C8 Troublesome!
After mastering the wood spirit, Liu Changqing stepped out of his room. At that very moment, Zhu Zhaofeng was heading his way with a document bag in hand. Catching sight of him, she hesitated before calling out, "Changqing."
"Hmm?"
Liu Changqing paused and turned to face Zhu Zhaofeng.
"This is your employment packet from the Parway Group. I had thought you were gone for good and was about to burn it, but now it seems you'll be needing it."
She extended the document bag to Liu Changqing, who took it and peered inside to find the Parway Group's onboarding paperwork. Memories flooded his mind of the body's original owner, who had been poached by the prestigious Parway Group at this year's job fair, only to fall victim to Lee Ming before ever receiving this very notice.
"I get it. Thanks, Mom," Liu Changqing said, managing a strained smile. The fusion had subtly shifted his temperament. In his past life, he'd lived in solitude, severing all emotional ties, only to be met with betrayal in the end.
Now, with a second chance granted by the Eye of the Universe, Liu Changqing resolved to walk a different path, to savor the full spectrum of human experience. Perhaps this would even propel his cultivation to new heights, beyond that of an Immortal Emperor!
"..."
Zhu Zhaofeng watched her son, words teetering on the brink of expression, but she swallowed them down. Since his miraculous return, her son had changed profoundly, and she couldn't shake the feeling that he might not be the same person. Yet such thoughts were too fantastical to entertain, especially in a society grounded in science, where the extraordinary was deemed nonexistent. So, she let her doubts fade away.
Amid their conversation, a commotion erupted outside the breakfast shop. Several black sedans screeched to a halt, disgorging more than a dozen men with a menacing air about them, clearly looking for trouble.
Liu Changqing's eyes narrowed on the newcomers, his instincts kicking into high alert.
Zhu Zhaofeng sensed trouble the moment she laid eyes on the group. Their intentions were clearly not friendly—were they here to stir up problems?
"Who are you looking for?"
Shielding Liu Changqing behind her, Zhu Zhaofeng stepped forward and asked with caution.
"Step aside, Liu Changqing. Our boss wants a word with you!"
Qian Cheng emerged, fixing his gaze on Liu Changqing, who was hidden behind Zhu Zhaofeng.
"And who might your boss be?"
Liu Changqing inquired.
"You'd be terrified to know. It's the chairman of Vast Ocean Group, Lee Canghai!"
Qian Cheng looked down on Liu Changqing as if he were a mere country bumpkin.
This guy was clueless, daring to strike Lee Ming, the chairman's only son. He clearly had no idea the trouble he was in.
"Oh! Never heard of him."
Liu Changqing responded nonchalantly.
Truth be told, he wasn't lying; he genuinely had no clue who Lee Canghai was.
But to Qian Cheng, his honesty seemed like a facade.
Pretending to be ignorant, huh?
You don't know who Lee Canghai is? The Vast Ocean Group is a massive enterprise, and Lee Canghai is in the news nearly every day. And you're trying to tell me you don't know him? Are you kidding me?
Disrespecting Lee Canghai like that, if you don't face consequences, who will?
"Kid, you've got some nerve! It's been a while since anyone dared to dismiss our boss like that. Enough talk, come with us!"
Qian Cheng advanced a step closer.
Zhu Zhaofeng, hearing Qian Cheng's veiled threats and recalling the wealthy Lee Ming who had nearly killed Liu Changqing, could easily piece together their connection.
They claimed they wanted to 'talk' to Liu Changqing, but it was clear they were out for retribution. Her son had narrowly escaped death's door, and if not for divine intervention, she would be mourning him now. The relief of having him back was too precious to risk.
"Don't come any closer, or I'll call the police! My son is staying right here at home, and he's not going anywhere!"
Zhu Zhaofeng spread her arms wide, blocking the center of the shop.
"Old man, you dare stand in my way? You're asking for trouble!"
Qian Cheng's temper flared upon encountering Zhu Zhaofeng's obstruction. With no hesitation, he swung a slap towards her face.
"Hmm?"
Zhu Zhaofeng, terrified, shut her eyes, but the expected slap never landed. Tentatively, she opened her eyes a crack and was surprised to find Liu Changqing had appeared before her, his hand gripping Qian Cheng's arm, intercepting the blow mid-air.
"My mother's getting on in years; she can't handle such shocks. If your boss is looking for me, I'll come along willingly!"
Liu Changqing flung Qian Cheng's hand aside and declared.
"Kid, you've got nerve! You'll regret this soon enough!"
A sinister glint passed through Qian Cheng's eyes. The breakfast shop was bustling with people, too public for a scene. With the internet so pervasive, any incident captured and uploaded could be disastrous.
But once Liu Changqing was in their car, his fate was sealed. Qian Cheng was already anticipating the moment he could deliver the news of his capture.
"Let's go!"
Qian Cheng glared at Liu Changqing with malice as the crowd parted, allowing Liu Changqing to approach the vehicle.
Unfazed, Liu Changqing handed the document bag to Zhu Zhaofeng and reassured her, "Mom, don't worry, I'm okay. I'll be back later."
"Changqing..."
Zhu Zhaofeng began, her voice trailing off as Liu Changqing turned and strode towards the car parked outside the shop.
He opened the door, settled into the car, and the convoy rolled away from the breakfast shop with pomp.
Zhu Zhaofeng watched the car disappear from view, her face etched with concern and her brow furrowed.
Inside the car, Liu Changqing sat relaxed, legs crossed, exuding an air of detachment.
Regardless of Qian Cheng's intentions, Liu Changqing was fearless. If they harbored any ill will, he was ready to deal with them—permanently.
In the passenger seat, Qian Cheng caught Liu Changqing's expression in the rearview mirror and let out a contemptuous snort. "Enjoy your moment now, because soon, I'll be the one sending you to meet the Grim Reaper!"
As they drove, the car veered towards the outskirts of town. Before them, a succession of green mountains emerged, along with thick forests. The area was a sea of vegetation, devoid of any living creatures for miles around – a true no man's land.
"They're definitely planning to make a move on me," Liu Changqing mused, taking in the desolate surroundings. It was a classic scenario: a remote spot, perfect for a murder to silence someone.
Previously, Liu Changqing had considered taking them out first, but Zhu Zhaofeng's presence had stayed his hand.
Besides, he had only just arrived in this world. Killing someone and alerting the authorities would bring nothing but trouble. He wasn't afraid of complications, but he knew that sometimes less is more.
The car's pace slowed until it reached a vast clearing encircled by trees. It was there that they came to a halt.
"Time to get out," Qian Cheng said, a sinister smile playing on his lips as he fixed his gaze on Liu Changqing.
