C13 Goodbye Lin Xiaoxuan
At first, Faang Yu didn't think much of it. With so many people around, he certainly wasn't the only Faang there. Imagine how awkward it would be if he responded, only to find out they were calling for someone else.
It wasn't until someone stepped into his line of sight that he looked up. A young girl in a blue sundress, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, stood before him. She was sporting a pair of white sneakers that looked like they were purchased from his Myriad Spirit General Store.
"Lin Xiaoxuan? Are you here for Old Master Su's housewarming celebration too?" The girl was the same one who had bought sports shoes from his shop the day before. Faang Yu hadn't expected to run into her here, at a gathering known to attract East Wind City's business elite. Lin Xiaoxuan was young, and it was surprising to see her among such a crowd. She must have an impressive background, perhaps akin to Shen Tai's. But then again, without a notable family heritage, she wouldn't have been able to shop with such ease.
"Ah, I never thought I'd bump into Boss Faang here," Lin Xiaoxuan said with a lively spark in her eyes. She was intrigued by Faang Yu, especially by the comfortable shoes he sold that seemed perfect for the hot weather and came without any drawbacks. She didn't know how Faang Yu had managed to procure such magical footwear, but she knew that befriending him was a good move.
"Calling me 'Boss Faang' feels a bit formal. If you don't mind, just 'Faang Yu' will do," he replied with a smile. Standing before Lin Xiaoxuan, he hardly felt worthy of the title 'boss'—after all, his business was just getting off the ground.
Lin Xiaoxuan, who had intended to make friends with Faang Yu, saw no issue with this.
Despite being a wealthy heiress, Lin Xiaoxuan carried none of the pretense. She was as down-to-earth and easygoing as any other girl, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
You truly can't judge a book by its cover, nor can you measure the sea's depth.
It's a mistake to make sweeping judgments, and the same goes for people.
Faang Yu's previous encounters with the affluent had left him with the impression of arrogance and entitlement. But Lin Xiaoxuan exuded a sense of warmth and accessibility, a refreshing change that highlighted the differences between individuals.
It's not just among the wealthy; the same principles apply to everyone. Faang Yu has always believed that a person can possess pride, but should never harbor arrogance. Pride can drive progress, while arrogance leads to downfall.
Why do most successful entrepreneurs come from self-made, first-generation wealth? For one, they possess exceptional talents. Additionally, they have the pride that comes from believing in their own abilities. But why are there so few successful second-generation rich? It's because they've grown up with a silver spoon, accustomed to smoothing over problems with money and connections. Over time, this inevitably breeds arrogance. When they're wealthy, they become unbearably haughty. But once their fortune dwindles, they fall faster than anyone else, sometimes unable to cope with the drastic change and tragically choosing to end their lives.
Yet, among the second-generation rich, there are still those who stand out, whose exceptional resources propel them to even greater heights than their self-made counterparts.
As for what Lin Xiaoxuan will become, Faang Yu doesn't know. But for now, she's certainly someone worth knowing.
"I never would have guessed your invitation came directly from Old Master Su himself!" Lin Xiaoxuan exclaimed after a bit of conversation, impressed by the story behind Faang Yu's invite.
"Honestly, I knew Old Master Su was wealthy, but I had no idea the extent of it!" Faang Yu admitted with a wry smile. He had agreed to attend the housewarming party, thinking Old Master Su would be moving into a villa of sorts.
But now?
Sure, Old Master Su lived in a villa, but the sprawling estate surrounding it also belonged to him, which was a revelation to Faang Yu.
"Hehe, Old Master Su is something of a legend in East Wind City. At 18, he ventured out on his own, and by 23, he had founded a studio. Before hitting 30, he had already established Su's Group. It started as a small company, but in just over four decades, it has become a leading enterprise throughout East Province and the whole of Huaxia," Lin Xiaoxuan said, her knowledge of Old Master Su's accomplishments flowing effortlessly.
Faang Yu marveled at the man's story, truly a figure of legend. Take himself, for example, at 25 years old this year, without the golden opportunity of the System Shop, he'd be nothing more than a staffer in Middle Distance Group's Planning Department. Sure, he had business acumen, but it was limited. Owning his own company, much less expanding it to rival Su's Group, was a distant dream with slim chances.
Old Master Su's success wasn't just a testament to his abilities but also a product of his time.
As they say, the times make the hero.
During Old Master Su's era, at the dawn of economic reform, the country was ripe for rebuilding, with the government strongly backing business development and competition relatively mild. With his talent and boldness, Old Master Su's odds of success were significantly higher than most.
Today, it's a different story. Over the past few decades, Huaxia's economy has soared, with every industry boasting top talent and formidable enterprises. Starting a company in this climate, let alone growing it into a major group, is easily ten times harder than before.
"You're quite knowledgeable," Faang Yu commented with a smile.
"Hehe, well, my family does business with Su's Group, and I'm also close friends with Old Master Su's granddaughter, Su Ruoxue. Naturally, I'm well-informed!" Lin Xiaoxuan replied cheerfully, her offhand remark subtly revealing her impressive family background.
"What does your family do?" Faang Yu inquired, his curiosity piqued.
"We're in the hotel and catering industry," Lin Xiaoxuan answered candidly.
"That's a lucrative field," Faang Yu remarked. Food and shelter are essentials, and Lin Xiaoxuan's family had a stake in both. It was hard to believe their assets were anything but substantial.
"Oh, we're just modestly successful. Our business has a strong foothold in East Province but hasn't expanded beyond that yet," Lin Xiaoxuan humbly added.
Faang Yu was left speechless.
She really was the epitome of modesty!
"You didn't come to Clear Incense Garden solely for Old Master Su's housewarming, did you?" Lin Xiaoxuan's eyes sparkled with mischief as she gazed at Faang Yu, a slight smile playing on her lips. The subtle curve, paired with her delicate red lips, was undeniably alluring.
Faang Yu sliced off a piece of beef and popped it into his mouth, his face breaking into a smile as he asked, "Why would you say that?"
Lin Xiaoxuan took a leisurely sip of her Lafite and replied with a nonchalant air, "Just a hunch, a woman's intuition."
Faang Yu was torn between amusement and disbelief. Intuition? It seemed her intuition was uncannily on point.
"A woman's sixth sense, perhaps?" Faang Yu inquired with a chuckle.
"Does your question imply that my speculation was spot-on?" Lin Xiaoxuan flashed a pair of enchanting dimples, her gaze playfully sly.
"Smart women like you put a lot of pressure on us men!" Faang Yu said with a laugh.
Lin Xiaoxuan dismissed him with a scoff, "Only a worthless man would feel that way."
Faang Yu was left without a comeback.
Her words were piercingly sharp, and he was indeed at a loss for words.
