C17 Saving One
"Explain clearly, what exactly happened?"
Liu Xu was baffled. Chu Menghan had just called him less than two hours ago; how could she suddenly be in trouble?
"Oh no, she's been kidnapped."
The Husky was visibly distressed, hopping around frantically: "Two men in black showed up. The beautiful owner answered the door and before she could even speak, they grabbed her and took her inside. You have to rescue her now, or it's too late!"
"Was there any conflict?"
"Conflict?"
The word seemed foreign to the Husky. After pondering for a while, it replied, "No, just dragged inside."
Liu Xu breathed a sigh of relief.
According to the Husky's account, the kidnappers clearly had a premeditated plan; this wasn't a spur-of-the-moment crime, and they hadn't been violent, which likely meant they needed Menghan's cooperation for something.
The most probable motive was money, and it seemed they were the type to take the cash without causing harm, making a quick getaway.
With this in mind, Liu Xu felt a sense of relief. If his hunch was right, he had ample time.
"Start from the beginning and give me all the details," he instructed the Husky.
The Husky let out a dissatisfied bark but, seeing Liu Xu's resolute demeanor, begrudgingly began to recount the events.
Before long, Liu Xu had a clear grasp of the situation.
The location was Chu Menghan's private vacation villa, usually deserted except for the regular visits from the cleaning crew, and today happened to be their day off.
That meant, aside from the perpetrators, Menghan was alone in the villa.
Liu Xu didn't buy that it was mere coincidence. Menghan had let the kidnappers in herself, and there had been a brief exchange before the abduction, suggesting a familiarity between them.
It made sense now how they'd evaded the security—it was likely an inside job.
This realization didn't ease his mind; if anything, he grew more anxious.
Chu Menghan was a young, attractive woman. If those men were to act on a sinister impulse, with no one else in the villa, the consequences could be dire.
Although Liu Xu wasn't particularly fond of Chu Menghan, the thought of standing by while a girl in the prime of her youth met with a tragic end was something he couldn't reconcile with his conscience.
With this in mind, Liu Xu noticed the Husky gearing up to bark again. Concerned that it would alert the occupants of the villa, he quickly interjected, "Quiet down. I'll figure out a way to get in."
In a hushed tone, the Husky responded, "Awoo, no need for you to brainstorm—I've already made a doggy entrance. Follow me, and you can crawl through there. But hurry, if anything happens to our beautiful owner, and I lose my mansion, I swear I'll fight you tooth and nail!"
Liu Xu was momentarily at a loss for words, then remarked, "I've always heard Huskies are a bit off-the-wall, but you seem to have a pretty sharp mind."
"You don't know the half of it. Foolish humans love to think of us as dim-witted and find it amusing. If I didn't play along, they'd be displeased. I wouldn't bother with this act if it weren't for the sake of food," the Husky retorted, casting a contemptuous look at Liu Xu, clearly lumping him in with the 'foolish humans.'
'This dog is damn near supernatural,' Liu Xu thought to himself, then declared, "No need for that, I can get in on my own."
He surveyed the fence towering over two meters high, set his belongings down, and after a brief stretch, he uttered a low chant, "Talent Sharing!"
Liu Xu's body jolted suddenly.
Today, he was clad in a long-sleeved T-shirt and appeared no different from anyone else. But in a flash, as the Ant Talent kicked in, his physique swelled as if pumped with air.
