C8 He Became a Famous Person

"Why are you guys still looking for trouble?" Xu Lin eyed Yu Chengjun and his crew with a hint of displeasure.

"No, no, no, Brother Lin, you've got it all wrong. We've made up our minds to roll with you from here on out!" Yu Chengjun, noticing Xu Lin's sour expression, hastily explained.

"Are you sure about that? Yu Chengjun, you're aware of the heap of trouble I've stirred up out there. Aren't you scared it'll come knocking at your door?" Xu Lin asked with a wry smile.

"We've given it plenty of thought!" Yu Chengjun declared earnestly.

"Fine, if that's how it is, then follow my lead!" No sooner had Xu Lin spoken than the Pure Yang System chimed in.

"Congratulations on completing the mission. You've earned five hundred reward points!" After receiving the points from the Pure Yang System, Xu Lin knew he had to allocate them all. He pondered briefly before deciding to boost each of his five attributes by a hundred points.

"Everyone, listen up! From now on, Brother Lin is the top dog of the junior class. Show him disrespect, and you're crossing me, Yu Chengjun!" Yu Chengjun proclaimed to the whole of Class 3.

"Head back for now. If something urgent comes up when I'm not around, get together with Hsiao Dali to figure it out, and fill me in when I'm back," Xu Lin instructed, effectively introducing Hsiao Dali to Yu Chengjun and the others. They then took Hsiao Dali off for a chat.

Over the past few days, Yu Chengjun had handed over all the protection money he collected to Xu Lin, who was starting to see the perks of being the boss. The protection fees alone had netted him several thousand, but Xu Lin didn't keep it all. He pocketed 500 for himself, tossed another 500 to Yu Chengjun and the crew for cigarettes, and had Yu Chengjun return the rest.

Now the undisputed leader of the junior class, Xu Lin was rubbing shoulders with a new crowd. However, he quickly ran into an issue: money was tight. The monthly protection fees weren't nearly enough to mix with the high rollers. In this world, while a strong fist mattered, sometimes money spoke louder. Plus, with high school on the horizon, Xu Lin knew he had to stand on his own two feet and couldn't keep hitting up his grandfather for cash.

To achieve independence, Xu Lin knew he had to learn to make his own money. But how? While Xu Lin was a leader, he wasn't like the others. Previously, under Yu Chengjun's leadership, protection fees collected were in the thousands. Since Xu Lin took over, he capped the fees at 1,000 yuan a month, earning him applause from many students. Yet, Xu Lin couldn't bring himself to raise the fees.

Starting a company seemed like a good idea, but as a student without connections or resources, Xu Lin doubted such a venture would be sustainable. Getting a job was out of the question. Even if Xu Lin was willing, Hsiao Dali and others would disapprove, and Xue Moye would be even less likely to consent.

Engaging in illicit activities was not an option for Xu Lin. After much deliberation, he realized his only viable option was to make money online. Xu Lin had a computer at home, a second-hand one his grandfather had bought him when he was ten. Despite its age, Xu Lin had taken good care of it, and it still worked perfectly. Live streaming was all the rage online, and with good looks or talent, one could be incredibly successful.

The question of what to stream, however, was a stumbling block for Xu Lin. He could showcase his superpower, but aside from clairvoyance, he didn't have much else to offer. His singing talent was the only other skill he had. After much thought, Xu Lin decided to live stream his singing.

Choosing from numerous streaming platforms, Xu Lin settled on B站, attracted by its lack of age restrictions, allowing anyone to watch. He adopted the moniker "MC Lin" and embarked on his live streaming journey.

"Hey there, dear friends, welcome to room 12138! I'm your host, MC Lin, and I'll be kicking things off with a couple of songs for you all. Make sure to tune in!" Xu Lin's first live stream was nerve-wracking. He struggled to find the right words, and the awkward introduction left him feeling sheepish.

Xu Lin was no stranger to watching live streams on his phone, but he was all about gaming streams—primarily King of Glory, League of Legends, and PUBG. With gaming streams, all you had to do was talk through the gameplay; no need to put yourself in the spotlight. But since Xu Lin wasn't exactly a gaming pro, becoming a game streamer was out of the question. His only option was to showcase his talents. Still, his first foray into talent streaming left him feeling a bit awkward.

Not one to dwell on it, Xu Lin cleared his throat and dove into an a cappella performance. He chose two hit anime tracks: "Blue Bird" from Naruto and "Time After Time" from Detective Conan. By the end of his mini-concert, Xu Lin was more exhausted than if he'd been training—Japanese songs of such complexity were particularly challenging.

The effort was worth it, though. His live stream room soon filled with virtual flowers. They might have been free gifts, but they signaled that people were tuning in to watch him.

"Wow, are the Gen Z kids really this talented? Singing Japanese songs and all!"

"Hey there, you've got a great voice! As a first-timer here, your singing has completely captivated me!"

Encouraged by the positive feedback, Xu Lin decided to belt out a few more tunes, including the notoriously difficult "Red Lotus Bow." His popularity soared; within minutes, over 300 viewers had flooded in, a feat not commonly seen on Bilibili, where typically only fresh-faced newcomers quickly amass such a following. Before long, Xu Lin's stream was featured on the homepage—a testament to his vocal prowess and a dash of good fortune.

After his set, Xu Lin took a break to chat with his audience. His popularity continued to climb, even without the music.

"Damn, Lin, you've taken to singing live online now!"

"Lin, your voice is killer—it outshines most streamers by miles! I can't offer much, but here's a sports car for you. Go on and become an internet sensation!" Among the commenters, Xu Lin spotted some of his buddies, though Hsiao Dali was the only one he could identify.

Moreover, a slew of female classmates showed up to cheer him on. "Xu Lin, I never imagined I'd stumble upon you on Bilibili. You're truly incredible—not only do you excel academically, but your martial arts skills are first-rate. And to top it off, your singing is so enchanting, it's downright lethal!"

"Xu Lin, I want to have your babies!" blurted out some of the bolder girls in the comments section. Xu Lin's live stream had already surpassed the thousand-viewer mark and was rapidly approaching a five-digit frenzy.

Before long, a VIP made an entrance into Xu Lin's live stream, sparking yet another sensation. This VIP was none other than the renowned Sis Lu from the C circle.

Xu Lin himself was taken aback; his live singing session had been featured on the homepage, and his popularity was skyrocketing, nearly rivaling Bilibili's top streamers. The influx of gifts was overwhelming. Overjoyed, Xu Lin belted out several traditional-style songs. Despite the building's less-than-stellar soundproofing, Xu Lin's powerful vocals didn't disturb a soul—thanks to the ancient divine power he'd harnessed to create a sound-isolating barrier within his room.

The buzz in the live stream caught the attention of Bilibili's staff, including Fang Ting, the platform's operations manager. She had been closely monitoring Xu Lin's rapidly growing viewership. In just one hour, the live stream's audience was closing in on 100,000—a figure that not only eclipsed many of Bilibili's top streamers but also secured a prime spot at the very top of the homepage recommendations.

Fang Ting couldn't resist tuning in to witness Xu Lin's performance. His vocal prowess was indeed impressive, rivaling that of professional singers, which explained his live stream's magnetic appeal.

MC Lin had become an overnight sensation, drastically boosting Bilibili's traffic. After his live stream ended, it was shared and promoted nearly tens of thousands of times. Major live streaming platforms were vying for MC Lin, and he became the focal point of media outlets everywhere. The press buzz around MC Lin was just beginning to heat up.

When Xu Lin's live stream took the internet by storm, it caught the eye of the school's top dog, Gu Xing. "Xing, Xu Lin's getting a bit too cocky. He ousted Yu Chengjun from his throne as the senior class's big shot, and his live singing caused quite the stir. I even heard that Sister Lu showered Xu Lin with gifts!" Yue Feng remarked.

Gu Xing's face was clouded with annoyance. Xu Lin had dethroned Yu Chengjun to become the new alpha of the juniors, a move that Gu Xing, as Redwood High's kingpin, hadn't bothered to question. Who held the reins didn't concern him, but Xu Lin catching the eye of Sister Lu, a heavyweight in the C circle, certainly did. Gu Xing hadn't yet rubbed elbows with this pivotal figure, yet Xu Lin had already beaten him to the punch. "Yue Feng, suss out this kid tomorrow. Let's see what he's really made of!" commanded Gu Xing.

"You got it!" Yue Feng responded.

The following day, as soon as Xu Lin set foot on campus, Hsiao Dali approached him, bubbling with excitement. "Lin, you were on fire last night! I caught your live stream on Bilibili; man, you can sing! And who knew you were a martial arts whiz with top grades to boot? You're setting the bar way too high for the rest of us!"

"Hsiao Dali, ready to roll with me? I guarantee you'll reap far greater rewards than you're getting now!" Xu Lin said with a grin.

"Count me in, Lin! I'm with you all the way!" Hsiao Dali declared, thumping his chest.
