C15 Begging for His Help
As Lin Luo was deep in thought, Cai Xiangsong's assistant hurried over in a flurry.
The assistant leaned in and whispered something, causing Cai Xiangsong to become visibly excited.
Lin Luo, however, remained indifferent to Cai Xiangsong's emotional outburst.
He had always been perceptive. Though they had only met twice, Lin Luo could easily discern Cai Xiangsong's character.
Cai Xiangsong was truly devoted to the study of medicine, but his limited talent made his achievements all the more remarkable.
"If I'm not mistaken, you should have your assistant check on my daughter's condition again. The test results are in, and it seems her condition is improving," Lin Luo stated calmly, accurately deducing Cai Xiangsong's actions.
Cai Xiangsong tried to feign ignorance, but his act was transparent to Lin Luo.
Feeling awkward, Cai Xiangsong rubbed his forehead, a gesture he often used to mask his discomfort.
Watching Cai Xiangsong's repeated motion, Lin Luo couldn't help but smile.
"If you have any questions, feel free to ask me directly. After all, I owe you for this time, but I can only answer one question," Lin Luo offered.
He had intended to provide some medical advice, but then he quickly amended his offer, mindful of the boundaries he shouldn't cross.
Cai Xiangsong's face lit up with the prospect of receiving guidance from Lin Luo, whose expertise he greatly admired.
"You can get my contact information from Elder Xu. I'll set aside a special time to assist you, and if I'm feeling generous, I might even give you a book," Lin Luo mentioned before returning to his meal, putting an end to the conversation.
Ideally, he should visit his daughter in the ward, but under the circumstances, he decided it was best not to.
Having satisfied his appetite, Lin Luo turned to Elder Xu, who was watching him intently, a puzzled look on his face.
Lin Luo couldn't shake the feeling that Elder Xu had something he wanted to discuss.
As Lin Luo was about to make an inquiry, the door to the hospital room swung open unexpectedly. Xu Wenqian arrived, arms laden with both large and small parcels—it was clear he hadn't skimped on his purchases.
"Mr. Lin, I heard you're currently recuperating in the hospital, so I went out of my way to buy some nutritional supplements to help strengthen your body. I owe you a great debt for saving my father; without your help, he might not be with us today," Xu Wenqian said, placing his purchases on the small table with heartfelt appreciation.
Lin Luo appeared to have anticipated Xu Wenqian's impromptu visit.
"Young Master Xu, if there's something on your mind, please feel free to speak openly. We're all intelligent people here; there's no need for secrecy. Rest assured, if I'm able to assist, I will," Lin Luo offered, preempting Xu Wenqian's request. He could sense the young man's reluctance to voice his concerns.
Though unsure of the exact nature of the request, Lin Luo sensed an opportunity to be of service.
Xu Wenqian, realizing that Lin Luo had quickly seen through his intentions, was visibly flustered. He had thought his concerns were well-concealed, yet to Lin Luo, they were transparent.
"Mr. Lin, I realize it may be inconvenient to ask for your help at this time, but a dear friend of mine is in trouble. He's suffering from a serious but undiagnosed condition. Despite consultations with numerous esteemed doctors, none have been able to identify the cause," Xu Wenqian explained, his voice betraying a hint of distress.
The situation was indeed peculiar—a perfectly healthy individual suddenly afflicted with a mysterious illness.
Cai Xiangsong, who had been listening, suddenly had a realization and clapped his hands.
"If I'm not mistaken, you must be referring to Huo Qiming, Director Huo, right? His condition is indeed unusual and doesn't appear to be a common ailment," Cai Xiangsong remarked candidly, recalling his own examination findings.
He had considered several potential solutions, but to no avail. The illness had struck abruptly, and in just a few short months, the man had withered away to a mere shadow of his former self.
He had his suspicions more than once that the illness might be cancer, but Boss Huo had undergone a thorough medical examination. Regrettably, the results consistently showed no issues.
It was precisely because of these unproblematic results that the doctors hesitated to treat Director Huo hastily.
The doctors were most concerned about their reputations. A misstep with a complex case could tarnish their standing for good.
"Since you're aware, then please inform me of the illness. It would save me some time."
Upon realizing Lin Luo was inquiring about the illness, Cai Xiangsong experienced an inexplicable tension, reminiscent of being questioned by a teacher.
He straightened his posture and responded to Lin Luo's inquiry. After hearing the explanation, Lin Luo came to a conclusion.
"I've ascertained the specific issue. The illness is treatable and not particularly challenging. The key lies in a single herb. If we can procure that herb, the patient should recover smoothly."
Lin Luo's tone was nonchalant, which aroused Xu Wenqian's skepticism.
The other party's prompt agreement made him wonder if there was an issue at hand.
"You might find my response hasty, but I am indeed capable of treating the illness. The reason for the patient's decline over the past few months is due to an outing he took not long ago. If I'm not mistaken, he has a penchant for collecting various antiques."
Lin Luo's leisurely words caused Xu Wenqian's face to register shock.
Just moments before, he had questioned Lin Luo's capabilities, but now he suddenly felt his judgment had been myopic.
Without revealing much, the other party knew about Director Huo's fondness for antiques, which was quite astonishing.
"The condition arose because of a toxin present on the antiques. The details are beyond your understanding, but all you need to do is follow my directions and find a specific herb. Ideally, you should purchase it from someone of advanced age."
Lin Luo wrote down the herb's name on a piece of paper and handed it over to Xu Wenqian.
For affluent individuals like them, locating this herb wouldn't be a challenge.
Cai Xiangsong rose to his feet and casually glanced at the paper.
Upon seeing the herb's name, his eyes widened in surprise, clearly not expecting what he saw.
It had been years since he last encountered this particular herb. Back when he was an apprentice to his master, he had learned about its existence. The reputation was that only the most exceptional doctors could utilize this herb effectively. Its scarcity wasn't the issue; rather, it was the unique method required to process it. Without several decades of medical practice, one simply wouldn't have the expertise to manage it properly.
