C11 Something Big Has Happened!
When everyone noticed Xu Jin tucked away in a corner by herself, they approached to offer her comfort. Yet, Xu Jin's mood appeared quite somber, and she remained silent despite the company.
Lee Mu found himself feeling awkward in the midst of this. Although he wasn't directly involved, he felt a sense of responsibility for Xu Jin's predicament. After all, as a true gentleman, how could he stand by without offering solace to a distressed young woman?
With this in mind, Lee Mu approached Xu Jin with a smile. But before he could utter a word, a figure stepped briskly in front of him, casting a glance his way. Looking up, Lee Mu was met with the gaze of none other than Jia Zhengjing.
Lee Mu's brow furrowed at the sight of Jia Zhengjing. He seemed untrustworthy, and the tone he used with Xu Jin suggested he might harbor a secret affection for her.
Lee Mu's intuition was spot on. It was common knowledge at KM Hospital that Jia Zhengjing was smitten with Xu Jin, who had always been wary of him, preventing any advances.
"Kid, are you the test subject?"
Lee Mu bristled at the term "test subject." He shot Jia Zhengjing a cold look and chose to ignore him.
To Lee Mu, Jia Zhengjing was clearly just trying to make his presence felt. Failing to gain Xu Jin's affection, he redirected his efforts towards Lee Mu, who was not interested in entertaining him.
Were it not for Jia Zhengjing's position as the director of KM Hospital, Lee Mu would have confronted him then and there. It seemed Xu Jin was correct; KM Hospital was not a place for someone like him.
"You little punk, you..."
"Director Jia, this is the young man with exceptional medical talent I've mentioned to you..."
Jia Zhengjing was on the verge of lashing out when Xu Jin stepped forward, gesturing towards Lee Mu. Had she not intervened, Jia Zhengjing's anger might have escalated. But her words only served to fuel his fury.
Originally, he had merely suspected that Xu Jin harbored feelings for Lee Mu, but he was taken aback by the extent of her sacrifices for the young man. Now, she had the audacity to introduce him for a job right in front of him.
"Ms. Xu, what are you implying? Surely you're not suggesting he come work at our KM Hospital? Let me make myself clear: KM Hospital isn't a place where just anyone can waltz in."
Jia Zhengjing scrutinized Lee Mu before continuing, "Regarding the high talent you mentioned, I'll need to see some proof. If he doesn't meet my standards, not even begging will change my mind."
"Damn..."
Lee Mu hadn't anticipated Jia Zhengjing's escalating demands and struggled to keep his temper in check.
Jia Zhengjing, noticing Lee Mu's frustration, wore a slight smile. He was intentionally riling up the young man, confident that Lee Mu wouldn't dare retaliate.
"Lee Mu, stay calm..."
"Move aside, everyone, give some space!"
Xu Jin's attempt to calm Lee Mu was interrupted by a sudden commotion outside. A cacophony of sounds ensued, reminiscent of a bustling marketplace.
Curiosity piqued, everyone stretched to peer outside, where a crowd had gathered in the corridor, and several luxury cars were parked beneath the hospital.
"What's happening? Is KM Hospital hosting a celebrity concert?"
Lee Mu found the situation odd. Peering through the conference room door, he spotted journalists making their way inside.
Simultaneously, a middle-aged doctor in his fifties entered the room and surveyed the group, "What are you all doing standing around? There's urgent work to be done!"
This doctor, an attending physician in the inpatient department, prompted everyone to follow him. One curious individual leaned in and whispered, "Dr. Liu, what's the commotion about? It's quite a mess out there. Is it a celebrity visit?"
Dr. Liu glanced outside and hushed the inquirer, "Quiet, lad, what do you know? Keep it down, will you? The person who's just arrived is a VIP from Prifield, the head of the Ouyang family, and he's currently in our hospital. The orders are clear: we must save this man today, or we'll all be in deep trouble!"
When Dr. Liu finished his statement, everyone was taken aback. It was no wonder there was such commotion outside; the Ouyang family was no ordinary clan. They were a renowned presence throughout Prifield, with their patriarch, Ouyang Chuixue, having established the Donghai Group. Rumor had it his assets were worth over ten billion.
Yet, it was puzzling why the head of the Donghai Group would choose to seek treatment at KM Hospital. While KM Hospital had a good reputation in Prifield, the First People's Hospital was still considered the best in the city.
"Is it just an illness? Just come in for treatment. What's with all the reporters and ambulances causing such a stir? Are they actually helping?"
Lee Mu couldn't resist making a sarcastic comment, which only earned him disdainful looks from the others. To them, Lee Mu was nothing more than a greenhorn. He was clueless about the significance of Ouyang Chuixue's status, which meant that his every action was closely watched due to its potential impact on the family's future wealth distribution.
Dr. Liu fixed Lee Mu with a piercing glare and warned, "Young man, you'd better watch your words. Dean Chen has already taken note of you. Keep your head down and avoid any further trouble, or nobody will be able to save you."
Lee Mu just smirked at the warning. He wasn't interested in squabbling with them, but since he intended to work at KM Hospital, he knew he had to be more discreet. There's truth to the saying that you have to bow your head when living under someone else's roof, and Lee Mu was no exception.
"Enough, enough. Don't just stand around. If Dean Chen catches you loafing, you'll be the ones to suffer. Get moving and be ready to jump into action at a moment's notice. Remember, saving lives is our sacred duty as doctors. Now's your chance to really make a difference."
With that, Dr. Liu strode off, and the others quickly snapped into action, bustling about. Xu Jin approached Lee Mu, gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder, and advised, "I'm off to work. Stay out of trouble here. I'll keep you updated about the job. Just remember, the waters run deep here, and there are some you simply cannot afford to cross."
