C11 Forgetting to Farm

Yan Cheng closed his eyes for a brief rest. Moments later, he opened them with a resolve: "Since I'm being targeted, I'll head to the big city. There's an abundance of resources there, and if I land quickly enough when I parachute, I might still snag a gun."

With this strategy in mind, Yan Cheng launched into another round.

The flight path of the plane stretched from the bottom left to the top right, and Yan Cheng made a beeline for a major urban center. He plunged down and dove straight into a building.

This time, he was the first to touch down inside a building. He hurried inside and found a large machete, which he swiftly picked up before moving on to search for more supplies in another room.

"Your sister killed you with an AK47!"

Yan Cheng reassured himself, "At least I have a machete. If it weren't for my rotten luck, I'd have a gun by now. System, show me what I can exchange."

A list of exchangeable items appeared in his mind: one machete, fifteen parachutes.

"Fifteen parachutes! System, are you making fun of me? Fifteen jumps for just one machete?" Yan Cheng fumed inwardly.

The system remained silent, its silence seeming to affirm, "Isn't that the case?"

With a resigned sigh, Yan Cheng thought, "I'll take a break for now. I'll pick this up again when it's my turn to be on duty."

Much later, Yan Cheng was gently shaken awake, as if it were the apocalypse. He snapped to attention and asked, "What's going on?"

"It's your turn for watch duty," Lang Zhe whispered.

"Okay, go get some rest," Yan Cheng replied, stretching and rubbing his face.

Lang Zhe gave a thumbs-up and settled back down.

Yan Cheng tidied himself up and headed to the second floor. They had previously fashioned several peepholes there, which were hard to spot from the outside but allowed a clear view from within.

Peering through the holes, Yan Cheng saw that all was quiet, with no signs of trouble.

He then sat down to play his game, intent on parachuting into the big city. After several aerial deaths, he finally discovered a pistol with 90 bullets and a shotgun with 30 bullets in one of the rooms.

Before he could feel a rush of excitement, he was taken out by people who burst in from the outside. He managed to fire off a couple of shots in desperation.

"I've finally got a gun, and a shotgun at that!" Yan Cheng exclaimed with joy. The shotgun, with its formidable firepower, was an efficient weapon for close-quarters combat.

"System, how much energy do I have now?"

"39.4."

"Why am I down 0.1?" Yan Cheng asked, puzzled.

"Doesn't the phone require energy to run?" the system retorted.

"Fine, then materialize a pistol for me (5 points), a set of ammunition (10 points), and that machete (1 point)!" Yan Cheng requested.

"Okay, that will be 16 points of energy in total. You'll have 23.4 points remaining," the system responded.

Yan Cheng was thrilled to see the pistol and ammunition materialize before him. He now had the means to defend himself and the pistol could serve as a deterrent to humans.

"Still, I shouldn't use the pistol unless absolutely necessary. It's too loud. Next time I'm in the game, I'll need to find a silencer for it," Yan Cheng mused as he secured the pistol on his person and picked up the machete.

"This is pretty heavy!" he remarked. "With this handy tool, I'll have an easier time taking down zombies from now on!"

With this thought, Yan Cheng stood up and did another sweep of the area. Finding nothing amiss, he went back to his gaming.

He continued this routine, standing up to check his surroundings after each game session. By dawn, Yan Cheng had made 20 jumps, taking breaks in between to avoid dizziness.

At six in the morning, Yan Cheng reviewed the items he could exchange:

"Two shotguns, with three sets of bullets each."

"One pistol, with four sets of bullets."

"One M16A4, with three sets of bullets."

"One Frag Grenade."

"Two sets of bandages."

Yan Cheng eyed the M16A4 and couldn't help but drool a little. He had been fortunate to find such a valuable resource just as he entered the house. In the game, rifles like the M16A4 were more sought after than pistols and shotguns.

Yan Cheng didn't have much energy left, so whatever he might exchange for could end up being redundant. He decided to hold off for now.

Stretching languidly, Yan Cheng gazed outside as dawn broke. He murmured to himself, "Am I missing something?"

"The farm!" The system couldn't resist prompting him.

Slapping his forehead, Yan Cheng exclaimed, "Of course, I forgot about farming! What's the situation with the farm right now?"

"It's all set for you to upgrade your farmhouse!" the system responded.

"Why didn't you remind me sooner?" Yan Cheng inquired. Once his experience bar was maxed out, he wouldn't gain any more experience from farming. Nevertheless, he could still sell his crops to the system and earn in-game gold coins. These coins could be used for upgrades, purchasing seeds, fruit trees, livestock, and much more.
