C15 You Were the One Who Had Betraying Everyone!
Lin Feng gently reminded his grandmother, who responded with a subtle glance, silently assuring him that everything was under control.
Before Lin Shuyu's grandfather passed away, he entrusted the entire management of Lin's Group to her, leaving even her grandmother without the authority to intervene. Despite this, her grandmother was not pleased with the decision.
Over the past couple of years, her grandmother had been covertly rallying several of her sons and some shareholders in preparation for a power grab today. With the company currently experiencing a financial shortfall, such an opportunity was too good to pass up, and her grandmother was poised to take advantage.
Her grandmother, having regained her composure, offered a slight smile and said, "Oh, has Shuyu grown up? Are you upset with grandma just because I spoke a few words? Well, since you're standing by your husband, I won't say more. Today is my birthday, after all, and you must stay for dinner before you go."
Her grandmother was biding her time, knowing it wasn't the right moment to act. Shuyu's uncles and aunts had yet to arrive. Once all the relatives were present, and the shareholders of Lin's Group had gathered, that would be the opportune time to confront Lin Shuyu.
Seeing her grandmother relent, Lin Shuyu decided to go along with it for now. Having been raised by her grandparents after her parents' untimely deaths, she found it difficult to be harsh towards her grandmother.
...
Outside the villa, Xia Ming stepped out of the main hall and immediately called Elder Pang. "Elder Pang, I need all the information on the core members of Lin's Group—their dirty laundry. And while you're at it, include the Zhao Corporation's as well."
The Xia family, being the most powerful on Earth, had long established their dominance in the southwest region. For Elder Pang, gathering internal information and secrets about these families was a trivial task.
"Understood, Young Master! Within a minute, all the data will be sent to your phone," Elder Pang replied with crisp efficiency. He had been sent to the southwest by Old Master Chen specifically to support Xia Ming, and he had made all the necessary preparations in advance.
Xia Ming approached Lin Shuyu's BMW, opened the door, and bent down to search beneath the front seat. As expected, the gift box had fallen there.
Xia Ming retrieved the gift box and re-entered the living room, which by now had filled with several more groups of people. Among them were individuals Xia Ming recognized: Lin Shuyu's uncles, second uncles, aunts, and a few strangers.
Holding the gift box, Xia Ming stepped forward and presented it to his grandmother with reverence. "Grandma, happy birthday!"
Grandma, seated at the head of the table, opened the box with a nonchalant air and extracted a pair of fiery red earrings. They sparkled, translucent and gleaming like flames under the light.
The earrings were warm and smooth to the touch, providing a pleasant sensation.
Though Grandma couldn't identify the material, her status as the matriarch of a prominent family meant she knew quality when she saw it. She took to the earrings instantly.
Without a word, Grandma placed the earrings on the table next to her and offhandedly remarked, "You young couple are so thoughtful!"
Lin Feng watched intently. Xia Ming had actually brought out a pair of earrings? They resembled the pair from yesterday, though they weren't identical.
Could Xia Ming and Lin Shuyu really afford another pair of such value?
Lin Feng had investigated Lin Shuyu and knew that she had invested her savings of over ten million yuan into her company. Xia Ming, who worked solo at a karaoke bar, surely couldn't have much money left.
The sight of the fiery red earrings sparked a flicker of envy in Lin Feng's eyes. He had intended to embarrass Lin Shuyu and Xia Ming today, to make Xia Ming lose face and back down.
Lin Shuyu responded to her grandmother with respect, "Yes! Xia Ming prepared this for you. We're glad you like it!" She subtly signaled Xia Ming, clearly trying to let him take the credit and improve the grandmother's perception of him.
Lin Feng, standing to the side, pondered the situation. So, Xia Ming had made the purchase himself?
Stepping forward, Lin Feng lifted the earrings from the table and weighed them in his hand. "Oh, so my esteemed brother-in-law made this purchase? Hehe, surely it wasn't from a street vendor for two yuan a pair?"
Xia Ming's brow furrowed in irritation. Lin Feng was becoming insufferable. Earlier, as Xia Ming had presented the earrings to his grandmother, he had simultaneously pulled out his phone to quickly review the Lin family's internal staff information.
He had just stumbled upon some dirt on Lin Feng.
"Lin Feng, we're family. Is it necessary to burn bridges with me?" Xia Ming asked, his tone laced with intrigue. Lin Feng had never hidden his ambitions within the Lin family, always eyeing the chance to seize control of Lin's Group.
Sadly for him, Lin Feng's reach exceeded his grasp. Despite his grandmother's efforts to secure him a significant role within Lin's Group, Lin Feng's performance had been lackluster, leaving him with little respect in the company.
Lin Feng glanced at Xia Ming with contempt. "Family? You're nothing but..." He was ready to unleash a tirade but caught Lin Shuyu's stern look and swallowed his words. Another slap would be too much for his pride to bear.
"Xia Ming, tell us, how much did you really pay for these earrings?" Lin Feng deftly switched topics, avoiding further confrontation.
How much indeed?
Xia Ming was momentarily stumped. The earrings were a gift from Liu Tianxiong, who claimed they were worth eight million, but Xia Ming suspected they were worth much more.
"They must be worth several hundred thousand," Xia Ming ventured a guess.
Lin Feng leaped on the response as if he had struck gold. "Haha, what do you mean 'must be'? I told you they were cheap street stall trinkets, and you wouldn't admit it. Look, everyone, there's not even a price tag on these earrings. I had them pegged at millions... A loser is always a loser. Cousin, open your eyes and see the truth..."
He flaunted the earrings before the onlookers, pointing out the absence of any price tag, reinforcing their resemblance to street stall goods.
"Shuyu, surely you didn't actually pass off some cheap street stall item as a gift for Grandma? That would be quite dishonest!" chimed in Zhang Lan, Lin Shuyu's aunt, "I've always said Xia Ming was no good, and you wouldn't believe me. What a shame!"
"Shuyu, I'm not trying to criticize you," Third Uncle began, "but as the head of Lin's Group, you shouldn't have married someone like Xia Ming! Now that we're all gathered here today, it's the perfect time for you to divorce him. I believe Young Master Zhao would be a far better match for you!" Third Uncle added his voice to the fray.
"Shuyu, just look at Xia Ming's pathetic demeanor. What can he possibly offer you? Is he just living off your success? He's the one who's been holding you back, causing the company to end up in its current state... If you divorce Xia Ming, rest assured that we'll all continue to support your leadership and work together to ensure the company thrives..."
Seizing the moment, the crowd began their first round of verbal attacks on Lin Shuyu and Xia Ming.
Lin Feng couldn't hide his smug grin; this was exactly the reaction he was hoping for.
Meanwhile, Grandma, seated at the head of the table, stayed quiet, making no move to intervene.
Lin Shuyu turned to Xia Ming with a look of regret. "Xia Ming, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought you here today."
