C18 Up the hill hunting
Uncle Li had heard from the elders that some domesticated cattle became aggressive after being frightened. They would use their heads to prod at anyone they saw, but they had never heard of a herbivores with fangs.
Ah Cong pointed at the mad sheep on the ground and said, "Uncle, how should we deal with this guy? How about my brother and I make it a roast lamb? "
"We can't eat it. Who knows what will happen to the sheep? What if it gets poisoned?" I'll bury him later. " Uncle Li exhaled a mouthful of smoke and said.
I think so too, it's better not to eat it, if you become like it and see people and bite them, that would be bad.
Uncle Li didn't forget to arrange for us to fix the shed of the sheepfold before we went back to the village. Although the pasture was not a mess after the wind blew, it was also a mess. We had to not only fix the shed of the sheepfold, but we had to find a way to fix the door of our cabin as well.
But before that, we had to take care of the sheep that wasn't dead. I dug a hole in the ground and dragged the sheep by its broken leg and threw it inside. Then I had A-Cong come in with a bundle of firewood and put it on top of him.
Smelling this smell of roast mutton, my stomach couldn't help but growl. Every day, besides cooking vegetables, I ate only a few pieces of meat. I hadn't eaten meat for a long time. Thinking of this, my stomach felt a bit weak.
"Ah Cong, are there any wild chickens, rabbits or the like on the mountains near here? I asked.
A-Cong saw through my thoughts and said, "There are wild chickens and we've seen wild rabbits. Do you want to get some wild game to improve your food?"
This is exactly what I was thinking. Since there are these little things here, why don't we go up the mountain and catch a few to roast them?
Just as I was thinking this joyfully, A-Cong said, "We don't have hunting rifles, so how can we catch a wild rabbit? And you might even run into wolves on that mountain. "
What A-Cong said was like pouring cold water on me, but there was less meat in the food, so I kept feeling uncomfortable. If I didn't eat more, I would probably go crazy for it.
I made up my mind that no matter how difficult or dangerous the journey ahead was, it would not be able to stop my craving.
I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to go up the mountain today. The shed of the sheep pen and the door of the wooden house would have to be repaired using time, so I decided to wake up early tomorrow to feed the cows and sheep. Then, I would go straight up the mountain.
After working hard all day to clean up this mess, it was already dusk by the time the hole in the wooden door was blocked. Ah Cong and I were too lazy to say anything due to our fatigue.
The next morning we got up early, and there was a mist over the windows, which was a common occurrence. Usually, when we woke up in the morning, the mist would dissipate at noon, so that didn't affect us going up the mountain.
While I was preparing the rations for noon, Cong was feeding the animals outside. He suddenly asked, "Oh right, what are we going to use to hunt pheasants and wild rabbits? Are we going to catch them with our bare hands?"
"Aren't there still two slingshot in the room? Wouldn't it be fine to just pick up some small stones? " I chuckled.
There were wolves on the mountain, and just in case, we brought two wooden sticks to protect ourselves. If we met any wolves on the mountain, we wouldn't have to worry too much about them. As long as you used the sticks to sweep their four legs, it would be like sweeping a hemp stick.
After making our preparations, the two of us headed up the mountain. The fog hadn't dispersed yet, but it didn't affect us much either. We followed the mountain trail for more than an hour before we reached the depths of the forest.
We used our hands to brush away the dry plants around us and searched carefully. There was a slingshot in our left hand and a stone in our right. Suddenly, we felt something move in the grass nearby.
"Shua!" A small grey figure suddenly flashed by. I immediately pulled up the slingshot in my hand and shot it at her. However, I didn't even wait for the rock to hit the ground before I disappeared.
"It's a grey rabbit. It's running too fast." Only now did Cong come to his senses.
It had to be lucky that it ran fast, otherwise it would have to take off its thigh and roast it. As I thought about this, I felt that the slingshot in my hand was soft and didn't have any killing power.
When I was a kid, I used to shoot birds with a slingshot, but it wasn't the same kind of slingshot I have now. It was made of a small piece of wood tied at both ends with leather, and not only did I hold it with great force, but I was holding a toy slingshot that was sold on the street. The handle was very soft, and the leather was very thin.
However, I didn't give up. I continued to search my surroundings, determined not to leave out any edible animals.
It was not a good idea for the two of us to hunker down and search. It was easy to alert the enemy, and the animals in the mountains were all very cunning. Any slight movement in the wind and grass would cause them to disappear.
At this moment, I suddenly saw a rabbit hole under a big tree in front of me. There was a pile of grass around the hole, and without looking carefully, it would be hard to find it. I thought of a good idea, which was to blow smoke into the hole.
There would be more than one hole in the rabbit's nest, and normally it wouldn't be more than fifteen meters between the two. One of us would just have to look around, and the other would blow smoke into the hole, and as soon as the rabbit appeared, he would shoot at it with his slingshot.
I took out my lighter and lit a wisp of hay. I put it over the rabbit hole and blew into it.
"Ah Cong, come over here and blow on me. I can't take it anymore." I rubbed my eyes.
Without a word, A-Cong bent down and began blowing into the cave. I noticed that the pipe was sweating all around me, and after a while, I saw a furry little head sticking out from the ground not far ahead. It was very cunning, only sticking its head out and looking around, but most of its body was still inside the cave.
I held my breath and didn't move. I was afraid that it would run back when it heard the noise. I prepared the catapult in my hand and whispered to A-Cong, "Be quiet and continue to blow."
I slowly raised my hand and aimed the slingshot at its small head. I thought to myself: Come out a little more, come out a little more.
Just as I was thinking about what to do, I saw the rabbit in the hole in front of me move its body up another inch and its head was exposed to my sight. I had already aimed the catapult in my hand and was waiting for the right moment.
The wild rabbit sensed the approaching danger and immediately tried to run away, but it was too late. With a "pa" sound, the flying rock accurately hit its head. The rabbit fell on its side and started twitching violently, its four legs kicking wildly.
"Let's call it a day." I said in satisfaction. I was even more confident in my accuracy. Ah Cong, who was at the side, stood up and asked, "Did you hit it?"
"Of course. Your brother here has a hundred percent chance of success. Where are you? Go and get it." I pointed to the rabbit on the ground.
Just as he was smug, he heard Ah Cong shout, "Brother, the rabbit has run away."
I was shocked. Why did I turn my head to look? The rabbit had actually struggled to stand up. With two steps and three steps, it fell to the ground and ran far away.
Aiya, this slingshot is really too soft. If it was the kind I used when I was young, I would have had to use my own brain.
Although it didn't die, it was still severely injured. Even if it could stand up, it wouldn't be able to escape our grasp.
Without waiting for me to say anything, A-Cong was the first to catch up. I also followed closely behind him. How could I allow the ducks to fly again?
As I was running, I suddenly felt something trip me up. My body became unstable and I fell to the ground. My nose knocked against the ground. I reached out my hand to touch it and a boiling hot liquid flowed out.
I pinched my nose and slowly stood up. When I looked forward, I was startled. Just now, A-Cong, who was in front of me, had suddenly disappeared.
