C17 The Climax Appeared
Watching the zombies collapse one by one, Shen Faang couldn't help but feel a surge of elation. She thought that now they could make a swift escape from this haunted place, free from the threat of the undead.
Turning to the group, Shen Faang urged, "We need to get out of here quickly, or we might run into more bizarre creatures. If you value your lives, follow me."
Once Shen Faang had spoken, there was no dissent among them. They understood that their best chance of survival was to heed Shen Faang's advice. Without further discussion, they followed her, ready to make their escape.
Just as Shen Faang believed she had found their breakthrough, the unexpected occurred.
She sensed impending danger, yet a scan of the surroundings revealed no signs of movement, not even from the smaller zombies.
The group, noticing Shen Faang's halted steps, sensed that something was amiss but were unsure how to address it.
After a moment, Shen Faang dismissed her concerns as overthinking and, without further comment, they resumed their advance.
But then, a monstrous figure loomed before them. The zombie's towering presence, at roughly two meters tall and wielding a concrete club, indicated it was of a formidable rank.
Shen Faang racked his brain; this type of zombie seemed familiar. After a brief pause, he recalled encountering such creatures in books – they were of the Black Level, and an encounter meant certain death.
Yet Shen Faang refused to succumb to fate. He was convinced that through their own strength, they could defeat these zombies and ensure everyone's safety.
The sight of the zombies took everyone by surprise, leaving them unsure of how to proceed. They instinctively shrank back behind Shen Faang, hoping he would take the lead in combat while they sought a safe haven. This, they believed, was their only chance at survival.
Addressing the fearful group, Shen Faang commanded, "If you want to stay alive, follow my lead. Stay behind me and don't move until I say so. I'm about to engage this zombie in battle."
"Remember, you must act as if you are nothing more than a log. Do not move forward, or you'll be in danger. Understood?"
After hearing Shen Faang's warning, everyone nodded in agreement. They understood the risks of ignoring his advice and chose to remain silent. Since Shen Faang had advised against moving forward, they refrained from further discussion.
Once everything was in place, Shen Faang proceeded ahead.
The sight of the zombie drenched in yellow fluid repulsed him, but he managed to keep his composure.
He anticipated a close-quarters battle with the zombie and knew the importance of avoiding any contact with it, lest it be his end.
The zombie, armed with a concrete rod, instilled fear in Shen Faang. He was aware of the difficulty in facing such an adversary, especially since it was of the Profound Level. Shen Faang realized he needed a clever strategy to conquer the zombie without exhausting his energy.
But as he drew his sword, ready to engage the zombie, he failed to notice it had already closed in on him.
Shen Faang looked up, startled, and before he could react, the zombie swung at his head.
Fortuitously, Shen Faang's quick reflexes saved him from certain death.
Wang Mengyan, witnessing the encounter, cried out in alarm, momentarily forgetting Shen Faang's earlier words.
For her, Shen Faang was still of great importance. Yet, after some time, Mengyan recalled Shen Faang's instructions and fell silent once more.
In the midst of the struggle, Shen Faang, confident in his abilities, was taken aback when the zombie aimed a blow at his arm, uttering incomprehensible words.
It seemed the zombie sought retribution for the wings Shen Faang had severed, aiming to ensure Shen Faang would not survive.
Undeterred, Shen Faang relentlessly attacked the zombie. However, as time passed, his strength waned, and he collapsed to the ground.
However, at that critical moment, Thirty seized the opportunity and viciously swung at the arm, nearly rendering it useless. This sent the onlookers into a panic, unsure of how to respond.
It was then that Wang Mengyan addressed them, "Quickly, lift the well cover. I'm confident that if we can draw it over to the well, it will fall in. That way, we can make our escape swiftly and no longer be under its threat."
Realizing they had no other option, and without a moment to spare, they dashed to the edge of the empty well and shifted the cover to one side.
Meanwhile, Wang Mengyan tirelessly baited the zombies, drawing their attacks towards herself. This left the others bewildered, as they couldn't fathom how such a seemingly fragile woman could dare to engage in combat with the undead.
Finally, thanks to Wang Mengyan's relentless efforts, the zombies began to move toward the well. The others followed, prodding the creature with sticks from behind, driving it straight towards the well opening.
Just as they had anticipated, the zombie stepped onto the well cover and plummeted down, allowing them to breathe a sigh of relief.
