C12 Ouyang Duoduo
After Xu Jin left, Lee Mu found himself without much to do amidst the bustling crowd. He stroked his chin thoughtfully and decided to step outside as well.
KM Hospital was abuzz with more activity than usual, signaling that Ouyang Chuixue was no ordinary patient. It made sense, considering that several hospitals in Prifield were on par with KM Hospital. A standout performance in treating Ouyang Chuixue could serve as better publicity than any paid TV advertisement. With the backing of such a financial powerhouse, KM Hospital's future ascent was all but guaranteed, and establishing a strong foothold in Prifield seemed imminent.
With such high stakes, everyone at the hospital, from the director to the nurses, the doctors, and even the janitorial staff, was singularly focused and brimming with determination.
"Ladies and gentlemen!"
At that moment, Lee Mu's attention was caught by a woman's voice. He furrowed his brow and looked toward the source, finding it oddly familiar yet unable to place it.
"Thank you all for your dedication," the woman spoke. "I am Ouyang Duoduo. My father is gravely ill and under your care. Whoever can save his life, I assure you, will receive a most generous reward from me."
Her announcement sent ripples of excitement throughout the hospital. Lee Mu took a closer look at the speaker. She was a young woman, around his age, and he recognized her. She was a fellow student at Usiross University's medical college. Lee Mu had seen her a few times at student council meetings but had not realized the significance of her identity until now.
The rest of the hospital staff buzzed with conversation after hearing Ouyang Duoduo's offer. The lower-level employees, in particular, gazed at her with starry-eyed admiration, whispering among themselves, "Wow, who would have thought that Mr. Ouyang's daughter would be so stunning? If only I could be the one to save Ouyang Chuixue. I wouldn't even need a hefty reward; just the honor of having Ouyang Duoduo's hand in marriage would be enough!"
"Give it up, you're like a toad lusting after a swan's flesh. Even setting aside whether she'd be willing to marry you, could you even cure Ouyang Chuixue's illness? At KM Hospital, since when do you have a say in medical matters?"
"Exactly. Have you seen how beautiful Miss Ouyang is? How could she ever be interested in a poor nobody like you? She might fancy that annoying kid, but you're definitely not in the running!"
While speaking, his gaze drifted towards Lee Mu, making it clear that he was the "annoying kid" in question. However, Lee Mu remained unfazed, showing no interest in their petty talk.
His real interest lay with Miss Ouyang. Lee Mu's fascination with her wasn't solely because of her beauty; there was also a score to settle between them.
Lee Mu vividly remembered encountering Ouyang Duoduo at an academic forum at Usiross University. She was confidently speaking on stage when he challenged her viewpoint, only to receive an eye roll in response. Since that incident, the wealthy heirs vying for Ouyang Duoduo's attention ridiculed Lee Mu at every turn, branding him a manipulative man trying to catch her eye.
Despite never having a conversation with Ouyang Duoduo, Lee Mu had a hunch their paths would cross again, and he hadn't expected the opportunity to arise so soon.
At that moment, a group of KM Hospital doctors had congregated at the emergency room entrance, engaged in a heated debate on how to save Ouyang Chuixue.
"Ahem, in my opinion, the fact that Old Mr. Ouyang trusts KM Hospital shows we have the capability. We must commit fully to this and cannot afford to disappoint him," a doctor in his forties, clad in a white coat, opined.
No sooner had he finished than he was met with eye rolls from the others, who coldly retorted, "Isn't that stating the obvious? How about some practical suggestions? We all know we have to give it our all, but do you have any idea how to actually save him?"
"Everyone claims they'll give it their all, but talk is cheap. If you ask me, we need to prioritize Old Mr. Ouyang's safety. Specifically, we should cryogenically freeze his body. That way, we'll buy ourselves enough time to figure out a solution..."
"No, that's too risky. What if he never wakes up? Then what? Plus, let's not forget Old Mr. Ouyang's extensive network. If we delay even a day, he might seek help elsewhere, and we'll have missed our chance!"
"I've taken a look at Old Mr. Ouyang's condition. It seems to be a case of declining heart rate. All we need to do is perform a heart transplant and bypass surgery, and he should be fine."
Upon hearing this, Dean Chen shot the speaker a withering look and said icily, "Can you not trivialize a heart transplant? Old Mr. Ouyang is currently unconscious. Do you really think he can endure such an ordeal?"
"Then... what do we do?"
"What do we do? We save his life, that's what. If he can just get through today, that's a testament to our capability. And if he doesn't make it, it's not on us!"
...
The doctors at KM Hospital were tirelessly debating strategies, but sadly, none could offer a viable suggestion. This left Ouyang Duoduo, waiting anxiously at the emergency room door, flushed with frustration. She was ordinarily quite aloof, her family's substantial wealth and her own beauty and poise setting her apart. She rarely gave others the time of day.
Had her father not faced such a dire emergency, she wouldn't be caught dead spending time with these doctors. But now, she was out of options. Her father had been brought to KM Hospital simply because it was the closest to where he collapsed. Had she known it was staffed by incompetents, Ouyang Duoduo wouldn't have bothered.
"Do you even have the competence to handle this? If you can't propose a viable plan within the next minute, I'll have my father transferred immediately. And then..."
At this point, Ouyang Duoduo paused and surveyed the room. The crowd fell silent, clearly recognizing the gravity of her anger.
