C80 I will Find Your Leader
Lin Xuan was on his way out when the clamor of several individuals caught his attention. He furrowed his brow and paused in his tracks.
Giving Pei Qiuyu a gentle tap, he turned to confront the officers and inquired, "Who sent you?"
"You don't have the authority to question us. We're here for the manager!" the leader barked.
"We've got all the evidence we need against this place. Have your manager come and talk to me. If there's any resistance, you'll be facing a lawsuit!" he threatened.
Lin Xuan couldn't help but chuckle. Someone had the audacity to threaten him with legal action?
Pei Qiuyu stepped forward confidently. "I am the manager of Y Corporation, and I assure you, there has been no tax evasion."
The captain's response was a cold smirk. "Whether or not you've evaded taxes isn't for you to decide. We're here to confirm the facts."
Lin Xuan saw right through their charade; they were clearly here to stir up trouble. "Gentlemen, please, after you," he gestured.
"Who said anything about going inside? We need the manager to come with us," the captain retorted.
"What did you say?" Pei Qiuyu was momentarily taken aback.
Lin Xuan shook his head in disbelief. They actually had the nerve to demand that Pei Qiuyu accompany them? It was as if they were flirting with disaster.
"Why should I go with you?" Pei Qiuyu demanded.
The captain's arrogance was palpable. "Why? Because we're the law. When we say you come, you come. Got a problem with that?"
Lin Xuan merely smiled at the captain's bluster. Were all these low-level enforcers so heavy-handed these days? Who had emboldened them to this extent?
Pei Qiuyu stood her ground. "On what authority do you enforce the law? Why should I go anywhere with you? If you're here to investigate tax evasion, our accountant can show you the books."
Her voice carried the weight of certainty. Under her meticulous management, Y Corporation had always been diligent about its taxes; there was no question of evasion.
The captain scoffed dismissively. "Just answer me this, are you or are you not the manager, Pei Qiuyu?"
"Yes, I am," Pei Qiuyu responded, standing tall.
"Well then, that settles it," the captain sneered. "I've told you, we have all the evidence we need. What's the use in arguing?"
His condescending tone was unmistakable; he clearly didn't regard Pei Qiuyu as worthy of consideration.
Pei Qiuyu declared firmly, "Without evidence, I refuse to go with you!"
Lin Xuan chimed in, "Exactly, my dear, these folks are completely out of line! They even think they can take you away."
"Out of line?" The captain straightened his cap, chuckling, "Just so you know, I am the law, I am the sky!"
His proclamation was brimming with arrogance, a clear display of his disdain for others.
Lin Xuan warned, "Mind your language, or you'll face consequences you can't handle."
The captain laughed as if he'd heard the funniest joke, glanced at his two companions, and smirked, "He's telling me to be careful?"
"Hahaha, seems like he's lost his mind, doesn't it?" one of his men added.
To these men, a mere commoner like Lin Xuan daring to speak up was utterly oblivious to the vastness of the world.
They had encountered such audacious individuals before, but in the end, didn't they all grovel for mercy?
The captain, pointing at Lin Xuan with a sneer, boasted, "If I say she goes with me, she goes. And if you utter one more useless word, I'll take you too! Lock you up for ten days, maybe a month, let you savor the delights of jail food!"
Lin Xuan just smiled, "You're going to put me in jail?"
"That's right, you!" the captain jabbed a finger at Lin Xuan, "Move aside now, or I'll drag you along too!"
Lin Xuan beckoned with a curl of his finger, "Come over here, I've got a little something for you."
The captain's smile widened, "That's more like it."
Approaching Lin Xuan, the captain eagerly anticipated a token of compliance. But in a swift move, Lin Xuan's hand shot out and delivered a solid punch.
The blow left the captain with a shiner, his eye socket spewing blood.
Clutching his face, the captain bellowed, "You... you dare strike me?"
Lin Xuan, key wedged between his knuckles, gave a cold smile, "Consider that a lesson. Next time, be more courteous when you speak to people."
"Next time, I'll leave you blind in one eye."
Seeing this, the other two officers moved to intervene.
Lin Xuan cracked his knuckles and challenged, "All of you, come at once. I'll turn you all into pandas."
With a battle cry, one officer lunged with a punch, but Lin Xuan floored him with a single blow.
The other officer spun to flee, but Lin Xuan's kick sent him sprawling, his face intimately meeting the limestone pavement, his nose snapping instantly.
Pei Qiuyu was dumbfounded at the sight.
These were government officials, and Lin Xuan had struck them?!
The captain, clutching his eye, bellowed at Lin Xuan, "You dare strike us! One phone call, and I could have you locked away for ten years! No, for life!"
Lin Xuan replied icily, "And who granted you that authority?"
"I am the authority! For a nobody like you, I decide how long you rot in jail based on my whim..."
He didn't get to finish. Lin Xuan's foot slammed into his abdomen, flipping him onto his back.
Before the captain could rise, Lin Xuan's boot was on his chest.
Face crimson, the captain glared up at Lin Xuan and growled, "You're done for! You're done for!!"
Lin Xuan, standing firm, retorted, "It's you who's done for."
He then retrieved a work ID from the man and dialed a number.
"Hello, connect me to the tax bureau."
"Ha! You've got some nerve, claiming to call the tax bureau..."
The captain's words were cut short as Lin Xuan's foot pressed against his throat.
His face reddened, eyes bulging, he was rendered speechless.
Lin Xuan, not knowing the local tax office number, had called the top brass directly.
This high-ranking official, once Lin Xuan's lowliest subordinate, snapped to attention at the sound of Lin Xuan's voice. "Yes, yes! I'm on my way!"
"No need," Lin Xuan instructed. "Just send the local director from A City."
"Alright, alright, I'm on it!" the other party responded hastily.
Then he inquired, "Any other orders?"
"No, that'll be all. I'm ending the call."
With that, Lin Xuan glanced down at the captain who had narrowly escaped being crushed and remarked coolly, "You do have a way with words. Silence suits you better."
Shortly thereafter, several black Audis with A-series license plates pulled up at the entrance of Y Corporation.
A high-ranking official, clad in a business suit, swiftly exited one of the vehicles and hurried over to Lin Xuan.
Upon spotting the official, the captain's face went pale with utter astonishment.
This... wasn't this the top official from A City's tax bureau?!
