C41 Playing Tricks
The Rock-type is renowned for its all-encompassing abilities. Creatures of this type boast formidable attack power and equally impressive defense. What sets them apart is their near-immortality compared to ordinary Demonic Beasts. They can fight indefinitely as long as their Demonic Core remains intact. In arena battles, they are virtually unbeatable, functioning like perpetual motion machines until their energy is depleted.
Their only weakness is their slow speed, but that's hardly an issue. A skilled Demonic Pet Master can easily compensate for this by teaching their Demonic Pet a speed-enhancing technique or equipping them with a Treasure Weapon designed to boost speed, effectively minimizing this disadvantage.
Chen Wu, convinced of the resources at Lin Diwen's disposal as the mayor's grandson, was certain that Lin would possess a Treasure Weapon and command more advanced secret techniques than Hu Wang, likely having access to at least a couple.
For the first time, Chen Wu's expression turned grave. The Rock-titan's power was formidable. Blood Rain's attacks might prove ineffective against it, and its aerial advantage seemed negligible in the face of the titan. The arena's confined space limited Blood Rain's maneuverability, and with the titan's massive size and long-range capabilities, a direct confrontation would be challenging. In terms of endurance, Blood Rain would tire long before the Rock-titan even began to show signs of fatigue. Among Demonic Pets of equal strength, Rock-types are the epitome of stamina.
Chen Wu's strategy was clear: target the Demonic Core. Although arena battles typically forbid the killing of an opponent's Demonic Pet, Rock-types are the exception. They are nearly impossible to kill; even if shattered, they can reassemble themselves. Only when separated from their Demonic Core do they lose energy and become inert stones. If the Core is detached from the body for more than three minutes, it results in the creature's permanent death.
Rock-type creatures have appeared in previous competitions, prompting the establishment of this specific rule. Without it, Rock-type Demonic Pets would not be permitted to participate in the selection battles.
"Blood Rain, ascend!"
Chen Wu maintained his strategy, securing air superiority first. There would always be an opportunity to triumph.
"Ha! It's our turn to shine. Let's teach that pitiful bird a lesson... Rock-titan, seize that bird!"
The colossal Rock-titan lumbered forward, the arena's earthy floor quaking beneath its steps. Designed for Earth-type Demonic Pets to leverage their strengths, the arena was a standard battleground made entirely of soil.
Yet, with each step, the Rock-titan left a massive crater, striding over two meters in a single bound. Its enormous arm swung at the Iron-feather Eagle.
"Blood Rain, Feather Arrow!"
Chen Wu was persistent in his efforts.
But the result was akin to tickling the Rock-titan; the flurry of feathers merely chipped away tiny fragments of rock, a mere itch to the behemoth.
The spectacle left the other competitors in awe.
Defeat seemed certain for Chen Wu. Against such a formidable Rock-titan, what weaknesses could be exploited? Any challenger facing it would be driven to despair, a testament to Lin Diwen, the esteemed Young Master Elder of the Lin Family.
Lin Diwen laughed wildly and taunted, "Rock-titan, Rock Cannon, shoot down that bothersome bird!"
He then cast a spell that enhanced the Rock-titan.
Low-level Speeding Up Art!
The Rock-titan's speed surged. It took aim at Blood Rain, and a fist-sized rock detached from its body, hurtling through the air with lethal force!
The might of a Grade 4 attack was enough to shatter the Iron-feather Eagle's bones and send it plummeting.
"Blood Rain, The Hawk Strike Force, evade!"
Chen Wu remained composed, knowing that haste would not serve him against such a formidable adversary. He needed to lull Lin Diwen into a false sense of security, allowing Blood Rain to cautiously close in on the Rock-titan without revealing their calculated approach.
Blood Rain and Chen Wu shared a telepathic bond. The eagle's training against formidable Demonic Beasts on Phoenix Nest Mountain for a week had honed its danger perception to an acute level. Even without Chen Wu's guidance, Blood Rain could nimbly navigate the threats.
"Chirp—"
Blood Rain had grown weary of being relentlessly pursued by Chen Wu's attacks. He was confident he could take down the formidable Rock-titan!
"Fire, Rock-titan, and make sure you hit the mark!"
Lin Diwen, accustomed to dispatching his opponents with ease, was exasperated by the constant, yet futile, cannon fire that drained energy. His impatience was evident even in his tone.
Despite being enhanced with the Speeding Up Art, the Rock-titan couldn't match Blood Rain's speed or agility.
Lin Diwen's frustration was compounded by his helplessness. He had never encountered an Iron-feather Eagle as agile as this one. Other Flight-type Demonic Pets might tire or falter under the Rock-titan's barrage, but this Iron-feather Eagle seemed inexhaustible, maintaining its swift pace. It would occasionally slow down, but only to draw fire and dodge with even greater ease.
"Now's the time, Blood Rain! Target the Rock-titan's lower back and unleash The Hawk Strike Force and Iron Claw to shatter that rock!"
Chen Wu had observed that the Rock-titan was particularly protective of its waist. Even when Blood Rain struck its head, the Rock-titan seemed unconcerned, leading Chen Wu to surmise that its Crystal Core was concealed there.
"Chirp!"
Blood Rain abruptly turned and plunged downward, the airflow around its body boosting its speed, and in a flash, it reached the Rock-titan's side.
The Rock-titan swung its massive hand down only to miss as Blood Rain nimbly dodged. Then, with a ferocious swipe of its claw, it struck the Rock-titan's lower back!
With a crack, the rock burst apart, revealing a corner of a fist-sized gray stone—the Demonic Core!
Lin Diwen was taken aback, realizing his defenses had been penetrated. In a panic, he commanded, "Rock-titan, drive it away!"
But once The Hawk Strike Force was activated, Blood Rain's speed surged, tripling and sustaining for three minutes. During this time, the Rock-titan's movements seemed painfully slow to Blood Rain, who easily evaded every attack. It circled the Rock-titan's waist like an annoying mosquito, periodically striking with its claws. The dislodged rocks needed time to reattach to the Rock-titan's body, but Blood Rain afforded it no such opportunity.
Blood Rain swiftly clutched the gray rock, and it might as well have seized Lin Diwen's heart, as he displayed a look of terror and cursed, "Damn it!"
But it was already too late for any words!
With Blood Rain tearing fiercely, the boulder shattered, and the Crystal Core was yanked out!
Shan Liyuan, watching from the stands, showed his disappointment, while the crowd below erupted in excited cheers, chanting Chen Wu's name!
The Rock-titan's massive palm, poised to strike, froze in place. Its body was rent asunder, crumbling into a heap of stones on the ground.
"My Rock-titan!" Lin Diwen cried out, disbelieving and distraught at his defeat.
The referee quickly declared, "The Rock-titan has lost its combat ability. Chen Wu is the victor. Lin Diwen, please select your next Demonic Pet."
Despite his distress, Lin Diwen could only glare at Chen Wu with gritted teeth and bellow, "Give me back my Crystal Core!"
Chen Wu simply shrugged.
Blood Rain arced the Crystal Core back to Lin Diwen, who, abandoning all decorum, scrambled to catch it like a dog pouncing on its meal. He then rushed to place it atop the rubble and began reciting a spell. If more than three minutes passed, the Rock-titan would be truly done for.
