C16 The Sixteenth Chapter of the New Talent Sharing Four
"Is this really a success? Let's test its reliability first."
Liu Xu pondered as he maneuvered the mosquito through a lap around his rental before slipping out the window.
The rentals were tightly packed, one against the other. As the mosquito emerged, it glanced sideways, immediately revealing the steamy scene next door.
A young girl lived beside Liu Xu. They were casual acquaintances, and judging by the circumstances, she was likely showering.
The steam fogged up the window, obscuring the view. Even with the mosquito's enhanced vision, Liu Xu could only make out a faint silhouette. The humidity weighed down the air, shortening the mosquito's stay. Without lingering, he relinquished control.
Instantly, his perspective snapped back to his own body. Liu Xu paced his room, a buzz of excitement in his chest.
'In just a few days with this program, I'm nearly on par with a superhero. If I keep improving, who's to say flying isn't within reach?'
He flopped onto his bed, his excitement growing as he envisioned his future potential, and quickly drifted off to sleep.
...
The following morning, Liu Xu was jolted awake from his dreams by the shrill of his phone.
Blearily, he reached for his phone, and Chu Menghan's voice came through softly.
"Is this Mr. Liu Xu? This is Chu Menghan. Could you please deliver some pet supplies to me?"
Her voice was gentle, her tone extra soothing, as if cautious not to upset him. She added, "I'm unable to go out at the moment. Could you pick them out for me? Only the best, and don't worry about the cost."
How did this woman get my number? Damn, it's got to be Hsu Xiaoyue's doing!
Liu Xu internally grumbled, but considering he was new to the job and eager to make a good impression, he agreed. He dressed hastily and hurried to the Pet Shop as its doors opened.
It was only after he'd forgotten to discuss payment that Hsu Xiaoyue informed him Chu Menghan had left a generous fifty thousand yuan on standby, assuring there was no need to fret over finances.
Recognizing the situation, Liu Xu didn't bother trying to save Chu Menghan any money. He loaded up on a variety of pet supplies, much to Hsu Xiaoyue's delight, who watched with a beaming smile. In a rare gesture, she even handed him a two hundred yuan commission.
Liu Xu couldn't help but silently scorn her money-grubbing ways once more before hopping onto the shop's delivery e-scooter and speeding off to the address Chu Menghan had provided.
Upon arrival, he was held up for a good ten minutes. Not because he had gotten lost, but because Chu Menghan's residence was exceptionally upscale, with stringent security measures in place. The guards, skeptical of his less-than-wealthy appearance, grilled him extensively before finally allowing him entry once they had completed his registration.
As Liu Xu approached Chu Menghan's sprawling three-story luxury villa, he was struck by a wave of emotion. That Husky had hit the jackpot; judging by the house alone, Menghan's net worth had to be in the hundreds of millions. Even if she wasn't particularly attentive, the dog was likely in for a future of feasts, and who knows, maybe even a personal pet nanny to cater to its every whim.
A vast lawn, nearly half the size of a basketball court, stretched out in front of the villa. Liu Xu made his way towards it, noticing the locked gate. He was about to ring the doorbell when a familiar bark caught his attention.
Looking up, he saw the goofy Husky pop up out of nowhere, barking incessantly at him and pacing in circles, a clear sign of distress.
Taken aback, Liu Xu quickly pulled out his phone to use the animal language translator.
The next moment, the translated text on the screen sent a jolt through him.
"Awoo, perfect timing, you're here! There's been a serious incident! My beautiful owner is in danger!"
