Yang Rui had never before encountered a scene like the one before him, although he had come across it countless times in novels. The world seemed to have come to a standstill, or at least to be moving at a glacial pace, as he could still make out the electric arcs at the edge of the lightning inching along, slower than a snail. The orb of light in front of him didn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary, yet the absence of anything unusual was, in itself, the greatest oddity. Hadn't the appearance of the orb brought the world to a halt?

The orb was just as bewildered. It was a system, after all! A system! What had gone wrong? It had finally broken through the barrier to select a host, only to be spurned? It had sought out three different hosts, and each had rejected it upon hearing its name. Since when had hosts become so inflated with pride? The system had also depleted too much energy breaking through barriers and was on the verge of dissolving. But just as it was about to fade away, it was drawn here by a formidable psychic force. What on earth was happening?

Was some fool attempting to jump off a building?

Never mind, it thought. There was no time to waste. It needed to find a host quickly or face dissolution.

Yang Rui, for his part, was equally flabbergasted. It's not every day that a voice suddenly rings out in your mind: "Do you wish to bind yourself to the Strongest Strengthening System? Yes or no?"

What in the world?

The Strongest Strengthening System? The name suggested some sort of enhancement, likely something that boosted one's abilities, but what did 'strongest' entail? He was at a loss. Could it mean becoming a bald superhero with a single punch? Or achieving some sort of divine power? It sounded incredibly powerful.

[Come on, young man, you're quite the daydreamer, aren't you? But could you please decide whether to bind yourself to the system? Without your commitment, all your fantasies are just that. The system is on the brink of fading away, you know? Your indecision is draining what little energy I have left!]

As the system feared it was on its last legs, Yang Rui finally uttered, "Yes!"

That single word was music to the system's metaphorical ears. It was saved from oblivion! It was eternally grateful, relieved beyond words that it had not been scared to death.

However, the system seemed to have overlooked a well-known saying in this world: too much joy can lead to grief!

Before the system could revel in its triumph for even a second, it had exhausted all its energy maintaining the time freeze! In an instant, a bolt of lightning struck Yang Rui!

When Yang Rui regained consciousness, he found himself in a room filled with antique charm, lying weakly on a bed. Suddenly, a virtual interface materialized before his eyes, displaying the message: "Congratulations, you have successfully transmigrated!"

What? I've transmigrated?

More text appeared on the interface: "Congratulations, you are now the 1999th host. This system will assist you in becoming the strongest man!"

What the heck? The 1999th host? Yang Rui was baffled.

He expected the system to immediately clarify: "As the Strongest Strengthening System, all features are designed to enhance the host, with the goal of creating the most powerful man on Earth. However, since it only offers supplementary enhancements and cannot provide the most powerful attacks, it has been rejected by every host!"

What? That did sound pretty useless at first glance. No wonder it had been consistently discarded. But to have been abandoned 1999 times? Does that mean I'm the only host it has ever successfully bonded with?

The system sounded disheartened: "Yes, that's correct. You are the sole host who has successfully formed a bond with me."

"Every time the bonding fails, the system is sent back to the Initial Realm. This time, I was prepared to dissolve if I didn't succeed. After being rejected by three consecutive hosts, I encountered you. Honestly, you're the least qualified host I've ever chosen!"

Yang Rui was on the verge of losing it. What's this about being the least qualified? Did I embarrass you? Did I eat your food or spend your money? How are you any better than me? A system that nobody wanted even for free dares to act so high and mighty?

"What? Dormant state? Are you just going to abandon me here?" Yang Rui was starting to panic. Was his main support about to bite the dust?

The system was on the verge of lashing out in frustration. After a moment, it explained, "The system has depleted a significant amount of energy by forcibly transporting the host here and cannot sustain its current state. However, only some functions will be affected by the dormant state. Most features will remain accessible. Energy can be restored and the system revived through upgrades."

Okay, not all was lost. There was still hope. Yang Rui's anxiety began to subside.
