C14 He Had Discovered Urlan's Ability and Refused to Accept the Treasure.
Urlan smiled and replied, "I have a knack for calculations, so naturally, I can figure out your name."
"Really? Then can you tell if my brother will make it?" Preston asked earnestly.
"It all depends on your efforts!" Urlan shot back.
Preston nodded and began earnestly talking to Den. He wasn't sure of the purpose, but Urlan had instructed him to do so, and that was enough for him to follow through.
The sound of zombies pounding on the stainless steel door grew louder, the banging echoing like a heartbeat in the chests of those in the live stream.
As time wore on, the group was astonished to find the door unyielding, impervious to the assault.
"Is the construction in the Chaotic Space always this solid? It's withstanding everything!"
"Seriously, those shoddy construction crews could take a lesson from the Chaotic Space. Otherwise, when zombies chase you down, you'll regret trusting their flimsy work!"
"Something's off here. This door is unnaturally sturdy."
"Right? Zombies have more strength than regular humans. No matter how well-made, there should be some give, especially in the unfixed areas! But look, the door hasn't budged an inch, like it's fused into the wall!"
"Maybe this is just how the Chaotic Space builds things."
As the debate raged on, the Chaotic Space office was meticulously analyzing the discussion topic.
They scrutinized Urlan's live footage frame by frame, seeking to discern her intentions.
"Director, we've noticed something when comparing the door's condition before and after Urlan reached the rooftop," one of the analysts reported.
Ollie approached and inquired, "What did you find?"
"Director, take a look. Before Urlan got to the rooftop, the door had these gaps around it. But after she arrived, the gaps vanished!"
Ollie studied the zoomed-in high-resolution photo. Sure enough, the once-normal stainless steel door was now seamlessly integrated into the wall.
"And there's something about Urlan's steel pipe. It didn't have those needle-like spikes before she met the brothers, Den and Preston. We've meticulously compared photos of the pipe she was holding!"
"So, what's your conclusion?" Ollie had his suspicions but wanted to hear their findings.
"Director, we believe that Urlan fought off the zombie virus, becoming a new human with a superpower related to metal!"
"Lucky kid, getting all these perks. No wonder you had the guts to save those brothers!" Ollie mused as he watched the live stream. "But I bet you didn't do it just because you could. What's your real reason?"
Urlan watched as the stainless steel door, dented from the zombies' blows, remained intact.
After a while, without a target in sight or the scent of fresh flesh, the zombies began to disperse downstairs.
Urlan had plastered the entire door against the wall, making it difficult for their scent on the rooftop to drift into the hallway.
Meanwhile, Den's movements had quieted down. With no noise on the rooftop, the zombies lost interest and wandered off without purpose.
Half an hour later, Den, soaked in the water tank, finally came to.
Seeing Preston's bewildered face and smelling the foul odor, Den started to struggle.
Preston firmly held him back, pleading, "Bro, stop fighting. Be good and soak a bit longer, or I'll have to get tough!"
With a snap, the tightly bound ropes gave way under Den's newfound strength.
Preston, taken aback, whispered urgently to Urlan, who had approached, "This is bad, my brother's turned. He's much stronger now!"
Urlan, exasperated, clarified, "Your brother's fine now."
"He is?" Preston's shock turned to joy. "Bro, you're really okay?"
"If I weren't, I'd have bitten you by now! Why'd you tie me up so tight?" Den retorted with a mix of annoyance and relief.
Preston laughed sheepishly, helping Den out of the water tank, who effortlessly tore off the remaining bindings.
"This water reeks!" Den complained, stripping off his shirt and wringing it out before setting it aside to dry.
Preston recounted the recent events to Den, who listened intently.
Urlan observed Den, and a notification popped up.
[Report: Den has overcome the virus, emerging as a First Level Strength type Homo Evolutis, without manifesting any superpowers.]
The system selectively displayed key information, leaving Urlan to peruse the rest at her discretion.
Upon learning that Urlan had used her own blood to save him, Den approached and knelt before her.
The live stream viewers erupted into commentary at the sight.
"What's happening? He's kneeling like he's proposing!"
"A shirtless proposal? That's a first for me!"
"Who knew Feather God was into such grand gestures? And here I was, ready to bear his children!"
"From now on, I am your devoted guardian. Please accept my fealty!" Den declared.
"Intel report: Den, loyalty at 100%."
"Wow, there's actually a metric for that? No more worrying about betrayal then. I really did pick the right guy this time—a new Homo Evolutis who won't stab me in the back. Nice!" Urlan mused to himself.
Preston followed suit, stepping forward and kneeling, "Me too!"
"Data update: Preston, loyalty at 100%."
Urlan nodded, pleased. This was exactly what he was aiming for, after all. He declared, "Good, I accept your pledge of loyalty. From now on, you're with me!"
"Yes, thank you, my lord," they responded together.
"The term 'my lord' feels a bit awkward. We're a squad now, so how about you call me 'captain' instead?" Urlan suggested.
"Yes, captain!"
Den pulled a package from Preston's embrace and presented it, saying, "Captain, this is a laser sword I came across by chance. It's the very reason we brothers faced mortal danger. Now, I offer it to you!"
Meanwhile, the live stream chat was going wild.
"Holy smokes, Feather God is killing it! Not only did he recruit two loyal followers, but he also scored a treasure!"
"A laser sword? That sounds like top-tier gear!"
"Now do you believe Feather God doesn't just save people without good reason?"
"Feather God, you gotta take it. If our nation can reverse-engineer this sword, we could be wielding laser weapons! We'd be unmatched, number one in the world!"
But Urlan calmly replied, "Hold onto it for now, there's no hurry."
The crowd was flabbergasted!
A treasure was offered, and Urlan just left it at the doorstep?
