C49 Escape!
Meng Zhuyun stared at Lu Yu, incredulous. "You want this pendant?"
Lu Yu nodded affirmatively. "Yes, just hand it over to me."
Without much thought, Meng Zhuyun plucked the pendant from her neck and tossed it to Lu Yu.
Internally, she scoffed. She had pegged Lu Yu as a prodigious talent, capable of identifying all the treasures she had discarded.
Yet now, a sense of relief washed over Meng Zhuyun.
The youth before her, despite his arrogance, was merely human after all.
She surmised that his desire for the pendant stemmed from witnessing the Saint Ancient Item she had utilized earlier.
Meng Zhuyun derided herself silently. The pendant, now devoid of its purpose, was nothing more than a relic.
A Saint's Ancient Item was an artifact that an Ancient Scholarly Sage would typically carry.
Its prolonged proximity to the saints had imbued it with sentience and a vast reservoir of noble energy, lethal to Demonic Cultivators practicing dark arts.
But such a sacred artifact was a one-time use only.
Once its Qi of Righteousness was expended, it could not be replenished.
"All these treasures fail to catch your eye, yet you pine for a Saint's Ancient Item that has lost its power. Truly, you are but a mortal!" Meng Zhuyun thought, as she relinquished the pendant without a hint of regret.
Little did she know what was going through Lu Yu's mind.
"There's still a trace of the Law within. It seems the pendant's former owner must have ascended to the Supreme Realm," Lu Yu murmured to himself.
At the Daolord level, one could discern the Laws of countless realms with clarity.
Lu Yu's soul, though far from its zenith, capturing only a fraction of its full potential, had detected a subtle shift within the pendant.
"It's time for you to emerge," Lu Yu spoke calmly.
Meng Zhuyun blinked in confusion. "Aren't you going to take control of the dragon-pulse and dismantle the formation?"
At that moment, Lu Yu's lips curved into a smile. "The cardioverter has perished. The formation serves no purpose now. I suspect it will dissipate on its own within the next couple of hours."
What!?
Meng Zhuyun, as though intent on confirming Lu Yu's claim, delicately extended her hand and cautiously grazed the edge of the grand formation. To her astonishment, her finger slipped through without any resistance.
Emerging from the grand formation completely unharmed, Meng Zhuyun faced Lu Yu with disbelief. "Did you know all along that the grand formation was no longer operational?"
As Lu Yu gathered the pendant and surrounding treasures, he responded without looking up, "I saved you, and not even a word of thanks?"
"Who asked for your help?" Meng Zhuyun shot back, her glare sharp. As the esteemed young miss of the Profound Zhou Academy, the thought of being rescued by a mere mortal was enough to make her the subject of ridicule.
"Believe what you will. I've got what I came for; you're free to go." Lu Yu's words were punctuated by the swift stowing of the treasures into his storage bag.
Meng Zhuyun's curiosity was instantly roused. "You have a storage bag? You're clearly no ordinary mortal. Could you be the secret offspring of a Supreme Celestial Sect Master?"
Lu Yu, uninterested in further banter, merely gestured towards the door, signaling her to leave.
"Hmph, you could have just asked for the pendant from the start, instead of swindling me out of all those treasures!" Meng Zhuyun sulked.
Yet, Meng Zhuyun was well aware that Lu Yu stood above a dragon-pulse, and even the formidable cardioverter had met his end at Lu Yu's hands. She had no desire to cross him now.
Just then, a faint pink mist wafted towards her, entering her nostrils. What was this?
A flicker of confusion crossed Meng Zhuyun's mind, but it was quickly followed by a jolt through her body. This was none other than the Heart-Seizing Old Demon's seductive powder!
