C15 The General Manager of Jiangnan.!
The sedan swiftly exited Hancheng and merged onto the expressway. Its speed was impressive, but thanks to its special license plate, it wasn't subject to the usual speed limits.
Inside, the ride was comfortable, maintaining a smoothness even on the more tumultuous stretches of road. The car's interior was spacious, too.
Yang Chen, Wild Wolf, and Wang Teng settled into the back of the black sedan without feeling cramped, with plenty of room to spare.
Yang Chen grabbed a chilled beverage from the mini-fridge and took generous gulps. Morning or not, it did nothing to diminish his enjoyment of the drink.
"Not bad," he commented, giving a slight nod of approval.
It was then that Wild Wolf chimed in. "Mr. Yang, now might be a good time to introduce you to our main person in charge of Jiangnan."
Interest sparked in Yang Chen's eyes as he set his drink aside. He was genuinely curious about the Jiangnan chief. After all, Jiangnan was a significant region in Hua Xia, and to be the head of No.98 there, one had to be exceptionally skilled. Such a person wouldn't lead the multitude of Ability Users in No.98 without considerable capability.
Yang Chen had encountered these Ability Users before; they were a proud and untamed lot. With the resurgence of spiritual energy granting them powers beyond the ordinary, who wouldn't swell with pride? Yet, to govern such individuals required an even mightier Ability User.
Wang Teng's expression grew serious. In Hancheng, he was a notable figure, even top-tier, but that status was inconsequential in the grand scheme of Jiangnan. Wild Wolf had only just managed to break into Jiangnan's elite circle.
But the chief of Jiangnan was different. This individual wasn't just a powerhouse in Hua Xia but ranked among the world's elite.
A Grandmaster!
Indeed, the chief of Jiangnan was none other than a Grandmaster, and not just any Grandmaster, but one who had long established himself at that level.
Grandmasters were a rarity, but in the vastness of Hua Xia, with its billion-plus population, several had emerged. This was part of why Hua Xia had risen to become one of the three superpowers post-spiritual energy storm. The renown of these Grandmasters had played a pivotal role in the nation's standing.
Jiangnan held its own within Hua Xia, home to several Grandmasters, with the chief among them being a preeminent force.
Clearing his throat, Wild Wolf's eyes blazed with fervor as he said, "Grandmaster Chen is the strongest in Jiangnan. Among Hua Xia's No.98, he's a top ten contender. Even other Grandmasters of his level would struggle against him unless they banded together."
Yang Chen's expression turned grave. To think that it would take several Grandmasters to challenge Grandmaster Chen!
Yang Chen, himself possessing the physique of a Grandmaster, was well aware of what that entailed. His own physical prowess could withstand any S-class entity, and that was without considering the disparities in spiritual energy and abilities. Even he might not be able to face a Grandmaster alone, yet Grandmaster Chen required a collective to match him. The thought was daunting.
And it meant that Yang Chen had to keep certain abilities under wraps. Abilities like... Devouring.
Unaware of Yang Chen's contemplation, Wild Wolf continued with a tone of reverence. "Grandmaster Chen, at only forty years old, has become a figure revered by all Ability Users in Jiangnan—a singular talent."
Forty years old! That detail caught Yang Chen's attention. Reaching the Grandmaster Level was no small feat, often requiring decades of dedication. Many Grandmasters were well into their twilight years by the time they ascended. But Grandmaster Chen was different, achieving this status at forty, a testament to his extraordinary genius.
Despite his limited knowledge of this world, Yang Chen was certain that most Grandmasters were of advanced age. Someone his age achieving that rank was virtually unheard of.
Even Wang Teng, scion of a wealthy family and privy to insider knowledge, had never heard of someone reaching the Grandmaster status so young.
Noticing Yang Chen's intrigue, Wild Wolf offered an explanation. "Grandmaster Chen previously concealed his age to avoid becoming a target for foreign powers. Now, as a leading figure, he no longer needs to hide."
Yang Chen nodded, a smile playing at his lips as he reclined in his seat. "I must admit, this Grandmaster Chen has piqued my interest."
The prospect of meeting such a legendary figure was tantalizing to Yang Chen. Eager anticipation filled him as the black sedan continued its rapid pace, quickly putting hundreds of kilometers between them and Hancheng.
If it were just any ordinary person's car speeding like that, they'd have been nabbed by the traffic cops long ago. But this case was different; this car bore the distinctive license plate of No.98. Even if it caught someone's eye, unless it was involved in a major accident, the police would generally turn a blind eye.
That's the privilege of being No.98!
In no time at all, as they exited the highway, Yang Chen could already see the towering skyscrapers rising up through the car window.
The grand city exuded a powerful presence, having been erected in this part of the world.
Yang Chen had always lived in the small city of Hancheng and had never laid eyes on a provincial capital like Jiangnan.
He hadn't even seen it on TV. His past life had been so uncertain that he never had the chance to learn about such places.
"Wow, it's huge!"
A hint of bewilderment flickered in Yang Chen's eyes; he truly had never seen a city like this before!
Yet, Wild Wolf and Wang Teng didn't catch Yang Chen's comment.
The black sedan swiftly made its way into the vast city. Amidst the relentless flow of traffic, the car's tail wings flared open, and a burst of blue flame propelled it forward.
To the amazement of onlookers, the black car took flight.
What was odd, though, was that the citizens of Jiangnan City seemed unfazed by the sight, showing no sign of surprise.
Yang Chen, however, was visibly astonished.
"This car can fly?"
"All of No.98's cars are specially modified. Sometimes, to save time and avoid queues, they're equipped with the ability to fly," Wild Wolf explained.
The black car sliced through the sky, coming to a halt in front of an imposing building emblazoned with large black letters: No.98!
No.98 in Hancheng was situated beneath a small mountain on the city's outskirts, as there wasn't enough space within the city to accommodate it.
Jiangnan City, on the other hand, as a provincial capital, had ample space to house the No.98 complex.
The car eased to a stop in the designated parking area for No.98, and Wild Wolf led Yang Chen and Wang Teng out of the vehicle.
Yang Chen was awestruck by the massive entrance.
The grand doors, crafted from glass, were guarded by two soldiers standing at attention. Yang Chen's senses told him that these guards were both D-level Ability Users!
In Hancheng, a D-level Ability User would have some renown.
Yet here, they were merely on guard duty!
Those entering the gates of No.98 were no less than D-level experts.
E-class Ability Users were a rarity in this place!
Most were D-class and E-class experts.
There were B-class Ability Users too, but they were fewer in number compared to the other two levels.
Nevertheless, Yang Chen was taken aback by this revelation.
Back in Hancheng, meeting even one Ability User was a struggle, despite it being tied to No.98's administration.
"Come on," Wild Wolf beckoned to Yang Chen, a smile on his face.
He then led Yang Chen and Wang Teng straight into the No.98 building.
As they stepped inside, the environment transformed. An array of high-tech gadgets came into view, and fluorescent screens displayed various missions for Ability Users. At the center of the ground floor, a bleary-eyed old man sat in a daze.
Yet, the Ability Users passing by all cast respectful glances his way.
Wild Wolf approached the old man with Yang Chen and Wang Teng in tow, but before he could introduce them, a mocking voice echoed in their ears.
"Well, well, if it isn't our A-level Ability User, Wild Wolf?"
