C50 Escape from Death
The Purple Flame Lion King had successfully awakened, and Chen Wu immediately felt that the ten Evolution Points were well spent!
Nothing mattered more than his life. You pesky lion, it's all on you now!
Upon awakening, the Purple Flame Lion King found itself suspended mid-air, held captive by a Tree-demon it knew all too well. Rage consumed it, knowing it was powerless against this formidable foe!
Its inability to defeat the stronger Tree-demon didn't mean it feared it, though!
The fiery might was a bane to Plant-types. Even if it couldn't slay the Tree-demon, it could still make it suffer. Usually, it steered clear of this neighbor, but it hadn't anticipated that the cursed Tree-demon would seize its moment of weakness to try and devour it!
This was unacceptable!
With a thunderous roar, the Purple Flame Lion King's fury resonated through the woods, awakening many Demonic Beasts that had been sedated by the Tree-demon. Realizing their predicament, they thrashed in anger, causing the vines to quiver!
With a hiss, the Purple Flame Lion King was the first to break free. The Primary Healing Spring couldn't fully mend its wounds, but it did revive him from the stupor and restored some of his strength. Purple flames erupted across its body, incinerating the binding vines. The robust creature plummeted to the ground, but as a Grade 7 Demonic Beast, the fall was inconsequential. Its feline instincts kicked in, allowing it to tuck and roll in mid-air, dissipating the impact, and it landed somewhat unsteadily.
The Thousand Vine Ghost Tree, realizing its prey had fled, lashed out with dozens of vines from all directions at the Purple Flame Lion King, further fueling the lion's battle rage!
Unflinchingly, it shattered each vine with a swipe of its paw!
To the Ghost Tree, the vines were as crucial as limbs, and the damage inflicted sent it into a frenzy. In response, it whipped hundreds of vines into a dense web, attempting to ensnare the Purple Flame Lion King once more. But the lion, ablaze with surging flames, unleashed a Flame Crack Claw, tearing through the onslaught of vines with ease!
"Great work, Lion King!"
As the Purple Flame Lion King drew the majority of the fire and attention from the Thousand Vine Ghost Tree, Chen Wu quickly summoned Blood Rain. The moment Blood Rain appeared in the sky, its Iron Claw seized Chen Wu, while another claw latched onto the vines that were binding him and tore them fiercely!
In a flash, the vines were shredded, and Chen Wu was securely held by the collar, floating alongside Blood Rain in the air.
Chen Wu chuckled heartily, "Blood Rain, let's get out of here!"
Blood Rain, telepathically in sync with Chen Wu, could sense the sheer terror of the vine-covered tree before them, which filled it with dread. It began to frantically beat its wings, darting toward the distant thickets!
The Thousand Vine Ghost Tree was enraged as another prey slipped away unexpectedly. The massive trunk swayed, and suddenly, over two hundred vines shot out, rapidly blocking Blood Rain's escape route. Simultaneously, dozens of vines lashed out from behind, flinging Blood Rain and Chen Wu through the air!
Mid-flight, Chen Wu coughed up a large clot of blood, his ribs shattered.
Blood Rain was in even more agony, having sustained the brunt of the damage. One of its wings was broken, and it tumbled with Chen Wu into the underbrush afar.
Chen Wu's face contorted with pain; his entire body ached intensely, feeling incredibly tender. Blood Rain, disheveled and bloodied, lay weakly beside him, blood dripping from its wings. Chen Wu, alarmed by the severity of Blood Rain's injuries—the worst it had ever suffered—hastily propped himself up. He had never been so battered before, nearly losing his life!
"Blood Rain, stay with me!"
In that moment, Chen Wu disregarded any concern for Evolution Points. He redeemed two Low-level Healing Pills and a Primary Healing Spring from the marketplace without hesitation. He tossed a pill, resembling a chunk of meat, into Blood Rain's mouth, then immediately administered the rejuvenating effects of the Primary Healing Spring.
The mist from the Healing Spring settled on Blood Rain, significantly healing its wounds. The broken bones in its wings began to mend swiftly, but time was running out. In the distance, dozens more vines launched an assault.
Chen Wu had no choice but to cast The Prison of Land Light, creating an earthen-hued cage around himself and Blood Rain, as the Power of the Earth flowed into it without end.
The vines lashed against the light barrier to no avail. They wouldn't breach the defense unless Chen Wu's Spiritual Energy was depleted.
Despite his increasingly pallid complexion, Chen Wu pressed on, exchanging for another Healing Spring to further bolster Blood Rain's healing.
Within two minutes, Blood Rain's bones had nearly knitted back together, and it could weakly flap its wings.
"Chirp!"
Blood Rain's eyes conveyed urgency, one wing protectively covering Chen Wu, a gesture of concern and a display of its fury toward the Tree-demon responsible for its plight.
"Blood Rain, can you fly?"
"Chirp!"
"Good, let's make a quick escape!"
Following another barrage from the vines, Chen Wu swiftly deactivated The Prison Of Land Light and collapsed onto Blood Rain's back. With a resounding cry, Blood Rain beat its wings in anger and determination, taking to the skies. A whirlwind formed, and with the aid of Wind Wings, it ascended even faster, using the air currents to its advantage before flying off without looking back.
The Thousand Vine Ghost Tree's tendrils, no matter how long, couldn't stretch beyond a hundred meters. Once they were more than two hundred meters away, they were absolutely safe!
Several vines struck Blood Rain's shoulders with force, nearly causing the Iron-feather Eagle to plummet. But Blood Rain persevered, continuing its strenuous flight.
At last, it broke free from the encirclement, leaving behind the wild dance of dozens of vines and their futile pursuit. They retracted, unable to bridge the distance, and the prey slipped away.
From high above, a weakened Chen Wu caught a glimpse of massive flames erupting below. Clearly, the Purple Flame Lion King was going all out in a vengeful battle against the Thousand Vine Ghost Tree. The fire element was a bane to the Ghost Tree, which had focused most of its energy on the Purple Flame Lion King, allowing Chen Wu and Blood Rain, the two "little shrimps," to make their daring escape.
Blood Rain was at the brink of exhaustion. Driven by its unwavering concern for its master's safety, it ignored its torn wounds and frantically beat its wings. Without this determination, it likely wouldn't have had the strength to stir.
Having managed to fly only about three hundred meters, Blood Rain gradually descended, eventually coming to rest on a vast, empty plain. It lay there, powerless, its massive wings unfurled to reveal the fresh bloodstains from its reopened wounds.
Chen Wu was in excruciating pain as well. He swiftly retrieved a Healing Pill from his Spatial Ring and took it, then promptly bandaged Blood Rain's injuries. He followed up by purchasing a Healing Spring to purify Blood Rain before returning it to the Demonic Pet Space.
The ordeal had been perilously close to disaster; Chen Wu had nearly not made it back.
Blood Rain would need at least three days to heal, and Chen Wu was in a similar state. However, having been through Hu Liang's machinations, he no longer dared to linger alone in desolate areas. With Hu Liang having lost a Demonic Pet, there was no telling how he might crazily retaliate. Thus, for his own safety and that of Chen Family Village, Chen Wu resolved to stay put for the next few days, opting to remain safely at home until it was time to head to Flame City.
