C48 I Want That Pendant!

"What?!"

Meng Zhuyun was in disbelief. The mere mortal before her had no intention of rescuing her. She was curious about how he could control the dragon-pulse, but escaping the trap array was the urgent priority.

Lu Yu regarded Meng Zhuyun with an even tone, "If you lack sincerity, I see no reason to release you."

Meng Zhuyun seethed, her teeth clenched. A lady of the esteemed Profound Zhou Academy, she was courted by numerous talents in the Middle Land. Yet, this Southern Wasteland youth remained unfazed before her.

"What do you want as a sign of sincerity?" Meng Zhuyun demanded, her voice laced with fury.

Lu Yu's eyebrows lifted as he got straight to the point, "Got any treasures on you? Bring them out, and I might reconsider."

The audacity! Meng Zhuyun's gaze was laced with contempt and anger.

"Truly a mortal, so mercenary. Can't he see the value in forging ties with someone from the academy? A privilege many yearn for?" she thought, her stare cold and calculating.

But she was at his mercy, and she knew it. She'd bide her time; once free, he'd regret this.

With a sneer, Meng Zhuyun conceded, "Fine. But my treasures are on me, and you can't possibly take them."

Unperturbed, Lu Yu replied, "I control the dragon-pulse. It won't interfere with your magic treasures. Go ahead, take them out."

Meng Zhuyun's fist tightened, but she relented, extracting a long sword glowing with white light from her storage bag and tossing it out of the array.

True to Lu Yu's word, the array posed no obstacle to the sword.

Swoosh!

The sword landed in Lu Yu's grasp, prompting a slight furrow of his brow.

"How do you like it? This sword isn't half bad, right? With this blade, you'd be among the top warriors not just in any mortal realm, but even across the entire Southern Wasteland." Meng Zhuyun declared with a smug grin.

That was a magical artifact, a treasure akin to those from the heavens for mortals.

Lu Yu glanced at the sword, then shook his head and plunged it into the earth beside him.

"Is a mere high-quality magical artifact really befitting of your stature? Keep this up, and I'll take my leave," Lu Yu remarked coolly.

What!?

Meng Zhuyun's eyes went wide as she stared at the mortal youth before her.

She had chosen this long sword with great care. Though it was enveloped in an aura of immortality and its brilliance was dazzling, it was merely superficially impressive.

Yet, he had seen through its facade and discerned the true quality of the sword in an instant!

Feeling helpless, Meng Zhuyun tossed out another magical artifact.

This time it was a gourd, with a faint glow of fire flickering within.

But Lu Yu didn't even spare it a glance. He simply took it and set it down beside him.

"Just an ordinary magical artifact this time, its sole purpose being to light a fire," Lu Yu said, shaking his head.

Meng Zhuyun let out a cold snort and continued to throw out one treasure after another.

"A high-grade magical artifact, but it's flawed."

"A high-grade Energy Recovery Pill, but the quality is atrocious, with defects inside."

"You expect me to accept these Cultivation Methods, riddled with weaknesses?"

Lu Yu critiqued each item tossed his way, shaking his head in resignation.

Meng Zhuyun's anger flared, and with a burst of her haughty temper, she barked, "Don't get greedy. I have no more treasures to spare!"

When Lu Yu's gaze settled on the long sword in her grasp, Meng Zhuyun exclaimed in alarm, "That's my personal magical artifact; I can't give that to you!"

A smile crept onto Lu Yu's face as he pointed to the pendant around Meng Zhuyun's neck. "I'll take that pendant. Hand it over, and you're free to go."
