C6 Soong Qing
Tang Hao strode up to the boss's desk and took a seat in the chair formerly occupied by a beautiful woman. The vantage point was excellent, offering a panoramic view of the entire room.
Soong Qing approached the bookshelf and retrieved a hefty stack of documents, which she then handed to Tang Hao. As he rapidly scanned the information, a vein throbbed at his temple. His sister had gotten married—to a complete jerk, no less!
"Damn it," Tang Hao muttered under his breath.
Observing her longtime partner's increasingly dark expression, Soong Qing couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for the unfortunate jerk.
The organization Tang Hao belonged to was filled with talented individuals from all walks of life. Tang Hao himself was skilled in medicine, possessing unique abilities beyond the reach of ordinary people. He could manipulate small elements, for instance, gathering water elements from the air to extract their heat and form ice needles, which he could then direct to move within the human body.
Soong Qing had her own set of skills as well. She could control anything within a ten-meter radius, although her power came with limitations. Using her abilities to destroy or manipulate energy-intensive objects would leave her weakened for an extended period.
The past had unfolded with shocking abruptness. During a mission with Tang Hao to dismantle a violent organization, a bomb detonated prematurely due to Soong Qing's miscalculation. The explosion's timing was too short for the wealthy heir to escape, and Tang Hao failed to rescue him. As a result, Tang Hao secluded himself in a psychiatric hospital for three years, taking the full brunt of the blame and sparing Soong Qing from any fallout.
"I've always been trying to talk some sense into her," Soong Qing said in a hushed, hesitant voice. "But she just won't listen."
"She's been utterly duped by that scumbag. Even when I laid out the harsh truth and logic before her, Little Duo refused to believe it."
Soong Qing had faced her own challenges over the years. The organization's internal factions had splintered, and the family of the deceased young master relentlessly pursued Tang Hao. Their mentor, who had guided both Tang Hao and Soong Qing, had passed away unexpectedly.
Taking a contingent with her, Soong Qing had branched out to establish her own faction. After three years of growth, they had finally amassed enough power to expunge Tang Hao's records completely.
"I need your help to strengthen the force we've built together," Soong Qing said to Tang Hao, her eyes filled with a plea for sympathy.
"If you'd like, I could even step down and offer you the position of sect master."
"Tang Hao, you're the best," she cooed, her voice playful as she slid a black card and a hefty set of keys across the table with her delicate fingers.
"The head of the Tang family is gravely ill. I need you to assist him. In doing so, the Tang family will become a significant ally for us."
"Here's the compensation you've earned over the years, including the property and vehicles I've acquired for you. Whatever you need, I'm here to support you. Do you need me to take care of Lin Mengyao for you?"
For a woman like Soong Qing, building an extensive network was no small feat.
Despite her noble birth and some influence from her family, creating a top-tier organization with those resources alone was a pipe dream.
Over the years, Soong Qing had often leveraged Tang Hao's reputation to get things done.
Tang Hao had once saved many lives with his extraordinary medical skills. But after his son's death at the hands of a powerful family, he was unjustly committed to a mental institution. Those he had helped did not dare advocate for him due to the family's influence.
Yet the fact remained that Tang Hao had saved their loved ones' lives, and they were willing to assist Soong Qing with projects and information when she approached them.
With the silent support of these influential families, Soong Qing had expanded her Deep Web into a formidable international intelligence organization.
Even from the mental hospital, Tang Hao was aware that Soong Qing was using his name to accomplish certain tasks.
But he never imagined she would achieve so much.
She had meticulously collected information and carved out the most advantageous path for herself.
"There's no need for that. I'm not suited for the position, and you're doing an excellent job. You don't need to flatter me; I'm on your side," he said, putting away the documents.
"Send me the details on the Tang family patriarch, and I'll handle it."
"And one more thing—you need to dig up some dirt for me. Investigate everything about Qi Guang's background. I want to know every detail, even the age he stopped wetting the bed."
Qi Guang had the audacity to become my brother-in-law and then mistreat my sister? He has another thing coming if he thinks I'll let that slide.
Fuming, he grabbed the black card and keys and scooped up his wife to leave. Then, he remembered something and turned back to instruct her.
"Also, there's no need for you to lift a finger with the Lin family. Such a trivial matter isn't worth your trouble."
Tang Hao, who was carrying his bargain of a wife, sensed something was off. Lin Mengyao's body had gone rigid; she was clearly awake.
He settled into his flashy red Ferrari and revved the engine. With a roar, he floored the accelerator and the sports car quickly left the base.
After driving for some time, Tang Hao, amused, noticed Lin Mengyao's trembling eyelids.
"Hey, quit faking. When did you wake up?" he asked, giving Lin Mengyao's soft cheek a firm pinch.
Her skin was indeed soft and smooth.
At his words, Lin Mengyao opened her eyes, holding her reddened cheek, and spoke with a pout.
"I didn't hear anything. Please, don't kill me."
"Haha, I won't kill you if you call me 'husband,'" he teased.
Tang Hao watched the little girl, who was petrified by Soong Qing's suggestion to 'deal with' Lin Mengyao, and chuckled malevolently.
"H-husband," Lin Mengyao whispered, her face blushing like a ripe strawberry, pink and tender.
Rather than feeling annoyed by the teasing, Lin Mengyao felt a mix of bashfulness and joy.
"It's 'husband,' not 'old husband,' and certainly not 'grandpa husband.' Remember that," Tang Hao said, no longer teasing his bargain wife, and drove his ostentatious Ferrari toward the Lin family villa.
"So, you're not crazy after all?" Lin Mengyao asked, relaxing and batting her dewy eyes at Tang Hao.
"Mhm."
"I'll keep your secret," Lin Mengyao promised, playfully winking at her husband.
Upon reaching the villa, Lin Mengyao stepped out of the car and gazed at Tang Hao with longing eyes.
Tang Hao, who had intended to say goodbye to Lin Mengyao then and there, found himself relenting.
He was always a sucker for those puppy-dog eyes.
Following Lin Mengyao out of the car, he called someone bold enough to take the Ferrari away.
Tang Hao resolved to give Lin Mengyao one more helping hand. He would assist Lin Quansheng in healing his legs for the time being, considering it the price of admission for the upcoming drama at the Lin family estate.
Lin Mengyao was truly a kind soul, always gentle and tender in her demeanor. Even before she discovered her true identity, she showed the same warmth and gentleness to someone with a mental illness.
