His breastbone shattered.
Sharp bone fragments pierced his internal organs, causing profuse bleeding.
Blood trickled from the corner of the assassin's mouth as his eyes widened in shock. He reached out to grasp Lin Dong's foot, attempting to shove him away, but ultimately, he lacked the strength to do so.
Lin Dong remained unflappable and demanded, "For the last time, who in the Lin Family sent you to kill me?"
"I... I don't know..."
The lead assassin's voice was choked with frustration.
He was desperate to reveal his employer, but the truth was, he didn't have a name to give.
Lin Dong's gaze hardened, and he applied more pressure.
Crack! Crack!
The already fragile breastbone snapped again.
The assassin's chest collapsed inward as his eyes bulged, a torrent of blood spilling forth, until at last, his hands dropped limply to his sides.
"Big brother..."
The two junior assassins whispered in shock, careful not to raise their voices. Lin Dong had shown such formidable ruthlessness that any outcry might seal their fates.
If they had felt respect for Lin Dong before, it was now overshadowed by sheer terror.
"Remove him and clean up all the blood here," Lin Dong commanded.
The terrified assassins sprang into action. One scrambled for paper towels while the other hauled up their fallen leader.
Together, they swiftly wiped the floor clean, meticulously mopping until not a trace remained.
Lin Dong gestured dismissively for them to leave. As they did, he instructed the two wounded survivors to inform the Lin Family of his intent to retaliate.
"Tell them to await my vengeance," he said, a clear warning to the Lin Family.
The assassins swiftly concurred. Under Lin Dong's watchful gaze, they hoisted the body of their fallen comrade and hastened into the nearby river. That was the very route from which they had emerged, and now they retreated the same way.
Lin Dong remained at the bedroom doorway, his gaze following the vanishing figures. His eyes, however, betrayed a chilling coldness.
