C5 The Richest Man in Efoford
"What do you want?" The towering security guard with a dark scowl fixed his unfriendly gaze on Chen Feng.
"I'm here to find someone," Chen Feng replied honestly.
"Find someone?" The guard sneered, "Do you even know where you are?"
"Jade Hill," Chen Feng responded coolly.
"Damn, you know this is Jade Hill and you still have the nerve to come looking for someone? Do you think there's anyone here you'd know?" Wang Dahai scoffed. Chen Feng's entire outfit didn't look like it was worth more than a hundred yuan, and he was riding a delivery scooter. It seemed unlikely that he'd have any connection to the residents of the villa community.
Chen Feng's brow furrowed. He had been so intent on maintaining a low profile that he hadn't anticipated running into a snobbish security guard.
Wang Dahai's arrogance grew as Chen Feng remained silent, convinced he had Chen Feng all figured out.
"Come on, kid, who are you here to see? Lee Juncheng or Mr. Shen?" Wang Dahai mocked. Lee Juncheng and Shen Hongchang were the most notable figures in all of Efoford, the former being the mayor and the latter the city's wealthiest man. There had been many who claimed to know them both, only to be unmasked and beaten by Wang Dahai.
"I'm looking for Shen Hongchang. I've purchased a villa from him and came to check it out," Chen Feng said with a sigh. He was aware that Wang Dahai was unlikely to believe him, but he was willing to give him another chance. If Wang Dahai allowed him entry, he could overlook the whole incident, considering he would be living here eventually.
As expected, his response was met with raucous laughter.
Wang Dahai doubled over, laughing so hard that tears rolled down his cheeks.
"Hahaha, did you all hear that? This fool claims he bought a villa from Mr. Shen. I'm dying of laughter here."
"He must be out of his mind. Doesn't he realize that even if he sold himself, he couldn't afford a single square meter of these villas?"
"If he could afford a villa here, I'd eat this scooter."
The security guards were doubled over with laughter. They'd encountered their fair share of braggarts, but they had never come across someone like Chen Feng, who claimed he had purchased a villa on Jade Hill.
This wasn't just boasting; this was downright delusional!
Chen Feng shook his head, bemused by the guards' reactions.
Why is it that no one believes the truth anymore?
"Alright, kid, you've given me a good laugh, so I'll let you off the hook today. Scram, get off the mountain yourself. This place isn't for the likes of you," Wang Dahai said with a chuckle, shooing Chen Feng away as if he were an annoying fly.
Normally, Wang Dahai would have given someone like Chen Feng a good thrashing to teach him a lesson in humility.
But since Chen Feng had provided some entertainment, Wang Dahai decided to show a bit of mercy and let him go without further incident.
Meanwhile, in a plush living room within the villa complex, Chen Zhong paced nervously by the window, with a burly man standing behind him.
The man's dark skin and the menacing aura he exuded made it hard to believe he was the wealthiest man in Efoford.
This was Shen Hongchang, the city's most affluent individual.
"Mr. Chen, when is Mr. Chen expected to arrive?" Shen Hongchang asked, a hint of anxiety in his voice. He had been restless since hearing from Chen Zhong the previous day that the Chen family heir was due in Efoford, and he hadn't slept a wink.
He was uncertain about the young master's disposition and whether he would be approachable.
Despite being known as Efoford's wealthiest man, Shen Hongchang was well aware that his status was confined to this small corner of the world. In a city like Zhouis, where the elite were in abundance, he would be insignificant.
"The young master..." Chen Zhong began, also feeling uneasy. The phone call had ended over an hour ago, and by all accounts, Chen Feng should have been there by now, yet there was still no sign of him.
Chen Zhong was contemplating calling Chen Feng to inquire about his whereabouts, yet he hesitated, fearing it might irritate Chen Feng. Just then, his phone unexpectedly rang.
"Young Master!"
"I'm at the entrance," Chen Feng stated curtly before hanging up.
Chen Zhong's face showed concern. At the entrance? Why hadn't he come in?
"I told you to scram, kid. Are you fucking deaf?!" Wang Dahai fumed upon seeing Chen Feng ignore his command and audaciously make a phone call right in front of him.
Chen Feng gave a wry smile and asked, "You're telling me to leave?"
"Oh, you need me to show you the door?" Wang Dahai scoffed, his fingers cracking as he viciously kicked Chen Feng's scooter, shattering it. That scooter had been Chen Feng's companion for three years.
A frown creased Chen Feng's brow, and a chill swept across his face. He had braved wind and rain on that scooter, delivering food for three years, forming a bond with it. Now, it lay in ruins, kicked apart by a security guard.
Chen Feng was instantly filled with displeasure.
Undeterred, Wang Dahai signaled the other security guards to encircle Chen Feng.
"Since you won't leave on your own, I'll help you," Wang Dahai taunted, his face twisted with arrogance. "Come on, stretch out your face. A couple of slaps from me and I'll let you leave." He was convinced that Chen Feng was at his mercy, ready to be dealt with as he pleased.
"You're certain you want to slap me?" Chen Feng asked with a smile, stepping closer to Wang Dahai.
"What, you think you can do something about it if I slap you?" Wang Dahai laughed heartily, more convinced than ever of the young man's foolishness.
He may have been just a security captain, but his affiliation with the Shen family was enough to crush Chen Feng. Here, even dignitaries had to tread carefully. Without the Shen family's say-so, no one was allowed in, and no one dared to make a fuss.
With that, Wang Dahai swung his hand towards Chen Feng's face. But before his slap could connect, his wrist was seized in a vice-like grip, and suddenly, it was his own cheek that felt the sting of a slap.
Suddenly, a dark and foreboding face loomed before him.
"Mr. Shen?" Wang Dahai's mind reeled, his tongue seemingly tied in knots. The man who had unexpectedly shown up was none other than the notorious richest man in Efoford, Shen Hongchang!
"Mr. Shen, what brings you here?" Wang Dahai stammered, acutely aware of the Efoford magnate's fearsome reputation.
"Do you also want to take a swing at me?"
Shen Hongchang's voice was heavy with menace. He had been pondering how to ingratiate himself with Chen Feng, yet in an instant, his own bodyguard had barred Chen Feng from entering and had nearly assaulted him.
In that moment, Shen Hongchang harbored a murderous rage toward Wang Dahai.
