C7 Miraculous Npc
"What? You're telling me that the High-Level Lava Monsters have left their own territory and moved to where the Low-Level Lava Monsters are congregating?" Lin Tian's eyebrows knitted together as soon as he heard the news.
Lin Tian had a straightforward plan initially: transform the battlefield into a game, allowing players from the outside world to come in and eliminate the monsters for him. For it to be a game, it needed to resemble those in the outside world to attract players.
But as the plan gradually unfolded, Lin Tian realized the challenges involved. For instance, in the real world, when you design a game, you have complete control over every aspect, including the monsters. That control doesn't exist on this battlefield.
The monsters here hail from various worlds and are beyond Lin Tian's command. Could he really expect the High-Level monsters to stay put in their own territory and not harass the ordinary players still leveling up in Beginner Village? Clearly, that was not the case.
He hadn't foreseen this issue, but now that it had arisen, Lin Tian was at a loss. The High-Level Lava Monsters insisted on venturing into the gathering areas of the First-Level Lava Monsters to massacre players who were barely at Level One or Two. How could these players possibly defend themselves?
"What do we do now? Quite a few players have already been one-shotted by these high-level monsters, and many have even started lodging complaints with me, the NPC," Bai Li grumbled, visibly upset.
"Damn, is it possible that these Lava Monsters have figured out our plan? So they're sending their High-Level elites to wipe out our low-level players and prevent them from advancing?" Lin Tian speculated with a frown. But upon further reflection, he dismissed the idea as implausible.
People from the outside world might not even understand what a game is, much less decipher Lin Tian's strategy. So far, the plan was known only to Lin Tian and Bai Li.
"Hold on a second. Since they've lodged complaints, why don't I, the NPC, go directly to those players and see if I can gather any clues from them?"
A flash of light, and Lin Tian descended from the heavens, morphing into the guise of an NPC and arriving at Beginner Village. At the Resurrection Point, the area was teeming with players, all in a weakened state and unable to leave, leading to a palpable sense of urgency and frustration.
Upon Lin Tian's arrival, a throng of players encircled him, voicing their grievances. Unsure if their complaints to an NPC would make a difference, they nevertheless felt compelled to relay their predicament to the game's developers. After all, with High-Level monsters besieging Beginner Village, their progress was stunted—how were they expected to play under these conditions?
"Cough, cough. Please, everyone, calm down. I'm aware there's an issue with the game. When we designed it, we aimed for a high degree of freedom and realism, which means the monsters' behaviors are entirely unpredictable," Lin Tian explained.
He continued, "In plain terms, even as the creator, I'm not privy to the actions these monsters might take. Their programming is designed to be autonomous. So, I'm curious—do any of you understand the intentions behind these Elite Monsters' presence here?"
The players were dumbfounded. The idea of an NPC actively engaging with them in such a manner was unheard of. NPCs were typically bound by scripted interactions, yet here was Lin Tian, breaking the mold with his own inquiries—a truly baffling development.
"Don't be astonished," Lin Tian reassured them. "I represent a new level of advanced, autonomous data, a secret project by the creators that hasn't been disclosed yet. It's natural you haven't encountered an NPC with such independent thought. Now, I'd appreciate it if you could answer my question."
Playing an NPC required a certain level of acting skill, but Lin Tian's stoic expression made it a perfect fit for him. Perhaps intrigued by this enigmatic NPC, players began to share the information they had collected. After sifting through the cacophony of details, Lin Tian pieced together the puzzle: the Lava Monsters had come with the intention of capturing the players alive.
Regrettably, the Lava Monsters viewed the players as living beings ripe for capture. It should have been simple to take them alive, but when they attempted to capture any player, they were met with fierce resistance. The players fought as if they were fearless warriors, valiantly disregarding their own lives.
The Lava Monsters couldn't possibly understand that the players possessed the ability to regenerate. Death for them was merely a setback, an opportunity to start over. They certainly wouldn't allow themselves to be taken alive by mere virtual constructs; that would be too humiliating.
"I get it now. It looks like our creators made the program a bit too lifelike. These monsters believe they're invading our world, so they're intent on capturing us alive to extract information. That's a natural progression of events."
"Let's stick with our current strategy and keep doing what we're doing."
"They won't be able to extract any useful information from us players. This situation will naturally resolve itself after some time."
Lin Tian breathed a sigh of relief. He had been concerned that the Lava Monsters had uncovered his secret, but it turned out he was worrying for nothing. These Lava Monsters weren't as clever as he had feared.
If the Lava Monsters' only goal was to capture humans to slaughter the players, Lin Tian wasn't concerned. After all, any information gleaned from a captured player would be unreliable.
Besides, it's unlikely anyone would willingly let themselves be captured. Over time, as it becomes clear that the players are indestructible, the Lava Monsters will probably abandon their efforts, and order will be restored to its original state.
Of course, to ensure the players endure this challenging phase, Lin Tian has also implemented a reward system.
