C21 I Was Fired!
Regret? The father and son standing nearby couldn't help but burst into laughter at the mention of the word. How could they possibly feel any regret? Eliminating the thorn in their side was their top priority.
"I'll be too busy being happy once you're out of the picture to regret anything. Besides, the school won't miss one less student. My dad can just bring in another friend's kid," the father said smugly.
Xia Lin looked down at Chen Xue with a condescending smirk. The pair really thought they were calling the shots. To their peers, they might have seemed formidable, but outside the school walls, they were nobodies.
The chairman didn't hold much sway on the school's board despite his substantial financial investment, indicating his lack of real influence.
"Fine, I'll sign," Chen Xue said, nodding at them. She could do without this school. Better to leave than to spend another minute with such people.
With her current grades, she could easily take a year to prepare and apply to other schools. There was no point in lingering here. Engaging with these people was an insult to her intelligence, and she wasn't the only one in this situation; several classmates were dealing with similar issues.
Relying on their parents' status, they coasted through school, knowing they could simply take over the family business later. As for managing a company, they had no skills, but when it came to wasting money, they were experts.
Chen Xue picked up the black pen beside her and signed her name on the document laid out before her.
"Director, I've signed it," she announced.
As soon as Chen Xue spoke, she turned to leave, but the principal burst through the door, panting and clutching the doorframe for support. He hadn't anticipated this turn of events. When he heard the director had prepared withdrawal papers, he knew it involved Chen Xue. The altercation between Xia Lin and Chen Xue had caused an uproar at the school, even reaching his office.
"Wait! Chen Xue, you can't just leave. The director was speaking out of anger. Please, don't leave the school."
After regaining his composure, the principal approached Chen Xue, but she was not interested in engaging with them. His demeanor had completely shifted from the day before, undoubtedly due to Ye Yufei's influence. Had it not been for yesterday's incident, the principal would likely still be aligned with the director.
"Principal, why are you siding with Chen Xue? Her presence will only tarnish our school's reputation and negatively impact the other students' learning. In my opinion, we should expel her immediately to set an example."
The principal had no desire to entertain such self-righteous talk. If they expelled Chen Xue, it was probable that Ye's Group would acquire their school within a fortnight, forcing everyone out. He certainly didn't want to be the one to jeopardize his own livelihood.
Stealthily, the principal approached the director, aware that Director Xia was missing a piece of the puzzle.
"She's connected to Ye Yufei of Ye's Group," he whispered.
Upon hearing this, the director was so startled that he fainted.
"Dad! What's wrong with you? Principal, what exactly did you tell my dad to make him faint?" Xia Lin exclaimed, kneeling and clinging to his father. Chen Xue glanced over at the father and son, wondering how they could be so easily overwhelmed.
"Principal, I suggest you take this shareholder for proper medical attention. Don't worry about me. I'll clear out my belongings from the dormitory and leave no trace behind. As of today, I have no ties to this school," Chen Xue declared before departing, leaving the principal at a loss over which issue to prioritize.
On one hand, there was the director, and on the other, a powerful ally they dared not cross.
Chen Xue returned to her dormitory with a smile. Ruirui, upon seeing her, stood up eagerly and gave her a thorough once-over.
"Wow, you're unscathed. I was afraid they'd have you shaking in your boots after taking you away. I even heard the principal got involved," Ruirui said, visibly relieved. The school's directors were known to be formidable, and they had witnessed other students being bullied. As outsiders, they could only watch from the sidelines, never daring to openly discuss the matter, opting instead to speak in hushed tones, careful not to be overheard.
"Don't worry, nothing will happen to me from now on."
Ruirui found Chen Xue's words puzzling. She couldn't fathom why she would say such a thing, especially since the people at school had been so brazen lately; it seemed unlikely that the situation would be resolved quickly.
Chen Xue swiftly packed up her dormitory belongings, filling two large boxes in no time.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm leaving. You'll have to be extra careful living here by yourself. Make sure no one bullies you. And remember the aromatherapy you said you liked? I've left it behind for you. Light it up whenever you miss me. Oh, and I forgot to mention, the director called me in today to fire me."
With those words, Chen Xue departed, leaving Ruirui standing there, still processing the news as Chen Xue vanished from her sight.
At the Ye family's Villa, the sound at the door caught Ye Yufei's attention, prompting him to take a peek outside.
"Butler, what's happening?"
The house was usually quiet; the butler's meticulous nature meant he rarely made a sound.
"Young Master, Miss Chen has come back with two large boxes. I didn't expect them to be so heavy when I had the servants move them," the butler informed him.
Curious, Ye Yufei made his way to the door and spotted the hefty boxes.
"Could you explain what this is all about? I did agree to let you stay with the Ye family, but did you really need to bring so much? If you needed to move, I could have had someone from the house help you. How did you manage to bring all this from school by yourself?"
Ye Yufei was baffled, but Chen Xue thought his offer to send help was overkill and made her seem overly fragile.
"I've been expelled. Starting today, I'll be staying here, trying to find a suitable job. If I do, I'll move out."
After setting down her miscellaneous items, Chen Xue hurried to get a drink of water, while Ye Yufei turned on his computer.
He was determined to find out what had transpired at the school to upset Chen Xue so deeply.
The text on the screen took him aback; it was the school's forum, and the discussions there were likely to be factual.
