C2 A Wife at Home

It was indeed a library, and not just any library—it was a three-dimensional one!

As Lin Han attempted to touch a book that was within close reach, he was taken aback to discover that a history book had flown towards him. It opened right before his eyes, the words on the pages crystal clear, as if they were etched into his mind.

Lin Han was utterly dumbfounded.

He glanced at another book, the one he had been yearning to read, and to his amazement, it too soared over and opened before him. Meanwhile, the previous book gracefully returned to its shelf. The entire process was so fluid and practiced that Lin Han was left standing there, completely bewildered. What in the world was happening?

This scene was all too familiar to Lin Han. He had been reading a history book when it had struck him on the head. He remembered that book—it was about Tang Taizong—and there it was, right in front of him. He had been on page 37, and now, the book opened to that very page, the content identical. Lin Han was lost in a stupor.

How had the library materialized in his mind?

Who could explain what was happening?

After a while, Lin Han let out a deep sigh. Transmigration defied science, so having a few oddities in his brain shouldn't be too startling, should it?

To Lau Mingzhu, Lin Han's bewildered expression seemed full of confusion. Had her blow rendered him senseless?

But what did it matter to her if the boy was confused? To her, he was nothing more than a decent-looking scholar picked at random from the village. She hadn't expected that after a few drinks, he would dare to make advances on her—completely unacceptable.

What exactly was wrong with this fellow? It wasn't her concern. All she wanted was to get through this tiresome night. By tomorrow, once the news of her marriage spread, the County Magistrate could wield his influence all he liked, but he wouldn't be able to do anything too outrageous. And that detestable son of the County Magistrate would surely cease to trouble her. As for her so-called husband, she had never intended to have a real marital relationship with him. Marrying him was merely a strategic delay. The fact that she was willing to marry just about anyone was testament to her deep loathing for the County Magistrate's son.

As Lau Mingzhu pondered, she glanced at Lin Han, who was still lost in thought, and ultimately shook her head before closing her eyes...

...

The night turned into morning.

Lin Han had fallen asleep in the wee hours, around three in the morning by modern standards, and woke up early. Despite the daylight outside, it was summer, so it was likely only about six o'clock, meaning he had managed just three hours of sleep.

Yet, Lin Han's mind was unusually alert, a fact he hadn't anticipated.

Lau Mingzhu had left for the outdoors by the time Lin Han awoke. The sound of the closing door was what stirred him, but what truly kept him awake was the cool breeze drifting in through the open door and window that Lau Mingzhu had left ajar.

Lin Han let out a soft sigh. Not only had he arrived in the unfamiliar Great Ning Dynasty, but he also seemed to have a library in his mind.

It was all quite peculiar.

After slipping on his shoes and rising from bed, Lin Han made his way to the backyard. There, he discovered Lau Mingzhu practicing her swordplay on an empty patch of ground. She wielded a wooden sword with such fierce grace that she appeared every bit the warrior, undeterred by any man. Lin Han paused, taken aback, then let out a wry smile.

It made sense now why this young woman had been able to knock him out so easily; she was skilled in martial arts. Lin Han eyed the sword-dancing girl and then his own slender limbs; any thoughts of escape he might have harbored quickly dissipated.

From the memories Lin Han had acquired from this unfortunate soul, he learned that in this world, there were those who revered martial prowess. His fiancée before him was clearly one such person. While Lin Han was uncertain of her exact level of combat ability, it was evident that he was no match for her.

Upon noticing Lin Han's presence, Lau Mingzhu ceased her movements and looked at him with a furrowed brow. The icy glint in her eyes made Lin Han somewhat uneasy.

She halted, instinctively tensing and retreating a step.

It wasn't for any particular reason, but his wife had a bit of a temper. He didn't believe that being her husband gave him the right to do as he pleased. In reality, he was nothing more than a high-ranking human shield, one without any real standing, especially in his wife's presence.

To put it nicely, he had married into her family. To put it bluntly, Lin Han was an inverse case of the traditional son-in-law arrangement, not even on par with one who married into the wife's family.

The thought alone was somewhat tragic.

"Now that you're sober, let's discuss a few things..." Lau Mingzhu said in a measured tone.

"Hold on, there's no rush. We can talk after I step out. I..." Lin Han clutched his stomach, urgency written all over his face, "Where's the latrine? I really can't wait any longer."

Lau Mingzhu frowned, speechless for a long moment, before finally pointing, "It's over there..."

When nature calls, it calls. And Lin Han, her nominal fiancé, certainly had the right to use the latrine in his own home.

Relieved, Lin Han had only made it halfway when he suddenly stopped beside Lau Mingzhu.

"What's wrong?" Lau Mingzhu asked, eyeing Lin Han with suspicion.

"Where's the toilet paper?" he asked with grave seriousness.

"What?" Lau Mingzhu was momentarily taken aback.

"The paper for... you know, when you use the latrine."

"I'm sorry, we don't have such luxuries!"

"Then how do you... clean up after using the latrine?" Lin Han asked, his cheeks flushing and his expression contorting as he struggled to articulate his current predicament.

Lau Mingzhu's eyes flashed with annoyance.

"Never mind, I'll figure it out myself..."

Realizing he wouldn't get any help, Lin Han picked up some small clumps of earth from the ground and, still clutching his stomach, headed for the latrine. Who knows what he had eaten the day before!

Watching Lin Han's retreating figure, Lau Mingzhu's brow furrowed.

Soon enough, Lin Han emerged from the latrine. Though not entirely clean, the repeated wiping had made some difference. After all, in ancient times, there was neither toilet paper nor toothbrushes.

It's best to avoid dog bites, or else one could die from rabies...

Lin Han shivered involuntarily. Those modern folks who romanticized ancient life were complete fools!

"Can we talk now?"

Lau Mingzhu approached Lin Han with her sword in hand.

Lin Han observed his wife, bracing himself for the inevitable. His mouth twitched and his brow furrowed. "What do you want to discuss?"

"Firstly, you are my husband, but only in name. I hope yesterday's incident will never repeat itself. Otherwise, knocking you out will be the least of your worries."

Lau Mingzhu's voice was calm but left no room for doubt. Her expression seemed to serve as a warning to Lin Han that killing him would be as easy for her as slaughtering a chicken.

"Secondly..." Lau Mingzhu narrowed her eyes, "Where is your family from? What's your hometown?"

"I don't know..."

Lin Han sighed in resignation.

"You don't know?"

Lau Mingzhu was taken aback.

"I was brought here after being knocked out, and I've forgotten everything that happened to me before. I woke up on our wedding day, we got married, and you know the rest."

Lin Han gave a wry smile. His words clearly conveyed his frustration at being knocked out twice without cause. It was a stroke of bad luck to be knocked out by the same person twice, and the second time, to be beaten to death by the young woman before him. It was a sorry state of affairs, and he couldn't help but feel sorry for the original owner of this body.

It wasn't Lau Mingzhu's fault; Lin Han's body was simply too frail. The term 'frail' was an apt description of his current state.

He had amnesia?

Lau Mingzhu paused for a moment.

Knocking someone out was one thing, but causing them to lose their memory was quite another!

It was just a slight knock on the head. Could that really cause someone to lose their memories?

"Young Master, are you awake?"

Amid their conversation, a crisp voice suddenly rang out. Then, a young girl with the appearance of a maid happily bounced into the courtyard...
