C8 Faang Chonggong Came Again

Suddenly, the door to the room burst open.

Wei Ying was startled—was that Zhao Feng?!

"Why are you home? Shouldn't you be taking care of Grandpa?"

Zhao Feng noticed her reddened eyes, a clear sign she had been crying. "What's wrong?"

Wei Ying shook her head. "Nothing. You haven't answered my question."

"Oh." Zhao Feng shut the door behind him and explained, "Grandpa's okay now, so I came back."

"What do you mean he's okay? He's been out cold for over twenty-four hours." Wei Ying's worry was palpable. "I know the Wei Family hasn't treated you well, but Grandpa has always been kind to you. The whole house is in disarray. Only when Grandpa recovers will the Wei Family have its pillar of strength!"

As her distress grew, Zhao Feng gently coaxed her to sit down and quietly reassured her, "Don't worry, Grandpa isn't really sick."

Wei Ying's eyes widened in disbelief. "What are you saying?"

Zhao Feng repeated firmly, "Grandpa isn't sick at all! He's been faking it!"

"Faking it?" Wei Ying was stunned, but she quickly connected the dots. "Is this because Director Li wants to buy the company?"

Zhao Feng nodded. "Exactly. How else could you explain the timing of Grandpa's 'illness'? The old man's still got some tricks up his sleeve."

"But he's been lying there motionless all afternoon," Wei Ying pointed out.

"He took a low dose of sleeping pills to make it convincing. How else could he have deceived so many?"

"And what about Professor Zhang? Didn't he realize?" Wei Ying was still trying to piece it all together.

Zhao Feng chuckled. "Professor Zhang was... my mentor in college. We were in on it together at Grandpa's house!"

Hearing this, Wei Ying breathed a sigh of relief. Zhao Feng had really come through for them. "Thank you," she said spontaneously.

Zhao Feng simply smiled. "No need to thank me."

But Wei Ying's thoughts were in turmoil as she remembered the previous night's events. She had missed her chance to secure exclusive agency rights, and her company was on the brink of bankruptcy. She couldn't let Zhao Feng get dragged down with her.

At dinner, Wei Ying presented a document.

"Zhao Feng, I've made up my mind. Since grandpa is fine, let's go ahead and finalize our divorce as soon as possible," Wei Ying said, her lips quivering as if it took immense resolve to speak. Merely uttering the word "divorce" sent a sharp pang through her heart.

Zhao Feng's brow furrowed, his intense gaze fixed on Wei Ying. "What's the rush all of a sudden? Did something happen?"

"It's nothing. I just want a divorce," Wei Ying insisted, fighting back tears with a steely determination in her voice.

"I'm asking you what's wrong!" Zhao Feng raised his voice, his penetrating stare causing Wei Ying's resolve to waver.

Wei Ying, in a state of despair, covered her face, no longer able to contain her tears. "I've lost the exclusive agency rights; my company is finished. I thought sacrificing my marriage could save it. To get ahead in the market, I signed contracts with several companies prematurely. Now, everything's fallen apart... The compensation alone could bankrupt me."

Looking up, Wei Ying's tear-streaked face tugged at Zhao Feng's heartstrings. "I can't drag you down with me. We should divorce."

She pulled out a bank card from her wallet. "There's 100,000 yuan on this card. It's a thank you for your three years of dedication, and for looking after grandpa."

Zhao Feng stroked his chin, a smile spreading across his face as he took the bank card from Wei Ying and examined it closely.

Wei Ying's heart sank as she saw Zhao Feng's pleased reaction. He must have been waiting to be rid of her. Her life was a failure, and now she had only herself to rely on.

With a defiant swipe at her tears, Wei Ying said, "Let's pick a time to do the paperwork then."

"Hold on!" Zhao Feng interjected.

"What now?" Wei Ying asked, her voice tinged with frost.

"One hundred thousand yuan," Zhao Feng mused, "I've never seen so much money in my life. Is this supposed to be compensation?" His expression turned sly. "We've been married for three years, and you're giving me one hundred thousand yuan. By that calculation, I've indeed come out ahead."

"What exactly are you trying to say?" Wei Ying asked, her patience wearing thin.

"Well, if you're giving me one hundred thousand yuan, it's only fair that I give you something in return, right?" Zhao Feng replied.

"No need!" Wei Ying swiftly declined.

"That's not acceptable. If you don't allow me to make amends, I'm not going anywhere," Zhao Feng declared with conviction.

"Alright," Wei Ying sighed, feeling utterly drained. "Do as you wish."

"Listen up, then," Zhao Feng said, suddenly taking hold of Wei Ying's hand with a beaming smile. "I'm pretty broke, and after a lot of thought, I realized I don't have much of value to offer. So, it looks like I have no choice but to reluctantly dedicate the rest of my life to you!"

"You..." Wei Ying intended to pull her hand away, but Zhao Feng's words rooted her to the spot, tears quietly tracing her cheeks. Despite the tears, her heart fluttered with an inexplicable sweetness.
