C1 Elf Pet App One
It was eight in the morning, and the sun bathed the world in a warm, gentle light.
Liu Xu stood at the entrance of a pet shop, his gaze drawn to the advertisement beside the door, a flicker of interest sparking within him.
"Summer temporary workers needed. Daily pay. Must be hardworking and punctual. Interested parties, please enter for further discussion."
He wasn't sure what kind of work a pet shop would have for a temp, but a month or two could help cover his final year's tuition fees.
With that thought, he reached for the door.
Just then, the door swung open from the inside.
Liu Xu stepped back but not quite far enough, his nose colliding with the door. It wasn't a heavy blow, but it left a sour sting.
"Ah, did I hit you? I'm so sorry, truly sorry," the voice came from a flustered woman, apologizing profusely.
Liu Xu, unfazed, gave a resigned wave and was about to respond when he looked up and found himself taken aback.
Before him stood an exceptionally beautiful woman in a form-fitting dress and red high heels, her figure striking, especially her impressively statuesque bust that seemed ready to defy the confines of her attire.
Her hair shone with a silky luster, bangs framing her forehead and cheeks. Her slightly round face glowed with a fair and rosy complexion, her watery eyes and cherry lips capturing Liu Xu's attention, his cheeks flushing at the sight.
She was stunning.
Momentarily dazed, he snapped back to reality as she continued her apologies. He hurriedly said, "No harm done, really. I'm actually here to apply for work."
"To apply?" The woman's warmth cooled considerably. She gave Liu Xu a once-over and shook her head, "Sorry, we're only looking for girls. Try somewhere else."
With that, she turned to re-enter the shop.
Before Liu Xu could speak up, another woman emerged from the store, younger than the first.
She scrutinized Liu Xu, then called back inside, "Ms. Yue, maybe we should keep this guy. We've got an overflow of dogs boarding lately, and there's been plenty of grumbling during cleanup. He could lend a hand. Plus, a guy's strength comes in handy for moving stuff around."
Initially, Liu Xu felt a wave of gratitude when someone defended him, but by the end of the conversation, he couldn't resist rolling his eyes in exasperation.
Am I just a janitor and a grunt now?
The beauty in the short skirt who had earlier entered the shop soon emerged, her mind seemingly changed by some part of the conversation. After a moment's thought, she addressed Liu Xu, "60 yuan a day, with pay distributed weekly. Any issues with that?"
Liu Xu wasn't particularly bothered by her sudden switch from daily to weekly payments. He confidently assured her, "Rest assured, I've always been fond of small animals and even have a knack for communicating with them. Working at the Pet Shop is right up my alley."
"Really?" The woman's skepticism was evident as she dismissed him with a wave of her hand, "Start now. Today's an unpaid trial, though we'll cover your meal. Xiaoqi, show him the ropes."
"Sure thing, Ms. Yue," the earlier beauty replied with a nod.
Seriously, what a Scrooge!
Liu Xu felt a twinge of irritation but reminded himself that his primary goal was to test the item he had brought with him; making money was just a bonus. With that in mind, he swallowed his annoyance and followed her into the store.
He had expected to be assisting in the front of the shop, but instead, he was taken straight to the backyard. The space wasn't large, roughly a hundred square meters, and apart from a solitary tree and some pet toys scattered about, it was filled with cages.
