C20 Strange mountain forest
It was already dark outside the cave, but A-Cong wasn't by my side, which made me uneasy. Where did he go?
"Ah Cong, Ah Cong?" I shouted twice at the top of my lungs. My voice echoed faintly in the ravine, but I didn't hear a reply from Ah Cong.
If he went to the toilet, he shouldn't have gone too far. At least I could definitely hear him, but now he didn't answer me and I couldn't see him. This made me a little anxious.
He had originally planned to catch a rabbit or pheasant and go back to the cabin before dinner, so he didn't prepare a flashlight when he came. If he went out to look, he might get lost.
I decided to wait another ten minutes. If nothing had happened to him, he would be back within ten minutes.
The short ten minutes felt like a long time to me. After waiting for so long, I still hadn't seen Ah Cong come back. I didn't care if I would get lost in this mountain, so I went out to look for him first.
It was dark in the forest at night, so I had to cautiously and tentatively stretch my legs as I walked. Otherwise, it would be possible for me to knock my head against a tree.
I couldn't go on like this, I had to lose myself, much less find someone in such a dark environment. I slowly squatted down and felt the ground with my hands. There were some hay and branches on the ground, so I might as well light a fire or at least have some light.
The fog was formed by steam, so the hay and firewood on the ground were a little damp. I took my lighter from my pocket, worried that I wouldn't be able to light it, and said to myself: "We must light it."
With a "ka" sound, a dancing flame appeared on the lighter. Suddenly, a light lit up in front of my eyes. In that instant, it was as if there was someone standing not too far away from me …
I was alarmed and immediately raised my head to look forward, only to discover that there was nothing. I couldn't help but feel goosebumps. The feeling from before was too real. Could it be an illusion?
Although the grass and firewood on the ground were a little wet, the hay could still be lit. The firewood only needed to be slightly roasted to dry.
Not long later, the fire started. With the light, my heart felt much more at ease. At the very least, it would allow me to warm up in this cold mountain, wouldn't it?
Looking at the fire on the ground, I suddenly remembered something. How could I have forgotten to light a fire when I came out of the cave? He had a bright direction when he returned to the cave. After thinking about this, I slapped myself and said to myself, "I can't help but complain about how stupid you are. You've already walked so far away, so what's the point of thinking about this now?"
After sitting in front of the fire for five or six minutes, I reached out and lifted the glowing stick above my head. For the time being, I used it as a torch.
With a torch in my hand, I was confident that not only would I be able to protect myself from the light, I would not be afraid even if I met wolves in the mountains.
It's been a long time and I haven't heard a word from him. If something happens to him, how am I going to explain it to my grandfather?
As I was thinking, I suddenly felt as if there was a person lying under a big tree in front of me. The light from the fire was limited, so I couldn't see the person's face or figure clearly.
When I got closer, I saw that it was A-Cong lying under the tree. I quickly squatted down and pushed him. At such a close distance, I saw that he had a big bump on his head, as if something had smashed into him.
As I was squatting on the ground, calling out to A-Cong, I suddenly felt a pair of eyes staring at me from behind. This feeling came suddenly, and I couldn't help but feel a chill run down my spine as an uneasy feeling welled up in my heart.
Seeing that Ah Cong hadn't woken up yet, I hastily held my breath and turned my head to look behind me. I didn't see anything within the range of the torch's light. If I looked further away, I wouldn't be able to see anything.
There was something strange about this forest. It was definitely not safe to sleep here for a night. Who knew what was inside this forest other than wild beasts?
I found a few new branches on the ground and lit them up, then carried the fallen Ah Cong and left. Although it was too dark and I was unable to determine the location of the cave, as long as I turned around and followed the same path, I should be able to find my way back.
As we walked, the feeling of being watched returned. I had always felt that there was something following us in the darkness, looking for an opportunity to attack me but also fearing the torch in my hand.
On the way, I stopped and walked. I had to look behind me to make sure there was nothing to be seen before I moved on.
Although carrying Cong on my back didn't walk very fast, I felt that we should be near the cave, but I couldn't see where the cave entrance was at all. Taking a few more steps forward, I saw a small pile of fire smoldering on the ground not too far away, and the flashing red light was especially conspicuous in the dark. This is the fire that I ignited when I went out to find Cong.
Just follow this path and we'll be there in just another three to two minutes. As expected, after walking with A-Cong on my back for less than two minutes, I saw a cliff face. After finding the cave, I slightly relaxed.
I put Cong down from my back and dragged him into the cave. I lit a few more fires at the mouth of the cave, and only then did I sit down to rest after the flames had completely surrounded the cave. There were three benefits to doing this: first, there was light, second, the poisonous bugs didn't dare come close, and third, the temperature of the flames reflected in the cave so that we wouldn't freeze to death outside.
I ate half a rabbit at noon, and by now my stomach was growling with hunger. Plus, I was tired and hungry after carrying someone on my back all the way. Although I usually don't smoke and I don't know what it feels like to blow smoke into my lungs, I really want to take a smoke or two last time.
Just as he was deep in thought, he heard a series of "whining" sounds coming from behind him. It turned out that Cong had woken up. He narrowed his eyes and rubbed his forehead. "Why is there a bulge on my head?"
"I wanted to ask you, where did you go just now? You were lying under the tree when I found you. " I was a little angry, but I was relieved to see that he was all right.
"I... "I was peeing when I got up. I didn't know anything when I lifted my pants." After saying that, he stared at me blankly.
Hearing him say this, I was also puzzled and asked, "How did you end up lying under a tree so far away?"
Cong scratched his head and thought for a moment. "I have some impression of what you said. I didn't know anything at the time, but I woke up in a daze. I felt like someone was carrying me and running. I had a terrible headache and I didn't know anything."
After hearing what A-Cong said, my scalp went numb. Such a big bump on my head was clearly caused by something. After that, I was carried away by something. This is too scary.
I am almost certain that this mountain is very strange. Only humans can knock a person out, then carry them on their back and run away, so wild beasts are almost impossible to do.
No matter what, he had to get through tonight. He would leave early tomorrow morning.
The fire at the cave entrance was very strong. Although I was a little worried, I was too sleepy to keep my eyes open. Since Ah Cong needed to rest after getting injured, it wasn't too realistic for him to sleep alone and keep watch.
To prevent further loss, I had a good idea. When we were asleep, one head was facing the hole, the other head was facing the wall, and both legs were crossed in a "well" shape. This formed a simple human lock, and if there was any movement from the other side, the other person would know at once.
After sleeping for a long time, I suddenly felt that A-Cong had moved a little. I also woke up and looked around vigilantly. A-Cong suddenly said, "I think I heard a woman crying."
