C5 The Chaos Department Had Approved the Moskieso Gene Potion.
Urlan cut to the chase, "The replica of the crystal nucleus I obtained has turned up at the bottom of a trash can on the third floor of the new department store in Solime's new district!"
"What?!" Ollie exclaimed, taken aback. "How did you come by that information?"
"I have my ways of gathering intelligence, just as I know that this is a hidden location," Urlan replied, sparing the details.
Ollie nodded, refraining from further questions, and prepared to dispatch someone to the specified location to retrieve the crystal nucleus.
Urlan cautioned, "Send someone you trust who's nearby. We have a mole."
"Hmm? How could that be?" Ollie looked at Urlan, puzzled, hoping for an explanation.
"Secure the crystal nucleus first, then message me privately," Urlan instructed.
Ollie would only fully trust Urlan once the crystal nucleus was in hand. Revealing more now might not convince him.
After the call, Ollie grabbed his secure phone and dialed his confidant in Solime.
"Director, what's the occasion for your call?" Hua Jianguo was already en route to locate the crystal nucleus.
"I've got a lead on the crystal nucleus Urlan found. I need you to check it out in person—make sure it's you," Ollie stressed.
"Understood! Mission will be accomplished," Hua Jianguo assured him.
Once Ollie disclosed the crystal nucleus's whereabouts, Hua Jianguo made a beeline for the location.
Meanwhile, Urlan sat atop a toilet, awaiting news from Ollie. To pass the time, he inquired, "Any chance of food around here?"
"Information: It's been 1,001 days since the apocalypse began. Most food is hoarded within the base. If taste isn't a concern, there are plenty of edible plants along the roadsides."
Urlan smirked wryly. "Looks like I'll need to make my way into the Survivor Base."
He then started scrolling through the chat logs in the live broadcast room.
Twenty minutes later, Hua Jianguo excitedly reported back to Ollie, "Director, I've found it—it's actually there! How on earth did you know?"
"Don't worry about that. Hand the crystal nucleus over to the Chaos Lab for analysis. They've been operational for over two months now—it's about time they had some work to do!" Ollie said, visibly relieved.
"Affirmative!" Hua Jianguo responded.
After the call, Ollie reflected briefly before requesting a private chat with Urlan in the live broadcast room.
"Beep, Ollie requests a video chat with you. Do you accept?"
The prompt interrupted Urlan's review of the chat logs.
"Accept," Urlan responded.
The call connected instantly.
"Did you find it?" Urlan inquired.
Ollie nodded, then asked, "You've provided the precise location of chaotic items. What reward would you like?"
The policy was clear: anyone who provided information on chaotic items or surrendered them would receive a national reward.
Urlan pondered for a moment, not opting for a selfless refusal. "Look after Tommy for me, or give him the reward."
Urlan had no doubt they would find the Tommy he referred to.
"That won't be an issue. We'll ensure Tommy is well cared for, and the reward will be substantial. That's a promise," Ollie declared earnestly.
"Thanks. I'll continue to do my part in the Chaotic Space, seeking items that will benefit Osmistan. Hopefully, we can catch up with the other nations," Urlan said.
"With you on our side, I'm confident Osmistan will indeed catch up," Ollie nodded in agreement.
After a moment's contemplation, Urlan added, "If you could get me pictures of items obtained by other countries, I might be able to track down some leads."
Ollie was visibly startled by the suggestion and stood up abruptly. "Are you serious?"
"It's worth a shot," Urlan replied. "But I need to see actual photos of the items they've acquired."
"Understood, give me a moment. I have photos of the gene potion from Moskieso. Their ninjas flaunted it in a live broadcast when they got their hands on it," Ollie said, rummaging through his desk with fervor.
Quickly, he produced a high-definition color photo and held it up to the camera.
"Information: The item in the photo is a low-level gene potion. It slowly transforms the human body over a day, enhancing physical attributes and potentially leading to the awakening of superpowers. This marks the threshold of First Level humanity. Two replicas have been located and consumed, with no superpowers emerging in the users. The last one is hidden in the southeast corner of a flowerbed at 136°E, 33°N."
"How's that?" Ollie peered out from behind the photo.
"Just a moment," Urlan replied.
"Okay," Ollie said, setting the photo aside before asking, "Earlier, you mentioned a mole in our office—who is it?"
"Last night, Setruarhiel turned one of our own. They wired the payoff directly to his wife's account. The Economic Crimes Division is already on it," Urlan revealed.
"Alright, I'll get on it and start investigating too. Thanks!" Ollie said.
"Don't mention it. I'm an Osmistan native myself!" Urlan replied with a dismissive wave of his hand. "We've got a lead. The last known location of the Moskieso gene potion is..."
"Are you certain?" Ollie asked, his voice tinged with excitement.
"Send our people to check it out, and we'll have our answer," Urlan responded.
Ollie nodded, affirming, "Alright, if it's there, I'll personally nominate you for a national honor medal. And rest assured, Tommy will receive his full reward."
"Okay, thanks. I need to get moving on my end," Urlan said, wrapping up the conversation.
"Keep me posted if anything comes up!" Ollie added as a parting reminder.
Once the chat ended, Urlan rubbed his sore thighs, gearing up to search for food.
Meanwhile, Ollie had barely hung up when a sullen figure entered, pouring him a glass of water. "Director, what did Urlan have to say?" he inquired.
Ollie's eyebrows lifted slightly, but he kept his composure. "Nothing much. He was just bragging about taking down a zombie and fishing for extra rewards. Oh, and Old Yu, could you fetch me the analysis report on Urlan's recent actions from tech support? I want to review it in detail."
"Right away, Director," Old Yu responded, his tone matching his name.
Once Old Yu had left, Ollie made a discreet phone call. "I need a background check on Old Yu. There's intel suggesting he's in cahoots with a foreign nation, leaking state secrets. His wife's the one collecting the payments."
"Understood."
After that call, Ollie dialed another number. "I need you to locate someone connected to Urlan, a man named Tommy. Once you find him, bring him directly to Merton."
"Understood."
Finally, Ollie made one more call, this time with a tone of utmost respect. "Leader, we've received promising news from the Chaotic Space."
"Hmm? Wasn't the individual selected this time around a frail graduate?"
"That's correct, but he's proving to be exceptional. According to what we know so far, he possesses a peculiar ability. He can glean information about any object, tangible or in a photograph, just by seeing it." Ollie stood ramrod straight as he reported to the voice on the other end of the line.
