C7 Help Us

Faang Tang was unfazed by the stares of those around her as she dialed the number that had just texted her.

This was a habit ingrained in her from a young age. Given Faang Jicong's prominent status in Tubert, her life was destined to be extraordinary. She might have felt insecure about her weight, but she would never let that show.

The moment Lee Mu's phone rang, Faang Tang whirled around and caught sight of Xu Jin sitting across from him. Her nearsightedness meant she couldn't see clearly until she was close.

"Sister Xu Jin?" Faang Tang's face lit up with a surprised smile, the kind one has when bumping into an old friend on the street.

A young girl's smile is the most radiant, and it had nothing to do with conventional standards of beauty. It was the unique charm of youth.

"It's been a while, Tang Tang," Xu Jin said, standing up to give Faang Tang's hand a gentle squeeze.

Lee Mu ended the call.

"Lee Mu, was that you calling me? How come you're with Sister Xu Jin?" Faang Tang asked cheerfully. As a Usiross University student, she was well-acquainted with Lee Mu. Not only were they both top students at the university, but they had also participated in numerous charity events together. Plus, half of her dorm mates were avid fans of Lee Mu.

Xu Jin signaled for the waiter to bring another chair.

"Hello, Faang Tang," Lee Mu greeted with a smile. "I've asked Ms. Xu to assist me with some inquiries about an internship."

"An internship already? But you're just a sophomore, aren't you?" Faang Tang asked, puzzled.

"Hehe, I don't have the luxury you wealthy folks do. I need to earn money to support my family," Lee Mu replied, still smiling.

Faang Tang frowned slightly, mistaking Lee Mu's comment for sarcasm. She was about to take offense when Xu Jin intervened.

"Tang Tang, he's being sincere. Do you know if your dad has any suitable job openings?"

"There are jobs, but whether they're suitable or not, I can't say," Faang Tang replied. Her father was in the wig business, which was worlds apart from Lee Mu's field of traditional medicine and technology.

"Ms. Xu, there's no need to go out of your way. I'm actually interested in KM Hospital. If you can help, I'd be grateful. If not, I'll seek assistance elsewhere."

"You..."

Xu Jin had intended to ask Fang Tang some more questions, but instead, she was met with Lee Mu's response, which left her feeling slightly irritated. Was this young man actually trying to plead with her?

She shook off the annoyance. As an expert and physician at KM Hospital, she shouldn't be getting upset over some kid who hadn't even graduated yet.

"Hehe!"

Just then, Fang Tang, who had been quiet until now, suddenly burst into laughter.

Xu Jin gave Fang Tang a look and pouted, "What's so funny, young lady?"

"Sister Xu Jin, you used to be so formidable. Why do you seem to lose your edge around Lee Mu? Don't tell me you're..."

Fang Tang trailed off, but her insinuation was clear to everyone. Xu Jin decided it wasn't worth responding and instead focused her attention on Lee Mu.

"Since you're set on joining KM Hospital, let me give you a heads-up. It's a complex place, and with your kind of attitude, you might find it difficult to fit in."

"Sister Xu Jin, what are you saying? You'll be there, won't you? If anyone dares to mess with Lee Mu, they'll have to answer to you..."

"Little lady, that's enough."

Fang Tang was cut off by another eye roll from Xu Jin, prompting her to sheepishly stick out her tongue. Lee Mu, observing this exchange, felt somewhat perplexed. He hadn't known that Xu Jin and Fang Tang were acquainted. But the real surprise was seeing Fang Tang, a wealthy heiress who could have her way in Tubert, showing such deference to Xu Jin. It appeared Xu Jin's background was more complex than he had realized.

Half an hour later, the trio left Springtime. After the valet brought around the car, Xu Jin and Fang Tang briefly exchanged pleasantries before parting ways. As they departed, Fang Tang gave Lee Mu a parting glance. "Lee Mu, I really owe you one for today. I'll take you out for a meal sometime, just the two of us!"

Lee Mu nodded with a smile, offering no reply as he stepped into Xu Jin's car.

Truth be told, Lee Mu felt a tinge of sadness. Despite the satisfaction of seeing Bai Shanshan and Yang Jian in an awkward situation at Springtime, Bai Shanshan was still his girlfriend, or to be more precise, his former girlfriend.

"I never thought I, Lee Mu, a man's man, would be cuckolded. What a laughable situation..." Lee Mu said, shaking his head with a wry smile. Xu Jin, who was next to him, mistook his expression for thoughts of Fang Tang and warned him, "I'm warning you, don't get any ideas about Fang Tang. She's a dear friend of mine. If you dare to bully her..."

"Hehe, rest assured, I'm not interested in 'Little Fatty.'"

As he said this, Lee Mu gave Xu Jin a once-over. Perhaps it was the aftermath of a recent breakup, but his eyes seemed hazy, and he seemed to find an added allure in Xu Jin's presence.

"What... what are you staring at?"

Xu Jin felt Lee Mu's gaze on her like a predator eyeing its prey, sending shivers down her spine. Despite her usual aloof and assertive demeanor, she was still a woman, and the attention from this younger man stirred an unusual sense of nervousness within her.

"I... I'm telling you, you'd better watch yourself. Back in college, I was part of the Taekwondo club at Usiross University. I can handle three or five guys like you without breaking a sweat..."

Bang!

Xu Jin's words were cut off by a loud noise from beneath the car. An abrupt stop sent Lee Mu and Xu Jin lurching forward, nearly colliding with the windshield. Once they regained their composure, Lee Mu looked up to find they were on a sparsely populated stretch of road, with a series of obstacles laid out as if deliberately placed there.

"What on earth..."

Xu Jin, still reeling from the jolt, opened the car door and stepped out with Lee Mu, only then noticing the car's tires had blown out.

"Just my luck, to run into trouble just going out for a meal. I guess I should keep my distance from jinxed individuals in the future."

Xu Jin exhaled in frustration and reached for her phone to call for roadside assistance. That's when she spotted two cars approaching and hastily waved them down.

"Hey there, can you give us a hand?"

Fortunately, both cars came to a stop. But as their occupants got out, Lee Mu couldn't help but smile bitterly. This was no mere mishap; it was clearly trouble coming their way.

"Lee Mu, what are you standing around for? Come and help me out, quick! I still need to make a report at the hospital this afternoon, and we have less than an hour left."

Xu Jin was visibly anxious as she urged Lee Mu, who was standing beside her, to take action. She watched him slowly approach the two cars. When the doors swung open, seven or eight young men in black emerged, all of them tall and imposing. Lee Mu recognized the leader, the same guy in the flowery shirt he had given a thrashing to before.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk, kid, bet you didn't expect to see us again so soon!"

The man in the flowery shirt was still bandaged up, standing before Lee Mu with a limp and a smug look on his face. Seeing him like this, Lee Mu shook his head and remarked, "There's a saying, 'Once the wound heals, the pain is forgotten.' But it seems you're eager for another beating before your scars have even faded. That really boggles my mind."

"Hmph, you jerk. I wouldn't have even remembered if you hadn't mentioned it. Today, just to deal with you, I've brought in some professional toughs. They've got blood on their hands. To them, taking you out would be as easy as killing a chicken!"

With that, the man in the flowery shirt glanced back at his crew and commanded, "Brothers, no more dawdling. Get to it. You've got ten minutes to take him down. Mr. Dragon has already set up a spot for us at the Drunken Immortal Restaurant. Let's not keep him waiting."

As the men in black started to close in on Lee Mu, Xu Jin suddenly stepped in front of him and exclaimed, "Hey, hey, hey! What do you think you're doing? We live in a society governed by law. You can't just start a brawl in broad daylight!"

The man in the flowery shirt raised an eyebrow and gave Xu Jin a once-over, a sneer slowly spreading across his face.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Who would've thought a poor kid like you could land such a pretty and wealthy girlfriend? Well then, brothers, what are you waiting for? Take down this punk, and as for the lady, I'll handle her myself!"

As he uttered those words, the man in the floral shirt lunged at Xu Jin with a menacing snarl.
