C38 Is It Luck or Misfortune?
"Enough talk, get them out of here!" Killing Windchaser charged at Harrison, unleashing a massive sword strike that sent Harrison staggering back ten steps, freezing him in place.
Gritting her teeth, Lau Yueying quickly ushered Zhang Ze and Midsummer Night Dream away in the opposite direction.
"You think you can escape?" The Night Elf loosed three arrows at Lau Yueying and her companions' retreating figures.
Shockingly, the arrows possessed a homing ability! Even as Lau Yueying and the others made it behind a house, the arrows persistently pursued them.
"It's an Innate Skill—everyone, watch out!" Lau Yueying positioned herself protectively in front of Zhang Ze and Midsummer Night, her Western Sword flashing as she shredded two of the arrows, but one still found its mark in her flesh!
-407! (Night Elf)
Wounded but undeterred, Lau Yueying pressed on with Zhang Ze and Midsummer Night Dream, relieved that their pursuers had ceased.
"They're after Sixth Uncle; they won't bother with us for now," Lau Yueying murmured, her lips quivering and eyes brimming with tears. With three foreign high-level Adventurers on the offensive, even an excellent Adventurer like Sixth Uncle faced grim odds.
"Ms. Yueying, what do we do now?" Midsummer Night Dream asked, his face etched with anxiety, having never faced such peril before, fear swelling in his heart.
After a moment's thought, Lau Yueying replied, "First, we need to find a place to hide. Once the boss of the Death Domain is defeated, we can make our escape."
Finishing her words, Lau Yueying glanced at Zhang Ze, finding solace in his unexpected composure.
Zhang Ze surveyed his remaining Summon Monsters—just two Rock Goblins stood by him, the Sword-shield Goblins had all perished in the fray.
Zhang Ze hadn't slain a single villager in the recent battle, leaving him without the means to call forth additional allies.
Yet, Zhang Ze still had three unsummoned BOSSes in reserve, his last line of defense.
As the group continued to distance themselves from the site of the ambush, Zhang Ze noticed Killing Windchaser's name in the team roster had faded to gray.
This doesn't necessarily mean that Killing Windchaser has fallen in battle. A team member's name turns gray when they stray too far from the group.
"I recall that the Devil Domains of each country aren't connected. Adventurers can only battle monsters within their own nation's Devil Domain. So, it puzzles me how your Sixth Uncle managed to make enemies with them," Zhang Ze inquired of Lau Yueying as they walked.
"True, the Devil Domains are separate, but the Death Domain connects them all! That's why you see adventurers from other countries here. I'm not sure how the feud started, but it's likely they clashed within the Death Domain," Lau Yueying replied gravely.
"Previously, the Death Domain appeared infrequently, just a few times a year. But in the last couple of years, its occurrences have been on the rise. This month alone, it's emerged twice! Last time it was on the twenty-third level, and now, on the fourth."
"I see," Zhang Ze mused. He had surmised that the Devil Domain was akin to each country's server, unique and isolated.
The Death Domain, however, was more than just an Instance Dungeon; it was a battlefield. Adventurers from all corners of the globe could converge here to test their mettle!
Trailing behind them with a gloomy expression, Midsummer Night Dream grumbled, "Had I known the Death Domain was this perilous, I never would've joined you."
Lau Yueying shot a fierce glare over her shoulder and snapped, "What kind of man are you? To be so easily frightened by a minor setback!"
Despite his fear of Lau Yueying, Midsummer Night Dream continued to mutter, "If only my Innate Skill were as powerful as Sixth Uncle's or yours, I wouldn't fear a thing."
Zhang Ze slowed his stride and gave Midsummer Night Dream an encouraging pat on the shoulder. "Don't sell yourself short. Your talent is quite formidable; you just haven't realized its true potential yet."
"Save your comfort, Zhang Ze," Midsummer Night Dream said with a wry smile, shaking his head. "Your talent lets you summon creatures to aid you, but what good is my ability to conjure Illusions? They can't fight monsters!"
Just as Zhang Ze was about to speak, Lau Yueying exclaimed in astonishment, "Oh my god! It looks like we've run into a boss!"
Zhang Ze and Midsummer Night Dream peered ahead and saw a towering three-meter-tall fat man beneath a bell tower, shrouded in black Qi.
The hefty man clutched a rusted machete in each hand, resembling a blood-soaked butcher.
His name was Death Butcher—the formidable boss of the Death Domain!
"Oh my god! Why are we so cursed? We just got out of one mess and now we're up against a boss!" Midsummer Night Dream lamented.
"Don't panic, the boss hasn't spotted us yet!" Lau Yueying scrutinized the Death Butcher. Seeing that he remained still, she breathed a sigh of relief.
If her Sixth Uncle were here, they might stand a chance against the Death Butcher. But as it was, the three of them didn't stand a chance.
"We shouldn't alert him. Let's backtrack and find another route!" Lau Yueying signaled to Zhang Ze and Midsummer Night Dream. They retraced their steps, only to discover Dr. Legendary and others nearby, seemingly searching for them.
"Damn it! They've cut off our escape route!"
With no other choice, Lau Yueying led Zhang Ze and Midsummer Night Dream back towards the Death Butcher.
"What do we do now? Foreign adventurers are on our tail, and the Death Butcher is ahead! Are we going to die this time?!" Midsummer Night Dream was paralyzed with fear, his body quaking.
He was around the same age as Zhang Ze, having just turned eighteen that year. He had been in the Devil Domain for less than a month.
Lau Yueying stood still, weighing their options. They were outmatched by the Death Butcher, but going back to face the three high-level foreign adventurers offered no better odds. She was caught between a rock and a hard place.
"Look, since we've already run into the boss, let's not let the opportunity slip by! Let's take him down!"
Zhang Ze's sudden declaration left Lau Yueying and Midsummer Night Dream dumbfounded, staring at him in disbelief.
"Have you lost your mind? We're up against the Death Domain's boss, and it's incredibly powerful. Do you honestly believe the three of us can take it down?" Lau Yueying voiced her opposition without hesitation.
Midsummer Night Dream shook her head emphatically, "No way! We don't stand a chance against the boss! We need to figure out an escape route, and fast!"
Zhang Ze remained unfazed, his expression calm. "Our escape route has been cut off by those three foreign adventurers. Do we stand any chance in a fight against them?"
After Zhang Ze's words hung in the air, both Lau Yueying and Midsummer Night Dream were enveloped in a heavy silence. Those three high-level adventurers were formidable opponents. Moreover, they were a trio. If they worked together, they might pose an even greater challenge than the Death Butcher itself!
"So, are you confident we can defeat the Death Butcher? Without that confidence, we're as good as dead here!" Lau Yueying's lips were pressed tightly together as she gave Zhang Ze a piercing look.
