C15 Glen Chased after Him and Begged for Mercy.
"What's happening here? Are my ears playing tricks on me? Did Feather God just say 'don't take it' and let Den hold onto it?"
"No, your ears are fine. I heard it too. What's Feather God up to? Grab it quick! That way, our lab can start the research ahead of schedule!"
"Does Feather God always stand out like this?"
The confused office staff turned to Ollie and asked, "Director, shouldn't we give Urlan a heads-up?"
Ollie, grasping Urlan's motives, responded, "No need. Urlan has his own strategy. We just need to wait and see."
"Ah?" The crowd exchanged surprised glances with Ollie.
Just then, the sound of a scuffle erupted from behind the rooftop door.
Den secured the laser sword and whispered, "Captain, looks like Glen and his crew have caught up."
Urlan's eyebrows lifted as he inquired, "How many are there? Are they all new humans?"
"Three. They were part of our team, hunting zombies and gathering supplies. Never thought they'd betray us during the supply run and lead us into a zombie trap," Den murmured back.
"In that case, I'll leave those three to you," Urlan stated, moving aside to sit on a step.
Den paused, then asked, "Captain, what should we do with them?"
Den wondered if Urlan's intervention meant he had a soft spot for them and whether he'd consider sparing their lives.
Urlan shot him a look and retorted, "Would you even think of sparing an enemy? That kind of mercy won't help you survive the apocalypse, will it?"
"Eh, I was just worried you might want to let them off," Den grumbled to himself.
Preston chimed in, "No way we can let them off. We need to get even and finish them off!"
"See, Preston gets it more than you do," Urlan commented.
Den, frustrated, exclaimed, "I'm so angry I could eat their flesh and drink their blood. As long as you're okay with it, they're not leaving here alive today!"
"Bro, take it easy. Cannibalism is not the answer," Preston interjected quickly.
Den rolled his eyes. "Ever heard of hyperbole?"
Preston gazed at his brother, puzzled.
Suddenly, the rooftop door creaked open, and a metal rod jutted through the gap.
Humans are considered advanced primates because of their ability to create and use tools!
Leveraging this principle, Glen and his group managed to pry the door open.
Urlan and his two companions, concealed by the water tank, remained unseen.
"This door is odd; I've never seen one almost embedded into the wall like this."
"Just get it open, find those brothers, grab the item, and let's get out. That noise earlier might draw zombies!"
"Right, but Den's probably a zombie by now. We need to be cautious."
Den overheard their conversation from his hiding spot.
He and Preston emerged from behind the water tank.
"Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not a zombie," Den declared, fixing a cold gaze on Glen's group.
Startled by the sudden appearance, Glen barked, "Attack!"
Without hesitation, Glen's group charged.
Den smirked and sprang into action. Before Preston could join in, Glen and his companions were already sent flying.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
They crashed to the ground, clutching their stomachs, staring at Den in terror.
"You... you've become a new human?" Glen gasped, pointing at Den.
Most people remain ordinary after recovering from the virus; only a rare few become new humans, and even fewer awaken special abilities.
"Actually, I owe you a thanks. Without you, I might never have had the chance to become a Homo Evolutis," Den sneered, advancing on them.
"Brother, Brother Den! We were wrong. Spare us, and we'll serve you forever, never to betray you again," Glen pleaded desperately.
Realizing they stood no chance against a new human, they had no choice but to capitulate.
"Spare you? If I hadn't become a Homo Evolutis, would you have spared me?" Den coldly replied.
"Brother, we've been a team for nearly a year. There's some bond between us. Just let me go, and I promise you'll never see me again," Glen implored, sensing Den's lethal intent.
The other two joined in begging.
"Brother, I have family at the base. If I die, they're finished!"
"Brother, remember when I treated you to roasted sweet potatoes? Please, forgive us this once!"
Den exhaled deeply, his eyes flickering with momentary indecision before hardening. "A year of camaraderie, and you betray your own over a worthless laser sword. I'm deeply disappointed."
"You're right, Brother Zhuang. We've been inhuman. We deserve the worst," Glen admitted, collapsing to his knees before Den, slapping his own face in penance.
Urlan remained seated off to the side, offering no comment on the situation.
At that moment, the viewers in the live stream were moved by the scene unfolding before them. "These three are so unfortunate. It looks like they've recognized their wrongdoing. Just let them off the hook!"
"Seriously, they're literally hitting themselves in the face!"
"Hey, you two up there, better hope you never get chosen for the Chaotic Space. With that kind of attitude, you'd be dead in no time!"
"What's with the harsh words? How are we going to die so quickly?"
"In a post-apocalyptic world, if you're lenient with someone who's betrayed you once, they'll surely betray you again!"
"Exactly. To put it bluntly, the merciful ones in the apocalypse don't last long!"
Urlan glanced at the chat in the live stream and subtly shook his head. Suddenly, he heard a commotion downstairs and called out, "Zombies are coming. There's no time to delay!"
With that, Urlan rose and made his way downstairs.
It was then that Glen noticed a third individual. As soon as Urlan spoke, all traces of hesitation vanished from Den's eyes. "This won't do. I need to find a way to turn the tables!" Glen eyed Urlan, who was now within arm's reach, and bolted towards him.
If he could just seize this person, he might be able to coerce Den into sparing him!
Besides, Urlan appeared delicate and defenseless – an easy target for sure!
Glen quickly reached Urlan's side, his dagger aimed straight for Urlan's stomach.
"Watch out, Captain!" Den shouted a warning.
