C16 The Most Miserable in History!
"Let's have some quiet, everyone. I'd like to introduce a new classmate to you all!"
Hino Le brought Yang Ming into the room without a hint of surprise, clearly having been notified of his arrival beforehand. She quickly introduced him to the class.
"I'm Gekka Ming," Yang Ming stated, his tone even.
His eyes scanned the room, landing on Guan Shang, Jin Cou, and Jin Mengzi, to whom he gave a slight nod in acknowledgment.
"Is that all?"
The class stared at Yang Ming, taken aback.
They had expected a more elaborate introduction, not just the four words "I'm Gekka Ming!"
"This new guy's got some character, huh?" chuckled a few of the students.
"Alright, pick any seat you like," Hino Le said, a touch of bemusement in her voice, before directing Yang Ming to find a spot.
Yang Ming headed straight for the back row.
There, a solitary blonde girl sat, her demeanor icy and aloof, her desk an island in the otherwise crowded classroom.
Yang Ming chose a seat across from her and settled in.
"Another oddball who's not into studying, it seems," the students murmured among themselves, then promptly turned their attention away.
Hino Le began her lesson, and Yang Ming listened intently, taking diligent notes. Despite being in the last row, his elementary Immortal Body allowed him to see and hear everything as if he were right at the front.
He was soon engrossed in the intricate and brutal history of the Ninja World, far more detailed than the versions he'd read in manga in his previous life.
"So this is the Ninja World?" Yang Ming mused to himself, checking the system task progress—just one percent.
"It looks like it'll take a hundred days to complete the system's mission and earn the intermediate Immortal Body and Strange Strength," he concluded, then immersed himself in study mode.
Class over, Yang Ming didn't head back to the orphanage; instead, he wandered around Grass Village. Now in the Naruto World, he was eager to explore.
But beyond sightseeing, he faced a pressing issue—his own basic needs.
Having an Immortal Body didn't mean he could forgo eating or drinking. It's possible that those with advanced Immortal Bodies might not need sustenance, drawing natural energy from the environment to meet their bodily needs, but Yang Ming wasn't there yet.
He had to find a job!
After looking around, he quickly realized that suitable job options were scarce.
He could wash dishes, but the pay was meager, barely enough to get by. Plus, his youthful appearance led others to offer him the bare minimum wage. That was out of the question.
Cooking was out too; he lacked the necessary skills.
The quintessential option would be to accept Ninja missions for a commission, but sadly, he wasn't a Ninja, and his young age meant he couldn't even get his foot in the door.
After much deliberation, only one job seemed to fit him—bricklaying!
In the aftermath of World War II, the Grass Ninja were caught in the crossfire, leaving the village in ruins. Construction and rebuilding efforts were everywhere.
On the construction site, bricklaying didn't discriminate by age, and pay wasn't suppressed; it was a fair job where hard work meant more money, and wages were paid daily—perfect for him!
"Who would've thought that as a transmigrator to the Naruto World, I'd end up as a bricklayer? What a tragic turn of events!" he lamented.
Having signed up and joined the crew without a hitch, Yang Ming began his new job.
As he handled the green bricks, a wry smile crossed his face. He might just be the most unfortunate transmigrator of all.
But to satisfy his hunger, he had no choice but to soldier on.
Impressive as the system was, it couldn't conjure up food from nothing; he still needed to eat and drink!
