C49 Wei Lulin Was Furious(part II)
After Wei Zhi gave a brief recount of the recent events, an enraged Wei Lulin couldn't help but exclaim, "Foolishness."
The incident was straightforward. Half an hour earlier, Wei Luchong, along with the Wei's disciples, had an unexpected encounter with Jiaang Que and his group.
Had Wei Lulin or Wei Junyu been in charge, their immediate response upon encountering Jiaang Que and his followers would have been to turn tail and make a beeline for the center.
Whether considering the top warriors or overall strength, the Wei family was at a disadvantage compared to the Jiaang family. This was mainly because the Wei family's second and third strongest members had departed from the group early on, leaving them in a weakened state.
On the other hand, all of the Jiaang family's disciples, aside from Jiaang Que, were present, bolstering their strength.
At their peak power, the situation took an unexpected turn. Instead of retreating upon meeting Wei Luchong, they provocatively challenged Jiaang Que, intent on settling who was the second mightiest in Yao Country.
Had Xie Jutong been the challenger, the strategy might have been sound. Given his arrogance, he would have engaged in an honorable duel without resorting to underhanded tactics.
But the cunning Jiaang Que would never commit such a fatal error just for the sake of reputation.
Events unfolded precisely as Wei Lulin had anticipated. Though Jiaang Que accepted Wei Luchong's challenge with apparent eagerness, he would swiftly command all of the Jiaang's Disciples to join the fray at the critical moment, aiming to ambush Wei Luchong and his companions.
Three of the Wei family's disciples were killed on the spot, and another was severely injured. Realizing the dire situation, Wei Luchong led the rest in a hasty retreat.
"Which direction did they retreat to?" Wei Lulin asked urgently, acutely aware of the power disparity between the two families.
The Jiaang family's might was overwhelming, and with the deep-seated enmity that had built up over more than a dozen generations, any further delay could mean death for all the Wei's disciples, except possibly for Wei Luchong.
"They headed off that way," Wei Zhi indicated, laboriously lifting his hand to point out the direction.
"I see you're still able to move. Here, take some of this healing medicine," Wei Lulin said as he tossed a few bottles of medicine he had acquired from other warriors. He gave a quick explanation before accelerating and dashing ahead.
Wei Zhi watched Wei Lulin's retreating figure, particularly struck by his swift, wind-like speed. He was astonished, wondering to himself, "Since when did the Wei family have such a skilled member?"
Ignoring the healing medicine scattered on the ground, Wei Zhi's gaze lingered on the familiar figure. He racked his brain, trying to recall everyone he knew, when a chilling possibility dawned on him. "Could it be him?"
Thanks to Wei Zhi's guidance, Wei Lulin, moving at top speed, soon noticed bodies appearing sporadically along the road. Among the dead were both Wei's disciples and those of the Jiaang family, with the Wei's disciples being in greater number.
Confronted with this grim scene, Wei Lulin felt a surge of urgency. His speed, already impressive due to his mastery of the footwork martial skill, seemed on the cusp of a breakthrough under the weight of his anxiety.
Martial skills, whether Beginning Rank, Middle Rank, or High Rank, each had four levels of mastery: Beginning, Small Completion, Great Completion, and Perfection.
Wei Lulin's footwork martial skill, a Middle Rank Martial Skill, had previously been just within his grasp at the Beginning level. Now, he was on the verge of advancing to Small Completion.
As Wei Luchong and Jiaang Que fought and retreated, their pace was steady but unhurried. Three minutes later, Wei Lulin picked up the faint sounds of combat to his left.
Picking up his pace once more, Wei Lulin covered another kilometer and then came upon the group engaged in battle.
The Wei family had sent a sizable contingent to the Hunting Competition—fifty-two members in total. Excluding Wei Lulin, Wei Tingxuan had taken four people, Wei Junyu had taken seven, leaving Wei Luchong responsible for thirty-eight.
Now, only seven of Wei's disciples were left fighting, eight if you included Wei Luchong himself.
The Wei family had suffered the loss of twenty-nine members, marking this as their most severe loss in over a decade. What Wei Lulin didn't know was that Wei Tingxuan, the second-ranked member of the Wei family, had also fallen to Jiaang Que.
Confronted with such devastating losses, Wei Lulin felt rage for the first time, an uncontrollable killing intent rising within him. Drawing his steel blade, he bellowed, "Kill!" and charged into the fray.
He executed the Army Obliteration technique, leaving a trail of corpses in his wake. Despite his blade technique not being ideally suited for this kind of combat, Wei Lulin's strength had reached the peak of the Qi Refining Stage Level Seven. The strongest among the Jiaang family was merely at the peak of Level Six. With the element of surprise on his side, the Jiaang's Disciples stood no chance against him.
In his wrathful assault, Wei Lulin claimed the lives of seven Jiaang's Disciples and left three others gravely wounded by the residual force of his Blade Style. His formidable attack not only left the Jiaang's Disciples frozen in shock but also caused the Wei's disciples, who were under attack, to stand motionless.
Dissatisfied with this lapse in focus, Wei Lulin recognized that distraction in battle was a sign of immaturity, and in a life-or-death struggle, it was tantamount to courting death. He resolved to address this issue with the Patriarch upon his return.
Indeed, Wei Lulin himself was taken aback. At the peak of Qi Refining Stage Level Four, his ability to effortlessly slay seven of the Jiaang's elite and severely injure three others would astonish any onlooker.
While the Wei's disciples and Jiaang's Disciples remained stunned, Wei Lulin wasted no time. Landing from his attack, he immediately executed a Point Kill technique, eliminating the Jiaang family's strongest expert.
It was only then that the dazed Jiaang's Disciples snapped to attention. Witnessing the eight fallen experts and their three severely wounded comrades, they charged at Wei Lulin in a fury. Wei Lulin watched them approach with a cold laugh, blade in hand, ready to meet their charge.
Their strength did not necessitate his full power, but fueled by anger at the heavy casualties among the Wei's disciples, he no longer held back. Unleashing his full might, Wei Lulin, with his Basic Blade Technique and Footwork Martial Skill, struck down another adversary with each blow.
When Wei Lulin first entered the fray, he deliberately targeted the Jiaang family's strongest members, swiftly eliminating three Qi Refining Stage Level Six experts. Now, only one such expert remained.
But under the relentless assault of Wei Lulin's Coiling Style blade technique, this last expert couldn't hold on for more than a few seconds before being cleaved in two by the steel blade.
Forty seconds.
In a mere forty seconds, nearly forty Jiaang's Disciples had been reduced to just four at the Qi Refining Stage Level Four. As for the three gravely wounded disciples lying on the ground, Wei Lulin had spared them; it was the Wei's disciples, who had suffered great losses, that had finished them off.
Wei Lulin hadn't intentionally spared the wounded due to mercy; their strength was simply too insignificant to affect the battle. Their inability to contribute to the siege on Wei Lulin was the very reason they had managed to survive.
The four remaining Jiaang's Disciples, facing seven of the Wei's disciples poised for a desperate fight, turned deathly pale.
Their luck held, however, as their reinforcements arrived just in time, preventing the Wei's disciples from launching an immediate attack.
