"This old man carries that much clout?" Lin Chen asked, eyeing the stooped figure behind Chairman Lee. The man might have seemed unremarkable, but Lin Chen could sense a formidable strength emanating from him. Still, he remained unfazed.

"Well, Chairman Lee is connected to many powerful figures—his influence is quite frightening," Qian Duoduo explained, his eyes flickering with complexity as he regarded Lin Chen. "Later on, Director Ann will likely have to make a show of disciplining us to appease Zhang Changsheng. It's the only way to mollify Chairman Lee's wrath."

"So when that moment comes, please understand that Director Ann is acting out of necessity, not choice," Qian Duoduo added.

No sooner had he finished than Ann Lan turned to face Chairman Lee with a serene gaze.

"Chairman Lee, regarding the incident with Director Zhang, it was I who instructed Lin Chen and the others to take action," she declared evenly.

At her words, a hush descended over the room.
