C12 The History Quiz
Everyone took their seats.
"Mr. Talbot, may I know what the question you asked today is?"
"How can I become your disciple?"
A student asked everyone's question.
In fact, the purpose of everyone coming to the library to revise the history book was just one of them. More importantly, they wanted to become Mandel Talbot's disciple.
After all, in the eyes of the world, that represented a meteoric rise and a status that could be admired by others.
Mandel Talbot smiled and replied, "I will only ask one question today. If anyone can answer it, I will accept him as my disciple."
Mandel Talbot's words were like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, causing thousands of ripples.
"To become Mr. Talbot's disciple just by answering one question? I wonder if I can succeed?"
"Since Mr. Talbot only asked one question, I'm afraid this question will be very difficult."
"I think only a genius like Cameron can have a chance."
Everyone turned their eyes to Cameron.
It had to be said that Cameron had a certain status in the history field.
Many people admitted that they were inferior to Cameron.
Cameron had a confident smile on his face as he nodded to everyone. His eyes secretly drifted towards Julius as if to show his status.
"I wonder what Mr. Talbot's question is today? I want to challenge him."
Mandel Talbot stared at Cameron with a hint of admiration in his eyes.
Cameron was neither arrogant nor impatient. He was not conceited and did meet the criteria for Mandel Talbot to choose him.
Mandel Talbot smiled and said, "With your knowledge, this question should not be difficult for you."
"Teacher, please give the question."
Mandel Talbot signaled his assistant to give everyone a piece of white paper and a pen.
"All of you have only one minute to write the answer. You are not allowed to plagiarize or whisper to each other."
Everyone nodded. Since they were all literati, with Mandel Talbot's reminder, no one would do such a thing.
"Everyone knows that the history of the Northern and Southern Dynasties is quite unpopular, and very few people have studied it. May I ask why?" Mandel Talbot asked.
As soon as he finished speaking, most of the people lowered their heads and fell into deep thought.
This question was neither difficult nor easy.
In fact, it was more accurate to say that this question was a false proposition.
For example, everyone knew about the Tang Dynasty, the Song Dynasty, the Yuan Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty, and the Qing Dynasty, but did they know about the Xianbei Kingdom and the Roran Kingdom?
Everyone knew about the Qin Emperor and the Song Ancestor, but did they know about the Confucians and the Ke Bineng?
These were only relatively unpopular knowledge, but it was not that no one knew about them.
Mandel Talbot was playing a game of words with everyone.
Of course, this simple question could test the students' understanding and reaction to history.
Lachlan smiled faintly and wrote the answer in silence.
This question was very easy for him.
"Time is up. Everyone, please stop writing."
Then, the assistant put the white paper back on the table.
"Do you know the answer?"
"I don't know. I didn't write the answer."
"Me too. I can catch anything from Mr. Talbot's question, but I just can't write it down."
"I wonder if Cameron can answer it?"
Cameron's face was always filled with a confident smile. It was obvious that he was extremely confident in his answer.
Mandel Talbot only took a few minutes to read the papers. It was because there were too few people who had written down their answers.
There were only two correct answers.
However, Lachlan being able to answer the question surprised even Mandel Talbot.
"Cameron, your answer is completely correct. Please announce your answer."
Mandel Talbot looked at the curious crowd and said.
"Alright, Teacher."
Cameron pondered for a moment and explained, "The reason why the Northern and Southern Dynasties are so unpopular is because their history spans a very long period of time, and there are very few historical documents. The records are also very messy. If you want to grasp their history, you have to spend a lot of manpower and resources."
"Other than that, its value is not high. That's why it is considered unpopular."
After hearing Cameron's answer, everyone woke up from their daze.
In fact, who in the crowd was incompetent?
This question was not difficult for them, but it required a long period of thinking and research.
Cameron's ability to instantly think of the answer was truly admirable.
In an instant, applause filled the room.
Everyone was impressed by Cameron's answer.
"Cameron, you are great." Mandel Talbot nodded in approval.
Cameron was extremely excited.
Mandel Talbot was praising him in front of everyone. It was obvious that he was going to take him as his disciple.
Cameron immediately took advantage of the situation and changed his way of addressing him, "Thank you for your praise, Master."
Mandel Talbot shook his head, "Don't be in such a hurry. There is another person who has also written the correct answer."
Cameron was extremely surprised.
There was someone who could compare with him?
His expression became ugly, "Mr. Talbot, who is that person?"
"Who is it, Lachlan? Please step forward." Mandel Talbot looked around.
Lachlan slowly stood up, shocking everyone present.
No one had expected that the difficult question that no one could think of would be answered by a high school student.
"No wonder he could answer it. He is the top student in the entire city."
"It is no ordinary top student. He has scored 748 points, breaking the record of the city and even the province."
"So this high school student is actually so outstanding!"
Listening to the discussions of the crowd, even Mandel Talbot could not help but look at Lachlan carefully.
Lachlan's face was always wearing a faint smile. He was indifferent to the commotion. Even if tens of thousands of people were looking at him, he would not be intimidated. This kind of boldness was not something that ordinary people could compare with.
Lachlan was a good child.
A trace of passion could not help but flash across Mandel Talbot's eyes.
Cameron gritted his teeth and secretly hated him.
Lachlan was really a hindrance to him.
However, Cameron did not believe that Lachlan's knowledge of history was that deep. Instead, he thought that Lachlan had guessed it based on his luck.
After all, the question given by Mandel Talbot was not a difficult one. Lachlan would occasionally read history books and would find this question very common.
"Mr. Talbot, since both of us have answered correctly, I wonder how we should deal with this?"
Mandel Talbot was also in a dilemma.
This was because he had never thought of such a situation.
"Mr. Talbot, since that's the case, why don't you let me and Lachlan compete in a duel?"
Cameron snorted in his heart. Weren't you lucky?
Didn't you get the first place in the whole city?
I will let you reveal your true colors, and let you know how insignificant you are in front of history.
"That depends on what Lachlan wants," Mandel Talbot said.
Naturally, Lachlan was not afraid of Cameron. Moreover, Cameron had been targeting him time and time again. Lachlan felt extremely uncomfortable.
"Mr. Talbot, I agree."
"Alright, then the two of you will have a History quiz. Each of you will be given four questions. The one who can answer the most questions will be the winner."
Cameron said, "Mr. Talbot, Lachlan is still a high school student, and I'm his senior. It's inevitable that he would bully the weak."
"How about this? If I can't answer any of the four questions, I will lose!"
"Senior Brother Snyder is a man of integrity!"
"If that's the case, it will be fair to Lachlan as well. After all, Senior Brother Snyder's history background is incomparable to anyone else."
Lachlan shrugged his shoulders. He needed Cameron to be modest?
Lachlan said, "How about this, I will only give you one question. If you can answer it, I will lose!"
