C8 What a Waste of Talent!

Zhao Deyi ultimately couldn't bring himself to return, his pride wounded.

Xu Xin was incessantly complaining nearby, her eyes fixed on Lin Yuan with a venomous stare.

The chance to forge ties with Zhao's Group had slipped through their fingers. Worse still, Zhao Deyi was bound to harbor resentment towards them. Whether he'd seek retribution against Ruyi Group was anyone's guess.

Xu Xin firmly believed Bai Shuang should have partnered with Zhao Deyi for the company's benefit. To her, Lin Yuan was nothing but dead weight.

"Our reputation will take a hit if word of today's incident gets out. We'll be labeled as ingrates, especially since Young Master Zhao resolved that issue with Zhang for us," she lamented.

Lin Yuan, in the midst of a drink, nearly choked on his wine at her words.

"Do you have any proof besides Zhao Deyi's baseless claims? Why are you so convinced he's behind this?" he challenged.

"If not Zhao Deyi, then who? You?" Xu Xin retorted, not even bothering to look up.

She'd rather die than believe such a loser could be responsible.

"Enough. Let's put an end to today's drama and head back," Bai Shuang declared, a crease of concern on her brow.

"Lin Yuan, come with me."

At his wife's summons, Lin Yuan promptly set aside his valuable red wine and cheerfully joined her.

The casually abandoned bottle of pricey wine caught Bai Shuang's eye, further souring her opinion of him as a spendthrift.

"Have you spent time in the Farsi Empire before? You seem quite knowledgeable about red wine," Bai Shuang couldn't resist asking, her curiosity piqued.

"And this Romanee-Conti—where did you get it? You shouldn't be able to afford such a luxury."

"I did spend some time in the Farsi Empire," Lin Yuan replied succinctly. "A friend there gifted me the bottle. If you're fond of it, I can request a few more from them."

He kept his response brief, omitting the details of his stay in the Farsi Empire and the fact that his generous friend was none other than a princess of the Farsi royal family. Some things were better left unsaid.

Bai Shuang lifted her head, lost in thought.

"You're quite fortunate. You've mentioned how the Farsi Empire's nobility are known for their romanticism, valuing connections over status. It's a blessing to have made such a friend. Just be careful not to exploit your friendship by asking for too much.

This wine is incredibly valuable; you can't just accept such a gift without giving something in return. I'll set you up with a job and deduct the cost from your monthly salary, then I'll help you repay your friend."

Lin Yuan nearly choked on his own frustration. His wife was being excessively prudent.

He used to treat this wine like water, and many nobles back there couldn't even find a way to gift him a bottle. Was he now expected to pay them for it?

But Bai Shuang didn't give Lin Yuan the chance to argue. She had already made up her mind.

"Given that you've spent time in the Farsi Empire and mingled with its nobility, it's fortuitous that our company is about to engage in a venture requiring collaboration with a Farsi company. You'll be in charge of hosting them.

If you handle this well, you could earn a commission of two to three million. I won't shortchange you one bit."

Lin Yuan stood frozen, unsure of how to respond. Truth be told, he was reluctant to take on the task.

He was the War God, the founder of the War God Shrine, and now he was being asked to play the role of a salesperson, specifically to play host. If word got out, he'd never live it down among his peers.

"Why the silence? If you're capable, you should be making your own money. Are you content being a kept man?"

Bai Shuang's gaze bore into Lin Yuan as he remained mute, her displeasure evident.

"I'm not opposed to making money. It's just that personally handling such trivial matters seems beneath me."

Lin Yuan's response was candid.

Bai Shuang shook with anger.

She must have been blind. He was useless, and yet she had thought to uncover some hidden potential in him.

"Well, if that's how you feel, then so be it. I won't push you. I'll hand this task over to the new head of the Sales Department."

Upon hearing this, Lin Yuan stepped forward decisively.

"I've just realized that I might actually be well-suited for this task. I assure you, it will be handled excellently."

The new head of the Sales Department was a young, dashing figure with an impressive resume, a high-caliber elite back from abroad.

In theory, someone of his caliber wouldn't be expected at Bai Shuang's company, yet there he was. The reason wasn't too difficult to surmise.

Rumors were circulating that the fresh Sales Department director, once courted by Zhao's Group with a hefty 5 million annual salary, had opted for this company at a mere 1 million because he had his sights set on Bai Shuang and wished to be close to her.

Lin Yuan was busy plotting how to rid the company of this new director, to spare himself the irritation. He certainly wasn't about to hand over such a prime chance to shine.

"You said it yourself."

Bai Shuang nodded in agreement, though she too was reluctant to assign the new director to such a task; it was, after all, beneath his abilities.

They both got into the car.

On the way, Lin Yuan made a stop, claiming he needed to use the restroom. When he returned to the car, his expression was notably more grave.

Back at the office.

Having escorted Bai Shuang to the CEO's office, Lin Yuan paused at the stairwell corner.

He dialed a number on his phone.

"Check for any recent unusual activity or unfamiliar people coming and going."

He had sensed someone tailing them earlier, which was why he'd stopped under the guise of a bathroom break. Indeed, they were being followed, but the pursuer was vigilant and vanished quickly.

After dispatching the War God Shrine to investigate, Lin Yuan couldn't help but smirk.

They had arrived quite promptly.

Staying close to Bai Shuang was a strategic move, anticipating these very followers.

Once that was handled, Lin Yuan did as Bai Shuang had instructed, registering at the front desk and checking in with the Sales Department, where he was officially placed.

His primary duty was to welcome the imminent dignitaries from the Farsi Empire.

Beyond the commission Bai Shuang had promised, Lin Yuan also had a substantial base salary.

But to Lin Yuan, salary was inconsequential, merely numbers. If not for Bai Shuang's consideration, his status and identity would never have seen him working there.

Ignoring the whispers and disdainful glances from others, Lin Yuan brushed off the receptionist's contempt as he made his way through the office.

"Pretty boy, living off a woman."

That was the image Lin Yuan had been branded with at Ruyi Group. The notion of a man willingly becoming a live-in son-in-law was generally scorned.

And with Bai Shuang considered the dream woman of every male employee at the company, Lin Yuan's presence was anything but welcome. Wherever he went, he was met with sneers and sarcasm.

"Have you heard? Our Sales Department just got a new supervisor. He's a high-flying talent back from abroad, and incredibly good-looking."

"I know, right? I saw his photo; he's really handsome. It's beyond me why our CEO would choose Lin Yuan when she could have been with someone like him."

"Director Xu is such a distinguished young man. How could Lin Yuan even begin to compare?"

Lin Yuan had just stepped into the Sales Department when he overheard two female colleagues gossiping.

Without a word, he approached them, tapped on the desk to get their attention, and placed his employment form down.

"So, you're Lin Yuan? How do you have the nerve to show up here in our Sales Department?"
