C14 Personal Assistant!
After Mu Yanrou settled into the car, she couldn't shake the image of Ye Yufei's smug face from her mind. The more she dwelled on it, the angrier she became.
How could he have the audacity to treat her in such a manner? She wasn't just any Miss Mu; she was a woman who commanded the attention of thousands and had a bevy of men vying for her favor. She was not accustomed to such slights.
Mu Xun, her father, could detect the fury in his daughter's voice over the phone. He knew he couldn't say much; after all, his years of indulgence were the very thing that had shaped Mu Yanrou's fiery temperament.
Now he was riddled with regret, but it was too late for changes; the die had been cast.
"Don't stay angry, just come home," he advised before ending the call. Meanwhile, Ye Yufei was at his apartment, gleefully sipping a drink by the floor-to-ceiling windows. Watching Mu Yanrou's car drive away through the slits in the curtains was immensely gratifying.
People like her needed to be taken down a peg or two—those who strutted around on the coattails of their parents' success. Without the backing of the Mu family, Miss Mu would likely find herself without an audience.
Ye Yufei sprawled out on the couch, propping one foot on the backrest and resting the other on a nearby footstool.
If only every day could be as satisfying as this one, he thought. Not only had he dealt with a deadbeat earlier, but he had also managed to ruffle the feathers of the esteemed Miss Mu.
Suddenly...
The sound of the door lock clicking echoed from the entrance. Ye Yufei hastily feigned sleep, knowing that today's escapades had probably already reached his father's ears.
"What's this? Pretending to sleep the moment you hear me come in? Don't you think you owe me an explanation about your run-in with Mu Yanrou?" Ye Hongjun demanded, his face stern. He was aware of his son's unconventional ways, but the young woman was still a lady of high standing, deserving of some respect.
When Ye Yufei didn't respond, Ye Hongjun gave him a firm kick.
"Ah!" Ye Yufei bellowed, leaping off the couch. He was, after all, Ye Hongjun's own flesh and blood—surely a lighter touch was warranted. That last kick had nearly sent him tumbling into the crevice of the couch.
"What's there to discuss? I made it crystal clear at Mu Yuanshan's birthday banquet. Our engagement is officially annulled, and henceforth, the Ye family will have no further ties with them."
Ye Yufei lounged on the sofa with an air of nonchalance. The broken engagement hadn't fazed him in the slightest, not even causing a ripple of concern.
Ye Hongjun let out a sigh, well aware that he couldn't sway his son's opinion. Yet, he felt compelled to have another discussion with him. After all, Mu Xun had swallowed his pride and made his way to the company that day, and it was only right to set a good example. If not, the two families would struggle to face each other in the future.
"You two were quite a match, and you were so fond of Mu Yanrou before. Why not give it another shot? There's no need to worry about Chu Yunfei. They're history, and their relationship wasn't as sordid as you imagine."
Ye Hongjun scrutinized Ye Yufei, attempting to read his son's thoughts through his microexpressions. But Ye Yufei was clever, keeping his emotions off his face from start to finish.
He disliked the sensation of being manipulated by someone else's grasp on his emotions. Regardless of who he was dealing with, he always remained cautious and guarded.
"Whatever. I've lost interest in that type of woman. Let them be happy together; they seem well-suited. If Mu Xun approaches you again, tell him to come to me."
Ye Yufei casually grabbed a handful of dried fruit from the bowl on the table. Observing his son's leg shaking as he snacked, Ye Hongjun realized further conversation was futile.
The situation was clear: a few words wouldn't change anything. Besides, matters of the heart couldn't be forced. Even if they were to push the two together, it wouldn't result in happiness.
However, he did harbor some regrets. The Mu family, though not as prominent as the Ye family, still controlled a significant amount of resources. His initial wish for the union was to evenly distribute those resources for mutual growth. Now, it seemed a new strategy was necessary.
"We can't afford to burn bridges with Mu Xun. I've already come to an understanding with him today. To make amends to the Mu family, I've decided to offer Mu Yanrou a position in our company."
At Ye Hongjun's words, Ye Yufei abruptly stood up, abandoning his snack mid-bite. Was he out of his mind? How could he have agreed to such a demand?
"Are you out of your mind? Their family has corporations and wealth; they have everything they could possibly want. There's no need for them to work at Ye's Group. When you agreed to his terms, didn't you find his request a bit odd? What if it's a ploy for them to secretly infiltrate our company and seek revenge on you?"
Ye Yufei intentionally exaggerated the severity of the situation. Ye Hongjun shot him a look. They were father and son; did Ye Yufei really think he couldn't see through him?
"Don't try to fob me off with your tall tales. You just want me to feel threatened so I'll refuse their request, right? But I've already given my word, and there's no taking it back now. Besides, if there's any espionage, it's your secrets they're after, not mine."
Ye Hongjun evasively avoided Ye Yufei's gaze, while Ye Yufei paced around him, growing increasingly baffled by his father's actions. They were blood relatives, yet it seemed his father was scheming against his own son.
"Have you lost your mind? We've just called off our engagement, and now you're placing Mu Yanrou right beside me? I can't fathom what you're thinking."
Ye Yufei paced angrily around Ye Hongjun. He had gone to great lengths to sever ties with this woman, and now his father seemed to be exacerbating the situation.
Ye Hongjun sighed. He did wish to respect Ye Yufei's wishes, but he couldn't simply disregard the Mu family's reputation.
"Do you really think I want to do this? I'm aware that you and Mu Yanrou are not meant to be, and I too wish for you both to move on and start new lives separately. However, Mu Xun is not willing to let go. He came to me today, pulling at my heartstrings."
Upon hearing this, Ye Yufei's frustration diminished. He knew his father well; a man with a grand vision, who would reconsider his stance if the company's interests were at stake.
No doubt Mu Xun must have resorted to threats and enticements during his visit, or his father wouldn't have made such a significant compromise.
"Fine, I get your point. Since it was her father's idea for Mu Yanrou to join the company, her day-to-day life is no longer under his jurisdiction."
After Ye Yufei finished speaking, he returned to his room. Ye Hongjun quietly wiped away a bead of sweat; his son was not someone to be taken lightly.
Bright and early, Ye Yufei freshened up and headed to Ye's Group. Now that Mu Yanrou had become his personal secretary, he was determined to give her a run for her money and let her witness firsthand just how formidable he could be.
