C28 Divine Doctor Dong

With a swift motion, the woman's face turned ashen. She hastily instructed the housekeeper to shut the front door.

Madame Yurou was well aware of certain matters, but such things were never to be overheard by outsiders.

"My child, you must never utter such words again, do you understand?" Madame Yurou's voice was stern.

Lu Yu nodded in agreement, though inwardly, he remained unconvinced.

To him, it was merely a mundane realm, hardly worth his concern.

These earthly emperors might command great respect within their own domains, but to a cultivator, they were mere insects.

"Mother, has sister taken her rest? I've completed the medicine refinement," Lu Yu said, deftly steering the conversation in a new direction.

"You've finished the medicine?" Madame Yurou was taken aback. She had her doubts about her son's alchemical abilities.

Concerned for her daughter, Madame Yurou had summoned a physician while Lu Yu was occupied with his alchemy.

Yet, at her daughter Lu Lengshuang's insistence, they had waited until Lu Yu was done before deciding on a course of treatment.

"Mother, let Little Yu in," came Lu Lengshuang's voice from behind the curtain.

Entering the curtained area, Lu Yu found Lu Lengshuang lying weakly in bed, her complexion ghostly pale.

Upon seeing Lu Yu, her eyes dimmed, "Little Yu, don't worry if the medicine wasn't successfully refined. You're young; there's time to learn."

The medicine wasn't successful?

Lu Yu couldn't help but smile wryly to himself. He approached with a box of Golden Pills, surprised that his sister had so readily assumed his failure.

Lu Lengshuang's certainty only grew upon seeing the odd look on Lu Yu's face.

Her conclusion was not without reason. Typically, alchemists would spend weeks, if not months, perfecting their concoctions.

And yet, Lu Yu had emerged in merely an hour.

Besides, his youth and the sheer brilliance of his swordsmanship were already extraordinary. The notion of him mastering alchemy as well was almost beyond belief.

"Madam, Godly Doctor Dong has arrived," announced Zhong Bo from outside the door.

"Come on in!" urged Madame Yurou with haste.

The door swung open to reveal an elderly man, his face aglow with health. Dressed in a traditional physician's robe with a medicine box slung at his waist, he stepped inside with purpose. This was none other than the renowned Godly Doctor Dong from Longjing.

"Haha, after scouring countless prescriptions, I've finally found one that can swiftly neutralize the effects of the Bone Softening Powder. I've just finished brewing it—please, have the Eldest Miss take it immediately," boomed Doctor Dong, his voice resonant and confident.

Trailing behind him was a medical apprentice, cradling a steaming bowl of the freshly prepared remedy.

Madame Yurou's spirits lifted at the sight; Doctor Dong had indeed concocted the medicine. Previously, Lu Yu had assured her that Lu Lengshuang's affliction would gradually fade, but with the Bone Softening Powder's potency still unmitigated, she had been compelled, in her desperation, to seek out Longjing's famed healer.

"Ah, is this the Young Marquis?" Doctor Dong noted Lu Yu's presence.

"Doctor Dong, I've got my sister's treatment covered. You may return home; it's getting late, and Zhong Bo will arrange your transport," Lu Yu said.

Doctor Dong's brow creased with concern. "Young Marquis, the Bone Softening Powder is a matter of urgency. The dose your sister has taken seems quite substantial, and her recovery could prove exceedingly challenging. You mustn't conceal her condition."

Lu Yu shook his head gently. "Your concern is noted and appreciated, but I've already prepared the necessary medicine, so there's no need for a slow regimen with the concoction."

The apprentice couldn't suppress a snicker, earning a stern glance from Doctor Dong, which quickly wiped the smile off his face.

Doctor Dong, still frowning, said, "Young Marquis, I don't mean to overstep due to my age, but pill refining is no simple task. Even with my years, I've merely scratched the surface."

He had arrived already informed by the household servants of Lu Yu's intent to refine medicine. Despite maintaining a neutral facade, internally he was dismissive, finding it hard to believe that Lu Yu could successfully produce the medicine.

Observing that Lu Yu remained steadfast, Divine Doctor Dong persisted, "I understand the vigor of youth, yet the art of concocting medicine demands years of dedicated practice to truly master. There have been numerous instances where individuals hastily produced medicine, only to suffer fatal poisonings as a consequence. Young Marquis, I urge you to allow me to attend to the Eldest Miss without delay."
