C2 Elf Pet App Two
The cages were mostly filled with a variety of dogs, with a handful of cats and a smattering of unusual little creatures thrown into the mix.
During their walk, Liu Xu struck up a conversation and discovered that the woman in the short skirt was named Hsu Xiaoyue, the proprietor of the Pet Shop. The young girl who had earlier encouraged her to keep him was Huang Ziqi, another employee at the store.
This was Liu Xu's first time witnessing such a throng of animals in one place, and the chaos was giving him a headache. He couldn't resist asking Hsu Xiaoyue, "Why are there so many animals here?"
"With the Dragon Boat Festival coming up, many people are traveling back to their hometowns or going on vacation, leaving their pets in our care," Hsu Xiaoyue explained. "The workload has become overwhelming, which is why we're in need of temporary help."
"And what will my duties be?" Liu Xu inquired instinctively.
"See those empty cages over there?" Hsu Xiaoyue gestured toward a stack of unoccupied cages, her smile enigmatic. "We women here are delicate and not cut out for heavy lifting. Plus, I'm dealing with my monthly visitor right now, so I'm not much help. That's where you come in." She gave Liu Xu a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Start by cleaning these cages. Do a good job, and there's a chance for a permanent position."
She chuckled at Liu Xu's bewildered expression, her laughter trailing behind her like a fragrant breeze as she headed to the front of the store.
Liu Xu turned back to the pile of iron cages, shook his head with a wry smile, and grabbed a hose to begin his task. No sooner had he turned on the faucet than a Husky nearby began barking incessantly at him.
Caught off guard, Liu Xu slapped his forehead in realization.
Damn, he had completely forgotten about the task at hand.
He hurriedly shut off the faucet, set aside the hose, wiped the splashes from his clothes, and pulled out his phone.
It was a run-of-the-mill smartphone, nothing fancy or brand-name.
The screen came to life under Liu Xu's touch, and he tapped the app icon featuring a fire-breathing dragon labeled 'Elf Pet.' Activating the camera, he pointed it at the Husky that wouldn't stop barking at him.
A notification chime sounded from the phone.
"Selection locked. Would you like to activate the beast language translator now?"
Liu Xu eyed the message skeptically, wondering about its reliability.
He pondered to himself.
Just a few days earlier, his phone screen had gone haywire, prompting a visit to a repair shop. It was only afterward that he discovered an additional app called 'Elf Pet' had appeared on his device.
Initially, he assumed the repair technician had installed it and intended to remove it. But when his attempts to delete it failed, he curiously tapped it open.
The app lacked any real introduction, offering only a single mission: earn the gratitude of ten pets through the program to unlock a secret feature. The 'Beast Communication' option was something Liu Xu had stumbled upon only the day before.
This very feature sparked his interest in applying for a job at the Pet Shop, eager to delve deeper into its mysteries.
Liu Xu promptly selected 'Confirm.'
"Please Wait" flashed on the screen before it began translating the Husky's barks into human speech, much like a live interpreter.
The Husky exclaimed, "You inept part-time poop-scoopers, can't you see I'm a clean freak? How dare you contaminate my water bottle with bugs! Awoo! I'm livid! Replace my water this instant! With this heat, are you trying to make me die of thirst?"
