C2 Everything else Was Useless
As the iron fist loomed near, Ye Yu remained composed and unafraid. He quickly shielded Yang Yi behind him and countered with a punch of his own. The onlookers, including Yang Yi, braced themselves, expecting Ye Yu to be knocked off his feet.
Yet, what happened next left everyone in shock. With a resounding boom, Ye Yu stood his ground, while Zhao Biao was sent flying back over two meters. His right arm bone jutted out from his shoulder as he crumpled to the ground, motionless, like a deflated balloon.
"Kid, you're going to pay for this. Our boss will make you regret it!" one of the youngsters threatened.
"Sure, sure. I'll be waiting. Next time, I'll even arrange a hearse for him to save you the trouble of carrying his body," Ye Yu quipped with a chuckle, watching them haul Zhao Biao away. He then turned to face Yang Yi.
"Playing the hero for a damsel in distress—how about repaying me with a lifelong commitment?" he joked.
Yang Yi, momentarily taken aback, finally snapped out of her daze. It was only then that she got a good look at Ye Yu.
"Yu... Oh, my apologies, I mistook you for someone else," she said, a hint of disappointment in her eyes that quickly faded to composure. "But seriously, thank you for stepping in to help."
For a split second, Yang Yi had believed that the man before her was indeed Ye Yu. But she quickly dismissed the thought. After all, he had died in a car crash a month ago, and she had identified his body at the morgue herself. Resurrection was impossible; this man merely bore a resemblance to him.
Noticing that Yang Yi didn't recognize him, Ye Yu chose not to elaborate. Being a man who had 'died', it was fortunate enough that his sudden appearance hadn't frightened her.
"I'm Ye Rann, currently between jobs and in search of a spouse," he said, spinning a fictitious tale to keep things simple.
"I'm Yang Yi, the manager of Yangquan Wine Cellar. Here's five hundred yuan as a token of my appreciation. And if you ever need anything, feel free to reach out," she replied, handing him the money and a business card without engaging in his banter. With that, she turned and walked toward the mouth of the alley.
"Hey, I don't want money. I want you to give me your body!" Ye Yu exclaimed loudly.
Yang Yi simply smiled and shook her head in response, finding him rather endearing. If it weren't for the upcoming investment conference, perhaps they could have sat down for a chat.
"Ah!"
A sudden, sharp pain shot through Yang Yi's ankle. Likely due to her unfamiliarity with high heels, she had sprained it.
Without a word, Ye Yu swiftly approached and took hold of her left foot, slipping off the offending high heel.
With his left hand cradling her calf and his right hand steadying her ankle, he could feel the quick pulse of her heartbeat through the thin layer of her flesh-colored stockings. He suspected she might be mistaking him for a creep.
"What are you doing? Pervert, let go of me! I'm going to scream!"
Despair washed over Yang Yi. She had narrowly escaped one danger only to fall into another, encountering a pervert. Being beautiful seemed to be a curse.
"Babe!"
The sound of that nickname made Yang Yi shudder. 'Babe' was what Ye Yu used to call her, and hearing it from him now felt strangely familiar and comforting.
As Yang Yi's focus shifted from her foot, Ye Yu applied a gentle force and expertly realigned her dislocated ankle with a deft twist.
During his three thousand years in the otherworld, Ye Yu had reached the pinnacle in two areas: as a master of Ancient Martial arts, commanding respect worldwide, and as a healer with miraculous medical skills. However, his Ancient Martial cultivation level had been depleted by the fierce winds in the time-space tunnel, leaving him with only the physique of a warrior.
Thankfully, the winds hadn't affected his mind, so his medical knowledge remained intact, now his sole asset.
"Ah!"
Yang Yi winced, but to her amazement, the pain in her ankle vanished. She attempted to move it, forgetting that Ye Yu was still holding her foot. The motion caused her delicate foot to rub against his hands, unintentionally creating a provocative sensation.
"It's all right now!"
Ye Yu slipped the shoes back onto Yang Yi's feet, causing her cheeks to flush with a sudden redness. She quickly withdrew her feet.
"Thank you, thank you so much!"
Her head bowed, her heart fluttered wildly, both from Ye Yu's endearing call of "babe" and her previous misgivings about his character.
Noticing the shift in Yang Yi's demeanor, Ye Yu couldn't help but feel a surge of delight, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
"Words of thanks are empty gestures. How about repaying me with something more... personal? What do you say?"
