Jinyu County was west of Mengyu County, east of the border with Chenyu County, and the south was bounded by Mt. Qu, and was adjacent to Zhang County's Ling Zhang County and Xi County's Tan Xi County.

Jinyu County was not as sparsely populated as Mengyu County; it had a large field to cultivate; it was also not as densely populated as Chenyu County
