C15 A Series of Conspiracies
"Dr. Mo, there's a patient in Room 105 who has fainted."
As Zhang Zhen was in the midst of applying his makeup, a young nurse rushed, out of breath, into Mo Qingge's office to report the incident.
Upon hearing the news, Mo Qingge wasted no time. She snatched up her white coat, signaled to the nurse, and they both hurried out of the office.
"What happened?"
Upon entering the ward, Mo Qingge found several nurses frantically attending to their duties.
A young woman in her twenties lay on the bed, her complexion deathly pale. Despite being unconscious, her face was etched with agony.
The arrival of Mo Qingge brought visible relief to the nurses, as if they had found their anchor in a storm.
Exchanging glances, one nurse spoke up, "She was admitted just yesterday and wasn't under our care. The nurse from the previous shift didn't brief us on her condition."
"Where's the attending physician?" Mo Qingge asked, her brow furrowed.
"We... we couldn't find him," replied a nurse, her voice faint.
Putting aside her frustration, Mo Qingge approached the bedside, gently lifted the girl's eyelids, and examined her closely.
"Get on with the treatment, will you? What are you dawdling for? Do you want her to die?"
Before Mo Qingge could proceed, a middle-aged woman on the other side of the bed, tears streaming down her face, pointed at Mo Qingge and accused her loudly.
"Listen to me, if anything happens to my daughter, you'll be held responsible. I won't let you get away with it; I'll make sure everyone knows."
Mo Qingge glanced at the weeping woman and, considering the peculiar circumstances, hesitated briefly before pulling out her phone to call Zhang Zhen.
...
"Makeup application successful, grade B+. Reward: 1 Talent Point. Remaining Talent Points: 1."
In the shopping mall, just as Zhang Zhen finished his makeup, the long-missed system voice echoed in his mind.
With a mere thought, the skill 'Benevolent Appearance' was followed by the softly glowing 'Extended Endurance'.
Enhanced Endurance and Recovery:
Zhang Zhen couldn't help but smile as he read the description of the skill. As a doctor, he was acutely aware of its significance. For him and his colleagues, working back-to-back shifts was all too common, and they were no strangers to the toll it took on them. Tragically, some healthcare workers even lost their lives to exhaustion while on duty.
"Just one more skill point and there might be hope for my hand to heal," Zhang Zhen muttered, his gaze fixed on the 'Self-Healing' skill that remained inactive on the skill tree. He clenched his fists with determination.
Ring, ring, ring!
In the midst of his resolve, his phone rang abruptly—it was Mo Qingge.
...
"I'm sorry, I've got to run," Zhang Zhen said, ending the call and turning to Leng Huaping with an apologetic look.
"This..."
Before she could respond, Zhang Zhen was already on his feet and quickly exiting the mall, leaving them both bewildered.
"Wait, I need to borrow your car!" he called out, doubling back to snatch the Cadillac keys from the table before Leng Huaping could utter a word.
...
At the hospital, Zhang Zhen rushed into the ward.
Noticing Mo Qingge nearby, he asked in a hushed tone, "What's the situation?"
The arrival of Zhang Zhen brought a glimmer of hope to the tearful middle-aged woman. "Doctor, you have to save my daughter," she implored.
Before she could go on, Zhang Zhen reassured her with a smile, "Don't worry, I'll do everything I can." He then knelt to assess the girl's condition.
"Do you have her medical history?" he inquired of the woman while examining the patient.
Suddenly, a man in a white coat burst into the room, colliding with Zhang Zhen.
Hey!
Zhang Zhen scowled.
"Dr. Mo, I'm Liu Huan, the physician in charge of this patient," the newcomer introduced himself.
This was the patient's primary doctor.
Mo Qingge gave Liu Huan a nod and inquired, "What's the patient's condition?"
Upon hearing the situation, Liu Huan didn't overthink it. "It's her usual issue, hypoglycemia. She'll be fine once we administer some fluids."
While speaking, he cast a surreptitious glance at Dr. Mo, his intentions barely concealed.
The others remained silent, but Zhang Zhen couldn't stand the way Liu Huan looked at his wife.
Just as he was about to interject, Dr. Mo unexpectedly suggested, "I suspect a recurrence of her heart condition. We should take her to the CT room."
Liu Huan quickly agreed, "I'm suspecting the same."
However, as they were about to have the nurse take the patient to the CT room, a cold laugh echoed from behind them.
Both men frowned at the sound. Liu Huan, clearly annoyed, turned to Zhang Zhen, the source of the laughter.
"What's so funny?" he demanded.
Zhang Zhen shook his head, "The young lady hasn't had a heart attack. Her unconscious state isn't due to heart disease."
"Do you know what's wrong then?" Dr. Mo inquired, her brow furrowed, aware that Zhang Zhen's conclusion might be too hasty. Regardless, proceeding to the CT room seemed the correct course of action.
At her question, Liu Huan scoffed even more, "An assistant playing the hero, isn't that a bit shameful?"
As he spoke, he moved to lift the girl.
Zhang Zhen, however, remained calm, "I have a method that will wake her up right now. Do you believe me?"
Dr. Mo examined the girl but saw no indication that she would come to, and her own examination had not revealed the cause.
Noticing Dr. Mo's hesitation, Liu Huan pressed, "Zhang Zhen, are you out of your mind? You're just an assistant. Step aside!"
Zhang Zhen shot Liu Huan a piercing look and confidently stated, "Not only can I make her wake up immediately, but I can also treat her condition. Do you believe that?"
At this, Liu Huan burst into laughter, as if hearing the most ridiculous joke.
"Haha, what a joker. This patient's condition couldn't even be cured by surgery, and you claim you can cure her?"
"If you're showboating here and we end up delaying her treatment..."
Liu Huan let out a heavy snort and said, "I think you're aware of the consequences."
It wasn't just Liu Huan; even Mo Qingge's brow furrowed slightly.
Seeing their reactions, Zhang Zhen couldn't help but laugh.
He turned to face Liu Huan and challenged, "Doctor Liu, what if I manage to cure this patient?"
Liu Huan was taken aback but quickly retorted with a smirk, "If you cure her, I'll strip off this white coat and leave this instant!"
Zhang Zhen smiled, nodding in agreement.
"Alright, I'm looking forward to seeing you do just that."
Liu Huan, still smiling, countered, "But that's impossible. If you fail, you'll be the one to strip off your white coat and run three laps around the hospital bare-chested."
Mo Qingge, witnessing the two men hastily make their bet, became furious.
"This is a hospital. Take your bets outside and don't gamble with the safety of our patients!"
Liu Huan's face contorted unnaturally as he glared at Zhang Zhen, who seemed utterly indifferent to the situation, as if the conversation had nothing to do with him.
Turning to Mo Qingge, Zhang Zhen declared confidently, "I have no doubt in my medical abilities. If I say she can be cured, then she will be."
Mo Qingge looked on, momentarily lost in thought, as she observed the determined Zhang Zhen.
Liu Huan, though outwardly stoic, was secretly delighted, eagerly anticipating Zhang Zhen's embarrassment.
Under the watchful eyes of the onlookers, Zhang Zhen produced a rolled-up cloth.
As he unfurled the cloth, chuckles rippled through the crowd.
Displayed before them were nine silver needles of varying lengths.
What was he planning? Acupuncture?
Traditional Chinese Medicine was known for its gradual healing process. Using acupuncture in such a critical situation seemed laughable.
Unfazed by the skepticism around him, Zhang Zhen's face was a picture of solemnity.
He deftly handled the silver needle and, with his 'Super Sustainable' ability activated, swiftly and precisely inserted a needle into the girl's heart area.
Though his hand was indeed problematic, Zhang Zhen had seized the few seconds of stability provided by the activation of his ability.
In that instant, Mo Qingge noticed the girl's expression transform. Her previously closed eyes and agonized face now looked serene.
Zhang Zhen continued his precise work with the needles. At this point, there were still seven silver needles arrayed on the cloth. With deft fingers, he twisted the needles and aligned them in a perfect row across the girl's chest.
The placement was impeccable, without a hint of deviation.
Everyone was uncertain whether acupuncture could heal the girl, but there was no denying that Zhang Zhen's skill with the needles was nothing short of astonishing.
A few seconds later, Zhang Zhen gently removed the last needle.
Then, with the 'Super Sustainable' technique at his command, he resumed his work. This time, however, he arranged the silver needles in a circle around the girl's heart, a different pattern from before.
