C19 This Is Just a Misunderstanding

Wong Yuvwei seemed to have caught on to something, but he didn't fully understand.

He was out of patience with such a loser.

He had no choice but to keep educating the guy.

"Exactly, it's an opportunity."

"The Wong family has been running the show in Free Port for years, and they're bound to be upset."

"With such a massive loss this time, they're obviously going to band together to come after you."

"Who else would they turn to for such a huge loss?"

"What I say doesn't really matter. Even if I lay out the facts, they'll just claim I'm the fall guy you brought in. You get it now, right?"

If Wong Yuvwei still didn't get it, he'd be a complete fool.

But understanding only made him more infuriated.

The current troubles of the Wong family were all thanks to this jerk.

"Why?! Why would you do this?!"

Zhang Hai looked at him as if he were looking at an idiot.

"Have you forgotten who wanted to kill and silence you?"

"You don't think I'd just let this go, do you?"

"Or do you think I'm as intellectually challenged as you?"

This grilling made Wong Yuvwei even more livid.

He thought it was a simple issue, yet it had been botched by this nobody.

With fury in his eyes and anger he could barely contain, he said with a scowl,

"So, you came here today for those 30,000 Refinement Crystals?"

"Of course, what else?"

"Great, I can give you the money. I might even give you more."

"But in return, you need to sell me your warship."

He had heard about the general details of the battle.

Although he couldn't be sure if it was solely the warship's doing, it was worth being suspicious about.

Rumor had it that even an average Barbarian Blood Warship could exert tremendous combat power in the richer regions of Sea God Star.

The capabilities of such a warship were simply incomparable to their standard vessels.

Now, he strongly suspected that this warship was one of those.

Zhang Hai was taken aback, not expecting him to harbor such an odd notion.

Still, he smiled and shook his head.

"Let's keep things separate. The debt in question is between me and Wong Jiangxue."

"I have no business dealings with you."

"I'll discuss this matter with her alone."

Wong Yuvwei's face twisted in displeasure, unwilling to engage in further pointless conversation. He signaled to the guard at the door with a glance.

Soon after, Wong Jiangxue was escorted out from the back.

She had been confined to the inner courtyard recently, unable to leave, and thus was unaware of the events transpiring within the Wong family.

Seeing Zhang Hai at the Wong family residence took her by surprise.

"Jiangxue, this chaos is your doing. Our Wong family's current state is all thanks to you."

Wong Jiangxue was utterly confused by the accusation. What was this mess about?

"Hehe, that's quite the accusation you're throwing around. It's baseless."

"The Wong family is in this position because of you. Had you not tried to weasel out of paying me at the docks and even attempted to have me killed, do you think I would have stirred up so much trouble?"

"Shut up!"

Wong Yuvwei was done with the conversation. He motioned to the guards once more and then turned away, dismissing them.

Wong Jiangxue sat next to him, her concern for him evident.

"This is very risky for you."

"Hehe, you worry too much. You owe me 30,000 Refinement Crystals. You can't just renege on that."

Wong Jiangxue gave a wry smile and shook her head.

She glanced at her brother and threw up her hands in a gesture of helplessness.

"I'm under house arrest. Even if I wanted to repay you, I'm powerless to do so."

"Is that so? Then how do you propose to pay me back?"

"Only if I can officially become the heir to the Wong family will I stand a chance. Otherwise, certain individuals will never allow it."

Her statement was clear, but Wong Yuvwei merely smirked with contempt, clearly not taking her seriously.

Zhang Hai, seemingly oblivious to the tension, asked with a grin,

"I've heard about a profession called Bounty Hunter. They'll do anything for the right price. If I were to take on such a role, how much would you pay me?"

Wong Jiangxue looked at her brother and held up five fingers.

"Fifty thousand Refinement Crystals. However, I can only offer you an IOU."

"Alright, I'll take this deal," I agreed.

Wong Yuvwei, standing to the side, let out a sneer.

"Do you think I'm invisible?"

"Or perhaps you believe you can actually leave here alive?"

No sooner had he finished speaking than dozens of guards emerged, surrounding us. The scimitars in their hands, pulsing with magical energy, clearly marked them as the Wong family's elite forces.

Zhang Hai swallowed hard, enviously eyeing their weapons; he didn't possess a single item of such caliber.

If only he could plunder the Wong family's treasures, he'd be set for life. But for now, such thoughts were merely wishful thinking.

"Kid, do you really think you can just walk out of the Wong family's territory?" Wong Yuvwei taunted.

He had been ready to deal with me from the moment I arrived, merely biding his time.

Wong Jiangxue gave a rueful shake of her head. She knew there was no chance for her to escape with me.

Yet, to her surprise, Zhang Hai remained composed as he spoke.

"Enough talk. We'll have plenty of time for that later. I hope the next time I come to see you, you'll show a little more respect."

Right after his words, a barrage of Magic Bullets erupted from the floor, sending the immediate vicinity into chaos and plunging us into the sea.

The crowd was stunned; an underwater attack targeting the Wong family was the last thing they expected.

In the instant Zhang Hai hit the water, he wrapped his arms around Wong Jiangxue's slender form and made a beeline for the Shuttle Warship.

They quickly boarded through a side entrance, but he noticed her face was flushed to the roots of her neck. His eyes dropped to his own hands—his unintentional impropriety now painfully obvious.

"Uh, this is just a misunderstanding. You're not going to hold it against me, right?"

What could Wong Jiangxue say? She certainly couldn't admit it didn't bother her, lest he continue to be so forward in the future.

Blushing, she remained silent and hurried deeper into the warship.

But soon, she discovered several new faces aboard. After introductions, they quickly warmed up to each other.

Dawn, the young girl among them, was particularly adept at sweet-talking her new 'big sister.'

A group of people were squatting in the Commander Room, chatting away, which left Zhang Hai feeling utterly frustrated.

"By the way, where did you get this warship? Shuttle warships don't come cheap."

Zhang Hai wore a smug expression, tossing his short hair with an air of arrogance. "I'm wealthy; acquiring a warship is no big deal for me."

The other two couldn't hide their contempt. They had been involved in the battle from the start. While the specifics of the situation eluded them, they were well aware of the outcome. Only a fool like her would fall for his tall tales.

Of course, had they not witnessed it themselves, they wouldn't have even considered it. A warship capable of transforming was something they hadn't even heard of before.

Wong Jiangxue's brow furrowed slightly; she sensed there was more to his story than he let on. But in the grand scheme of things, it didn't really matter.

"Fine, but is this really what you're having for lunch? You claim to be a wealthy man."

Zhang Hai and his companions glanced at the lobster in their hands, completely baffled. Lobster was a delicacy for the affluent, wasn't it? Or was there some hidden catch they were missing?
