C12 He Sneaked in
Qin Biao was taken aback by the Purple Rat's clever maneuvers. The clearing was a scene of utter chaos, with creatures of all kinds locked in fierce combat, fighting as if their lives depended on it. The Purple Rat's group, however, stood apart in their approach.
As Qin Biao watched the Purple Rat deftly avoid the frenzied demons and slip into the cave with ease, he looked on with a mix of curiosity and bewilderment.
He had been puzzled as to why the Purple Rat would risk attempting to seize this opportunity. Common knowledge held that Rat Demons were at the lower end of the demon hierarchy, given their inherent limitations. Yet, it was also true that many Rat Demons possessed strong natural talents and rose to become formidable figures, though they were fewer in number compared to other species.
"This Purple Rat is onto something. I need to figure out a way to get in there too," Qin Biao mused. As he contemplated his next move, the surrounding Purple Mist had already begun to clear, and it was dissipating at an increasing rate. It wouldn't be long before it vanished completely, making any attempt to sneak in much more difficult.
With determination, Qin Biao bit the bullet, swiftly descended the tree, and plunged into the Purple Mist, making a beeline for the cave.
Initially, the mist seemed bearable, tainted only by a foul odor. But after a few steps, Qin Biao sensed trouble; his blood felt like it was boiling, and a heat enveloped his body. A strange compulsion overtook him, as if he bore a vendetta against everything in sight and was driven to fight to the bitter end.
Thankfully, Qin Biao managed to burst out of the mist just in time. He tumbled to the ground, embracing a tree in a desperate attempt to ground himself.
The sharp pain that followed helped to quell the wild urge within him, and his blood slowly returned to normal. Weakened, Qin Biao collapsed, gasping for air.
"That was twisted. I nearly got caught up in it," he thought, still shaken as he observed the battleground shrouded in purple mist. The carnage continued unabated, with countless demons still locked in deadly combat. Many of the weaker ones had been trampled into oblivion, and even among the survivors, many were maimed but still fought on with a frenzied glint in their eyes.
Seeing this, Qin Biao shuddered uncontrollably. If he hadn't made a timely escape, he might have ended up in an even worse state. After such a prolonged battle, only the heavy hitters remained, and they were certainly not adversaries Qin Biao could handle at the moment.
Yet, the purple mist had significantly dissipated. If it continued to clear, Qin Biao would be forced to stand by helplessly as others entered. The image of Duan Hao's face emerged in his mind once more, as persistent and tormenting as a demon.
"No, I have to get in there! There's got to be a way!" Qin Biao stood up with determination, his eyes alight with an intense fire.
He tried to steady his nerves and pondered what made the Purple Rat so special. It didn't take long for him to realize that not only the Purple Rat but also the group of Rat Demons behind it seemed unaffected by the mist.
With this in mind, Qin Biao glanced at the fur he had taken from a Little Demon. His original plan was to use it to gain entry, but the Purple Rat's sudden powerful attack had caught him off guard.
"Could this fur be the key?" he wondered. As he grappled with his confusion, a thunderous roar echoed through the air. Before Qin Biao could look up to investigate, a wild boar charged, sending a fox demon flying before barreling straight into the cave.
Qin Biao's heart skipped a beat. The purple mist was nearly gone, and although many demons were still embroiled in combat, they were gradually regaining clarity. The wild boar, likely the most formidable among them, had been the first to recover and had wasted no time charging into the cave.
Qin Biao eyed the cave, now within arm's reach, and then the fur in his hands. With resolve, he muttered, "It's now or never! Fortune favors the bold!" With that, he stripped off the fur and covered his face with it, then charged headlong into the remnants of the purple mist.
As he broke through, a surge of elation filled him. His hunch had been correct—the rats' fur was the secret. Shielded by the fur, he detected no strange odors upon entry, which brought him a measure of comfort.
Qin Biao's stature was rather diminutive in the clearing, surrounded by "giant creatures" that towered dozens of times over his own height. He had to weave through the demons' footsteps while ensuring he didn't become the focus of a deranged demon's attention. The situation was fraught with peril.
The experience reminded Qin Biao of a parkour game he used to play in his past life, where he'd laugh at the protagonist's seemingly mindless running. Now, he found himself in the shoes of that mindless runner, a true testament to the wheel of fortune turning.
Under the concealment of fur, Qin Biao made his way into the clearing with ease. The entrance to the cave was in sight, and his heart swelled with joy, prompting him to quicken his pace.
Suddenly, a scraping noise followed by a hissing sound erupted from behind him. "Not good!" Qin Biao thought, as he somersaulted to the side. In the next instant, a green snake lunged at where he had just been, its venomous fangs fully visible.
The snake hissed angrily, clearly frustrated at its failed attempt to take down Qin Biao. It hissed a rapid sequence of sounds and then turned to strike at him once more.
Qin Biao swiftly drew his dagger, holding it before him to deflect the snake's head, sending it off to one side. The impact sent him tumbling to the ground once again.
"Damn it! Back off!" Qin Biao shouted, seeing the demons behind him regain their senses and charge toward the cave. He scrambled to his feet and dashed back toward the cave's entrance.
The snake, enraged by its consecutive setbacks, abandoned the cave entrance and instead pursued Qin Biao with renewed fury!
Cursing under his breath, Qin Biao bolted for the cave. One demon was manageable, but if the horde behind him caught up, they would trample him to death.
The viper, however, was significantly faster than Qin Biao and once again closed in on him, its gaping maw ready to strike.
With the entrance just ahead, Qin Biao could sense the powerful demonic energy emanating from within. Right behind him, the viper's jaws dripped with dark green venom, poised to strike.
"I'm going all out!" Qin Biao gritted his teeth and leaped into action, his claws gripping the dagger as he lunged for the viper's open mouth.
"Clang!" The dagger clashed fiercely with the viper's fangs, ringing out sharply. Qin Biao gripped the weapon firmly, casting wary glances behind him.
"Say your goodbyes!" With a powerful lash of his tail, Qin Biao struck the viper's face, eliciting a pained hiss as the creature tumbled aside. Seizing the moment, Qin Biao propelled himself off the viper's face, using the rebound to soar into the cave!
